Just tried a gym for the first time in 15 years. There is no way I'll ever sign up to a gym from what I experienced:
- You're told to wipe down the machines/benches etc before and after every use. What a pain
- Otherwise you need a towel with you (I forgot mine so I used wipes they had)
- Was anxious about using the machines and not knowing when people were fully done with them
- Anxious a bit about having to leave my bag in the stand thing. Annoying/weird when at home I just leave my stuff sprawled around (water, paper for writing down lifts/routine information, smartphone for music/timer, bluetooth headphones)
- I just sat at the machines while I was resting between sets (1 min on stopwatch app, at home I prefer to do 2-3 mins depending on the exercise)
- Lebs everywhere, though that is obviously a gym selection problem. Actually I wanted to try a gym to see what the fitness/gym community was like, I like being social in the other sports I've done (really just surfing)
- To top it all off, it was going to cost about $20 per week PLUS the $90 join fee and $90 card fee. Very expensive. So its like $100 per month plus $180.

I will stick to what I have at home - my free weights, dumbells, chin up/dip station and exercise bike. Its so much easier to lift at home, the only real difference being half my gym is outside (deadlift platform, barbell and squat rack) and half inside (dumbells and exercise bike) and I have to pay attention to climate control (can't lift when too hot or too cold, though I have a fan for when the weather is more than mild).

Though I might go running around a nearby park if its safe enough.

The main reason I wanted to try a gym is to use the machines for a different exercise selection. Actually the machines were kind of weird to use. Free weights feel so much more natural.

It sounds like you live in australia and it never gets too cold to lift outside lifting in 40c heat outdoors is pretty terrible though

Yeah Australia. Lifting under 10-12c or over 20, 23-25c generally, sucks. The barbell is cold or hot.

I lift outside all winter lifting from 4-12 degrees is my favourite because the cold fresh air lets me breathe better, just wear a jumper first two exercises and use dencorub to warm up joints for heavy squats

I was lifting indoors a bit in the winter mornings but eventually got tired of it and switched to an indoors-only routine.

You sound like an insufferable c**t.

          I'm quite nice

thanks for the update bro any blacks at your gym?

Nope but the gym was literally 90%+ Leb lol. One hot girl I think she was Leb too but idk, you can't quite tell with some like Armenians etc.

offer your local gym to come in at 3 am and mop the floors in exchange for 90 minutes of gym time when it's closed.

    >goes to an overpriced gym (premium gyms here are 35€/month also what third world country has you paying weekly lmao)
    >focuses 80% on being socially awkward, 20% on lifting weights
    >"sitting on machines" instead of active rest
    >so insecure he cuts down rest time
    >spends most of his time seething about other people there and blogs about them on 4chins
Don't worry I'm pretty sure you're making the right choice by staying at home lmao

    >You're told to wipe down the machines/benches etc before and after every use. What a pain
Every gym says this, it's rarely enforced unless you go to a nazi gym or you're sweating buckers. Just be considerate and give yours a quick wipe if you've left sweat.

    >Otherwise you need a towel with you (I forgot mine so I used wipes they had)
Yes so you can wipe down your sweat you moron. Just carry a small one, they're not going to stand there forcing you to use it all the time.

    >Was anxious about using the machines and not knowing when people were fully done with them
Most people carry a towel, water bottle or phone at the gym and leave these at the machine if they're still using them. If its clear just use it, if they tell you they're still using it it's not a big deal.

    >Anxious a bit about having to leave my bag in the stand thing. Annoying/weird when at home I just leave my stuff sprawled around (water, paper for writing down lifts/routine information, smartphone for music/timer, bluetooth headphones)
Every gym I've ever used has lockers. If this one doesn't, try a different gym or leave your shit in your car.

    >I just sat at the machines while I was resting between sets (1 min on stopwatch app, at home I prefer to do 2-3 mins depending on the exercise)
And? 2-3 minutes is fine if you want. Just don't take longer than 5 minutes per set in a busy gym unless you're ok with people working in with you.

    >Lebs everywhere, though that is obviously a gym selection problem. Actually I wanted to try a gym to see what the fitness/gym community was like,
You're clearly aussie. Lebs are harmless at the gym, if you're that bothered by it there's plenty of gyms that aren't full of lebs. Try not living in a leb suburb for a start.

    > To top it all off, it was going to cost about $20 per week PLUS the $90 join fee
That's like $1,100aud a year. You probably spend this on video games already.

why do you guys say leb? did australia get a bunch of lebonese in the past?

      Anonymous

      Yes.

Post WW2 Australia got a bunch of euro migrants. Mainly Lebs and Wogs (italians, greeks and other Mediterranean races. Not a term for blacks here like the UK).

Nowadays its chinese, indian and sudanese migrants instead.

The best gyms if you hate crowds are "health clubs" where it's rich moms swimming and playing tennis
Always has a big weight room that's mostly untouched

That towel rule is a load of shit though, one time I forgot my towel and was conscious I had to clean each bench/machine with wipes when I was done.

Next thing you know one of the gym co-owners is already in there working out with no towel moving from machine to machine like he owns the place. (He literally owns the place)

So after seeing that idgaf when I forget my towel anymore, unless im sweating buckets on some cardio machine ill give it a wipe down when im done but apart from that, autistic cleaning is not required.

You have two pathways now; either you continue the b***h-made home routine with mild gains because you're afraid and anxious path or you take the uncomfortable gym path and craft your body to its fullest potential while also beating your anxiety and your pathetic excuses.

Nah I'll keep my money and push for gains at home. I'm around the natty limit anyway. Been lifting 13 years

Need to think of a back exercise with dumbells or a chin up station that targets the mid back better. I was looking forward to using the seated row machine thing.
