Ive looked at all the gyms in my area and they all have these annoying 24 month contracts that everyone is required to sign. Ive thought about just buying a bench and a set of free weights so I can workout in my garage. Am I moronic or is this the better path to take?

Try the Y.
But yeah, adjustable dumbbells (or loadable dumbbell handles + weight) is fine.
okay so it seems that Im not totally moronic for considering investing in a home setup
none of them were like this pre lockdown shit is so fricking annoying
I took the home gym pill at the start of the pandemic because everything was closed. Over time I've accumulated a pretty good collection of gear that I otherwise would have spent on gym fees, so it worked out pretty well for me.
I have a squat rack, olympic bar + 285 lbs of plates, some adjustable dumbbells, and a rowing machine. I can pretty much cover any routine I want with that gear. Having a home gym makes sticking to a routine and chasing gains a TON easier for me, since I never had an excuse to miss a workout.
You know how I know you're a DYEL? 285 lbs of plates is all you own. Sad.
It's because the only thing that matters is the pump. Its the best indicator that you did enough work for that muscle to be stimulated to grow. All other methods are secondary to getting a great pump
do you want to make it even clearer that you are a DYEL?
Lol Nah

you stole this one recently, didnt you?
the guy is literally in a gym lockerroom too
>24 months
Jesus why do gyms act like moms with new borns
>here’s your 36 week old contract
sounds less intimidating to normies saying
>so your contract is 36 weeks
as opposed
>so your contract is a total of 3 years
36 weeks isnt 3 years moron
156 weeks
with pushups, pullups, sissy squats, nordic hamstring curls and running (periodization with distances and speed lol, jumping can also be high% work) you can get stronger than most gays on plg.
If you squat <4x bodyweight sissy squats can grow you. If you bench <2x bodyweight pseudo pushups and progressing to a planche pushup can get you stronger, sprinting and nordic hamstring curls can get you infinitely strong.
I would advise buying a weighted belt for sissy squats and pullups tho.
The only thing you cant normally train without the gym is your spinal erectors, which is kind of whatever since if you are not in a gyn you probably dont want to deadlift or squat anyways.
And, to be quite honest, if you are autistic enough and have enough control over yoir body you can train your spinal erectors by bracing them against your abdominals for varying periods of time and intensity, i have never used this for growth because when i was injured it would pressure my injured sciatic nerve and when i was healed it would be worse than just deadlifting but i have gotten sore from it just fricking around in bed while scrolling 4chong.
>buying a weighted belt for sissy squats
How does this work?
you hold yourself upright with your arms on a doorframe, wear the chain tight and basically do sissys like an L.
Not having a smith machine is miserable, its either that or they are just too light since if you lay back most of your weight will be resting on your hamstrings.
It is the better path to take. Squat rack with a pull up bar, barbell, plates, a pair of olympic dumbbells and a bench and you're set.
I was thinking of starting with just a bench and adjustable free weights for the first year or so to see if I can actually achieve something with the set-up since pewdiepie did that and he looked pretty cut
With adjustable dumbbells, most can't go higher than 50 lbs. Not ideal for something like bench press. Also they tend to lack the fine weight increments that you'd need to progress with something like lateral raises. And you need those finer increments if you're going to progress with dumbbells. Olympic dumbbells+plates are the better choice for this.
I have a spinlock set like pic related that goes to 100lbs per handle (so 200 lbs total combined). I was eventually able to find a couple 1.25 lbs plates for them too which was a bit tricky because they're 1.15 inches in diameter (~3cm) instead of 1 inch (2.54 cm). They work great, they're durable you get used to changing the plates pretty quickly unless you're really lazy. I always recommend them, I'm very glad I bought them. The only problem is that COVID fricked up the price of everything fitness related, I got mine for $1/lb, good luck finding that kind of is price now.
btw the chain was referring to in the OP is anytime fitness
I bet you they offer regular yearly memberships if you talk the talk, they always try to pull some crap. One I used to go to when I ended my membership after a year they said I had to show the email I got when I first signed up as it had my membership ending details !?! total bullshit thankfully I still had it. My brother-in-law also ended his but he didn't have the email so he just blocked the monthly withdrawal through his bank app.
Imagine paying to enter what effectively is a commons. Comericalcucks are dumb as hell. Not only is it more costly long term but you have to put up with other people and their stupidity. Until gyms start having everyone make appointments so there isn't overcrowding then it's litterally you paying to subjecting yourself. When you can just have a gym ar home.
I don't believe you that all gyms only offer 24 month contracts. You are either moronic or or only looking at the cheapest monthly option or something. No Planet Fitness near you (don't fall for the memes here).
Depends on if you want the gym to also be a social thing. To pick up in or whatever.
If not then home gym is the way to go, and it's not like the equipment depreciates much in value if you change your mind later.
go to your fricking rec center you dolt
