Peat was pro vitamin A from animal sources, like liver every couple of weeks or so.
Basically there is a completely unrelated idea that an engineer named Grant Generaux came up with about all vitamin A being inherently toxic at any dose, and not really a vitamin. The idea was also promoted by another guy named Garett Smith along with other ideas (anti-fructose, anti-vitamin D, etc.). Someone on RPF started a thread about it and it got a lot of discussion. The owner of the forum became convinced by it but mostly still followed Peat until recently when he said Peat was wrong about fructose/sugar/fruit too and basically he doesn't follow Peat at all now.

the theory is that all vitamin A is poison for the liver and you're only allowed to eat muscle meat and rice or some shit

My bad.. reading the forum is banned now except for paying members. The forum owner, Charlie, went full speed ahead into this "vitamin A is toxic" theory pushed by other gurus like Garrett Smith and Grant Generaux. He finally started adapting their other beliefs including fructose being poison and all fruit being bad. When people question why the head of the Ray Peat Forum disagrees with Ray Peat on everything, he bans them.

This whole Vitamin A discussion could be fixed by simply making a difference between beta-carotene (bad) and retinol (good).
Yeah and that's what Peat did. The vitamin A = toxin gurus disagree, they think it's all bad. They don't even think it's a vitamin.
Beta-carotene has the same toxic breakdown pathway as retinol does.
But beta-carotene takes a few months to be broken down into retinoids, so there is delayed toxicity, whereas retinol is imediately bound into the liver, provided that the liver hasn't reached it's storage capacity.
So they are actually equally damaging, just the plant form of vitamin A has delayed toxicity.
I would love to know how a diet looks like that avoids Vitamin A, especially retinol. Your gut feeling should tell you there is something wrong with this theory.
I think they basically just eat red muscle meat, beans, and rice. Maybe a handful of cult-approved fruits and vegetables.

I liked Ray Peat's work but when he died and everyone was collectively trying to hide his cause of death it really soured everything. It reminded me of how ketolards hide the fact Atkins died 260lbs obese with tons of heart problems on his official medical report.

Yeah it's not really safe. I mean it is if you dose it right but if you frick up it can kill you. Some roiders use it though. T3 and aspirin do the same thing (mitochondrial uncoupling) but are much safer.

Aspirin mimics it in incredibly high doses - upwards of 3g. Taking that high of a dose regularly is infeasible because of the other effects aspirin has; you wouldn't be able to do weight training on that high of a dose, whereas a comparable dose of DNP from the perspective of uncoupling, you would, and safely at that.
