If you cut at a 1000kcal deficit you would be done in 2,5 months. Yeah you will lose a little bit more muscle that way but you save 7,5 months. Muscle memory is a hell of a thing, the extra muscle you will lose eating at 1000kcal deficit vs 250kcal deficit will be made back tenfold during those 7,5 months you have time to put on muscle. You will get your lifts back after the cut in like 4-6 weeks. Then you have an extra half a year on top of that.
Im a huge advocate of suicide cutting. Taking it slowly makes only sense if you are doing mini-cuts and you have like 1-2kg of fat to lose to get ready for a vacation or something like that.
I think there's a lot of merit to short-term psmf, microcuts minicuts whatever you want to call them. the body will adapt to long-term deficits by reducing metabolism. I think a lot of that can be mitigated by eating at maintenance with periods of intense cutting.

I just completed a 4-day fast. Remember that most food you eat is ~75% water so even if you drink a normal amount of water you might not be fully hydrated. If in doubt, more is always better than less. Also be careful what you refeed with. I ate a giant cheesesteak sub last night and I've been having horrible liquid diarrhea shits all morning.
