Keto

We need a new word for people who think and claim they're doing keto diet, but are actually eating 55% protein, 35% fat and 10% carbs.
Keto is supposed to be 80% fat, 15% protein and 5% carbs.
Of course, most aren't following the actual keto diet, as it's almost impossible, and are eating a lof of protein, with some fat and a little bit of carbs.
How should this diet be called?

Are you dumb? As long as you're getting into ketosis you're doing keto. It doesn't matter what your macros are. If you're eating low enough carbs that your body is going into ketosis, you are doing keto. Man zoomers really are stupid.

I would kill myself if I were a ketolard. I'd open up reddit and put a gun to my temple while looking at the mirror. I would wish upon a reddit star that my hair grew back before blowing my redditor fatherless keto brains everywhere.

Keto is gay. Not even once. It causes schizophrenia.

This is basically what I do and I never claimed to be on keto. I just find that it’s impossible to be lean when I eat carbs and when I don’t eat carbs it’s impossible to not be lean.
But for some reason people ape out at the the possibility that not eating bread and pasta all the time might actually be a good way to get shredded

You are just ignorant about how the body works and clining to anecdotes. In the induced ketosis cycle, you can literally ignore most empty calorie metrics so long as you have spare body fat (because it is used directly for energy). So stuff like empty carbs (grain, oats, rice, bread) are not even needed. Any excess calories you burn over your tdee, you use your fat storage instead.

Keto is the be all end all for weight loss, so long as you know how to take advantage of it.

it should remain keto, people should just learn the facts and not bastardize everything, the rest low carb diets should just be called low carb diets or carnivore diets if you only eat meat

Macros are only a guideline or archetye for different levels of sustained blood ketones(which you can measure using test strips). If you are reducing carb consumption by allot, you will be in ketosis regardless of macros 90% of the time.

Even the lower protein consumption is a meme. Because most people will not eat enough protein to elicit the bodies response to convert the excess to glucose. Even if they do(eat well over what their body needs regularly for gains, say 10g over your ideal surplus for muscle growth.), the process is inefficient and the glucose gets processed quickly. So the disruptions are minimal.

How do you eat 80% fat? Just butter and olive oil? Doesn't seem sustainable. Also

Honestly you don't need to up fat consumption to maintain high levels of keto. It's enough to simply forgo all carbs and let the body do its job. The real exception being if you are consuming a moderate amount of carbs in one meal(moderate for keto). So a bit of extra fat there is insurance against any disruptions of ketosis cycle.

just eating food with equal amounts of fat and protein already gets you to 70%, e.g. non-lean beef with 20g fat and 20g protein per 100g.

Losing weight is part of fitness. This is the fitness board, not the weightlifting board. Just because most discussions are predominantly about lifting doesn't exclude other aspects of fitness.

You don't need to eat high fat to enter keto.
You're in keto every morning or after fasting for about a day.

      Anonymous

Not necessarily, I would say it is lower level keto(because ketones can be present). But your glycogen stores will still be intact. Without fasting for days or dedicated keto, you will still be dipping into them for glucose.

Percentage of calories isn't useful. If you're natty you can only eat about 80-100g of protein per day. Trying to eat more isn't good for you, 150g+ only works if you're increasing your metabolism tenfold with roids.

Mate, you can safely eat up to about 400 g of protein per day. 200 g or less is never gonna be an issue if you have two functional kidneys.
