They're a cost effective alternative to salmon for most people. They usually very cheap too. You live in the middle of the mountains or something?

They cost $2 where I live. I live in the city. I can buy 5 cans for $10 but I would eat a can very fast. They seem like an expensive snack?
So you use them as the main protein for a meal?

The biggest benefit is from the omega 3s in addition to the cheap protein. That's the main reason to eat salmon too. Plus deenz have very low mercury content so it's fine to eat it often. When I was really tight on my grocery budget I'd eat a can of tomato and herb deenz and a bean salad 3 times per week. 35g of protein and a ton of micros and healthy stuff for like $1.50 for the meal back then

And what happens to those omega 3s when they're cooked?

Some are oxidized, most are just fine. Especially with the tomato sauce acting as a buffer between the heat and the deenz

Wild caught sockeye salmon is $10.50/lb, $2.56 per 4oz serving. Your average can of deenz is the same price and has half the protein.

Not even government agencies would consider 110 gram of salmon a serving? I think its 140 gram at least

In some cases we have per serving too but we always have per 100g unless it's a liquid then sometimes it's per 100ml which is annoying. Anyway you're a dumb country.

I have local caught whole sardines which I pan fry with a side of salad with olive oil. You can even eat the heads, it's all good for you. But tinned is good too, just avoid the mystery oil ones and go for spring water.
