and doing shitloads of cardio and always running calorie deficits

once i had been lifting consistently for a while, i started having multiple protein shakes with milk instead of water, every day
and even though my calories taken in went up, i haven't really gained proportionately a lot of fat.
i have put on over 15 lbs since maybe May, but when i look in the mirror, i don't really look much fatter
(was at 14.5% bf before so i did put on some belly fat)
rather it seems like most of the weight is muscle.
i know you can't gain 15lbs of muscle in just 5 months of lifting even as a beginner etc
but i am doing everything right
1g protein / lb body weight per day
around maintenance or maintenance plus a few hundred per day
lifting weights 50-90 minutes every day, including squats, deadlifts, ohp or bench press in every workout
also doing 1-2 hours of cardio every day
so even though my calories consumed have risen considerably, because i work out like a mofo,
it mostly seems that all the increased calories are going into muscle.
it's very enjoyable
so yeah i think there's truth to increasing overall caloric intake
IF you're working out
and IF you're not going insanely over your maintenance
THEN at least, in MY experience, most of that surplus will go where you want it - muscle.
now think of the opposite, if i continued to maintain deficits.
sure i would stay the same weight.
but i would not be gaining all this muscle.
putting on weight is not bad if it's mostly muscle.
