I've been posting on this forum for 10 years and I've noticed a very big difference in how millenials and zoomers approach nutrition.

Millenials were very big on iifym. Anything went so long as caloric and macronutrient needs were met. There was a very wide gradient between anons who ate clean and anons who lived off of poptarts and protein shakes. Admittedly most were closer to the latter.

Nowadays zoomers care much more about nutrient density and food quality, but can't even agree about whether counting calories works. Instead of having a gradient of eating habits, there are dozens of dietary tribes like keto, carnivore, Peatism, The vertical diet, etc and zoomers will kill to defend these tribes.

What happened? Which mindset is better?

Zoomies just get on the hype train of what they see on social media. In reality they eat what mommy makes them

zoomers love identifying themselves with labels. they have to attach themselves to one or two things and make it their whole personality

more like zoomies are mentally deranged hyper materalistic rats trying to figure out why either maximizing everything in their lives or outright giving up within the metrics of culturally bankrupt post capitalism isn't helping them get off the five different depression meds they are on

Zoomers are autistic and need everything explicitly described and outlined in extreme detail. They cannot handle "iifym". That is not descriptive enough. If you put them in a kitchen and said "just make a meal that fits your macros" they would not know what to do. They need step by step instructions.

Why did milennials end up like the boomers they despise?; It's ironic how you've fallen for the same trap of hating the younger generation after you for reasons that aren't their fault. That is exactly how boomers acted with you lot.

The cycle of hatred will be stopped by Gen Z because we're just morally superior than the previous batch. We're a more empathetic, more kind, smarter, less prejudice, and are more open-minded generation than the previous failed batch. We're more based than boomers and millenials ITT combined tenfold.

The internet happened. For whatever reason there were far less niche fitness/nutrition fads going on when millennials were early 20s, probably because it was far more difficult for the average moron to monetize some schizo fitness theory. The first time someone told me they wanted to be a YouTuber I thought it was the most fricking moronic thing I’d ever heard anyone say because A.I was before most people had any idea the average moron could make money on social media B.it was seen as incredibly lame to have a YouTube channel. So you didn’t have thousands of fricking moronic dickheads telling you that eating keto is the only path for humanity or if you work out for more than 45 minutes you’re an idiot. On the flipside a lot of useful information likeresearch papers on microneedling for hair loss is far easier to come across these days.

Also been here for more then 10 years. This is not the impression that i have, my impression of the IIFYM is that most of that food was supposed to be clean, healthy, nutrient dense food, but if you added some shit here and there it was not a big deal as long as you stuck to your caloric goal, got your proteins, and quality nutrition overall.

A fad, trend, or craze is any form of collective behavior that develops within a culture, a generation or social group in which a group of people enthusiastically follow an impulse for a short time period.

Marketing is the process of identifying customers and "creating, communicating, delivering, and exchanging" goods and services for the satisfaction and retention of those customers. It is one of the primary components of business management and commerce.

We're omnivores. We're perfectly capable of performing optimally on a wide range of diets.

Remember, when planning your diet and nutrition always consult a professional before making any drastic changes. Ensure that 50-75% of your protein intake consists of insects to ensure you are hitting your caloric needs.

Then you did it wrong. If you had to stop eating at noon because you were above your calories then it didn't fit your macros. Iifym means it doesn't matter what you eat as long as you adhere to total amount of cal/protein/fat/carbs youre allowed for the day. You did an I'm gonna eat whatever the frick I want with no real plan and stop at a certain calorie amount. Iifym requires you to have some sort of planning involved even if the type of food you eat each day varies

    IIFYM, of course
How can you defend keto/carnivore/vegan extremists when we're omnivorous and thrive eating every living thing in front of us?
We simply have to eat anything and everything as long as we
    >hit protein goals
    >hit a minimum of fat for health purposes
    >adjust carbs balance (simple/complex) and amount based on current goal
    It's that simple

Reminder that virtually all fruit and vegetables you can buy at the store didn't exist just two hundred years ago, and that none of the vegetables or grains that people eat existed until humanity hybridized them into existence. Oh, and fruit only grew for one or two months in the wild. Humans have only been eating potatoes for less than three hundred years. Before agriculture and selective breeding, it was literally impossible to eat a non-marginal amount of carbohydrates, let alone live off them.

It's pretty simple. Zoomers have an ultra competitive culture due to social media so the iifym idea isn't enough, millennials have more of a "it's good enough" approach especially since as a generation millennials find actually trying "embarrassing" or shameful. Zoomer mentality is I HAVE TO BE THE BEST. You can see this in all spaces not just fitness. Look at videogames or sports and such

Kind of right, kind of wrong. The "Millenial" mentality was "I want to get big fast" and steroids were largely looked down on, especially if you were young and just doing it for looks so people pushed GOMAD and dirty bulk/cut routines as standard. Now the Zoomer mentality is all about looking fit mainly by using gear and seeing large up front gains while having absolutely no idea what you are actually doing and fricking yourself up in the long run.

      >it assumes metabolism is always satisfactory and constant
No, it doesn't even assume the existence of metabolism. Instead, it treats the human body as a combustion engine, where everything that is eaten is absorbed to the same degree that it would liberate energy when burned. They literally burn food in a bomb calorimeter.

Much like most of life, it's a healthy mix of the two. Meeting macros and calories is something that always needs to be strived for, but just shoving anything in is going to more harm than good obviously. It's really up to the individual to research and experiment what works for them. Funnily enough, same goes for a workout plan.

I've been on and off around here for 13 years and I think you're a bit mixed up here
all of those dietary tribes you mention were carved out from millennial/Gen X niches who have now crystallized their in-group lore and are now enthralling zoomer foot soldiers to invade the territory of enemy tribes. The internet had not been populated with memetic diet tribes 13 years ago so the millennials were making it up on the fly with the occasional Gen Xer in a much less toxic and dense environment
