Become a SV software engineer, retire at 35, lift until you die.

      Just do what I did.

Barely scrape through college with a 2.1 GPA and having to petition the dean not to kick you out of the university then working thankless accounting jobs for a few years hating life and eventually getting fired by your abusive boss for reasons never fully explained then being unemployed for seven months during which you literally learn to code and land a cushy WFH job as a BI engineer for a cool six figures doing <30 minutes of actual work per day and being able to lift whenever the frick you want.

I ended up majoring in accounting because I dropped out of school at one point and when I returned I felt pressured to finish a degree as quickly as possible and accounting required the fewest amount of credit hours. I never had a passion for it, it was always just a job to me. My advice is to major in something that actually interests you.

      [...]
It was a combination of luck and skill. I interviewed a lot while I was unemployed and got really good at discerning what the interviewers were looking for in a candidate. I learned SQL and Python well enough while being unemployed to bullshit my way into a job offer and only became somewhat proficient at them after I was hired and had to use them every day.

Can't speak for IT but I was in your shoes not too long ago. I couldn't code for shit but when you stare at it long enough eventually it begins to make sense.

My advice is to start with something relatively easy like SQL since all you're doing is arranging data. I also benefited a lot from studying code that my coworkers wrote line by line and understanding what each command was doing.

Programmer bros how do you get past the sheer cringiness of working within an organizational culture?
I got my first serious job as a Salesforce Developer at a big corporation during the pandemy and while WFH was somewhat chill despite the endless shitty meetings and moronic superiors acting fake friendly, it got significantly worse when it was requested to come to the office as well, like people were so soul less it was depressing af

You're supposed to make friends anon. 99% of people want to let their corporate guard down but can't out of fear.

Cussing is my go to. If I'm working with someone and I get the feeling we're on the same page, I'll blatantly swear at something. Like if me and another dev are working on some bug that's really frustrating, I'll just drop a fat "what the frick". If they swear later on too, you're in. But take baby steps.

What are your thoughts on working with salesforce overall?

It's a new and very hype technology and you will most likely encounter many old farts who will seethe at it and try to bring you down for working with it(kinda like how barbell gays try to bring down people who use cables and machines). You have to either ignore them or basically become a Salesforce shill in order to persevere. Also need to know the platform inside out by passing the starting certifications(administrator and platform app builder) if you're serious about working with Salesforce.

You can, especially at first, but as you progress you will need to have your theoretical knowledge on par with your practical knowledge otherwise you will always find yourself asking your colleagues for help and become a liability to the firm

this keeps me up at night. Im still in school. Did a 8 month internship and just started working part time 2 weeks ago. Whats the time frame for that? I feel like i ask a lot of questions, i do work on user stories and my boss has said im productive but i feel so fricking useless.

                >boss has said im productive but i feel so fricking useless.
The thing with bosses is that they give extremly unnuanced feedback and you won't know you've fricked up until it's too late.

What I'd do is spam lower managers or senior colleagues you work directly with for regular feedbacks so you know whether you're doing something wrong. This also clears you of any accusations that you weren't proactive.

Also be adamant about what you want to do and your needs so you don't end up being tossed around in projects that use technologies which you have limited knowledge or desire in working with.

          >major in something that actually interests you.
          absolute ass recommendation unless
          >you are really REALLY passionate about it
          >what interests you leads to an actual useful career like programming, STEM, etc
the fatal mistake many college students make when considering what to major in is that they listen to highly successful people give that same advice thinking "oh well I sort of like psychology, not enough to read about it all the time or devote my life to it, but its pretty interesting compared to my calculus class :^)" because they forgot that that highly successful person was really, really interested in finance or just building a business for its own sake

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A NEAR CONSTANT OBSESSION IN THAT SUBJECT, THEN SWITCH TO WHATEVER YOU THINK YOU CAN DO FOR THE MOST MONEY THATS TOLERABLE. I would strongly recommend anything thats math heavy/very practical (no a generic business degree is not practical, albeit it is better than just a bachelors in english or whatever)
          >but you'll be miserable
unless you have some outstanding talent (such as being good at design, or being incredibly attractive or good at math) or obsession you are gonna be plagued by FOMO no matter what you do since you're gonna be forced to do something you don't care about for 8 hours a day minimum. Might as well get paid a comfortable amount at whatever stress level you can tolerate.
I personally know several people from wealthy (upper middle to middle class) families who got degrees in something like history or drama and are under an unreal amount of money stress

The US is definitely in a state of decline, but we're still decades away from seeing any of the real effects. As cliché of a point this is to make, the parallels between the decline of the US and the decline of the Roman empire (which obviously America's system of government was based on) are staggering. Getting involved in meaningless wars, losing said meaningless wars, an irreparable ideological divide between east and west, a rising power to the east, etc.

Again, it's going to take decades to see any sort of tangible impact the decline will have on American society. The people who act like there's going to be another civil war in the next 10 or 20 years in America are completely delusional. Americans are too content with their modern comfort to fight for anything, especially when it means potentially sacrificing that comfort. It's not until an entire generation of Americans have grown up truly impoverished, without knowing said comfort, that you'll start to see even the first stirrings of war. You can bet your ass the US government knows this and will do everything in their power to keep the masses content.

        >Americans are too content with their modern comfort to fight for anything

The American population is currently experiencing the largest internal migration in living memory. Citizens are fleeing democrat areas in enormous numbers to escape poverty, crime, drugs, degeneracy, etc.. This is all happening concurrently with surging inflation and illegal immigration. Most on the right don't view the current government as legitimate, and people on the left don't value law and order in general. Add a heap of racial/class hatred to the mix and you have a recipe for disaster.

The military requires a constant flow of young blood to stay healthy and capable. It's not bleeding out in a generation- it's bleeding out now.

Gen Z males don't go to college, and if they do it's because they're black or brown and got free scholarships anyway. Young people also don't give a shit about healthcare since they think they're going to live forever.

The military alienated young white men (primary demographic) and appealing to non white young men has its own problems. Women in the military are a meme who go exclusively to get knocked up or get on disability.

    >most pogs and half the combat arms like armor have middling physical fitness at best
    >only units with rockstar pt scores across the board also destroy long term health with moronic training plans
    >stuff like ranger bat is horrendous for your longevity, ranger school cuts 11 months off your lifespan and the battalion intentionally maintains a tempo so high people can’t keep up so they leave and spread their knowledge elsewhere in the army
There’s plenty of reasons to join the army and fitness is not one of them

Depends on your MOS. Someone has to scrub the deck and clean out the bilges, i.e. the jobs that the navy routinely gives BUD/S dropouts, lol.

like any of the fricking pogs in here would see combat anyway
the military can be a great way to waste a few years in your youth. free shit, (potentially) exciting job that you won't be able to do anywhere else especially on someone else's dime. grils fricking love a man in uni too boys, jesus christ. USMC dress blues are chad-goggles for some bawds it's glorious. i went into the marines before grad school because i was getting older and couldn't go back afterwards. life is short boys, grab your balls and seize what you can.

i had a dream a few months ago signalling that i should join the marines. how big of a problem will it be if i don't know how to swim and can't run a mile? i can do 1/2/3/4 tho

        Anonymous

Swim isn't the biggest deal, they'll teach you but it will drag on and you'll be miserable. But 1/2/3/4 is not nearly as important as cardio in the service, particularly the Marines. Those dudes love to fricking run. Running in all weather, times of the day, drunk or sober, carrying logs or wearing vests, you gotta have good cardio.

    >Army wives are the most spiteful, bitter c**ts that do anything and everything they can to demoralize people because the let some high-ranking dude stuff her c**t
The enlistment rates are terrible for multiple reasons. DO NOT JOIN.

        It's all bullshit.
The strangest thing is all the "Don't commit suicide" flyers and posters. There are better ways to deal with that shit.
I was doing research on it. Trying to find new ways to implement some theories. Someone on my team snitched and fricked me over.
Which also reminds me. Army/Military bases are full of snitches, by the way.

What kind of theories? But yeah the government views soldier suicide as destruction of property.

People are so weird about the military, I assume it's mostly the younger crowd or the ACAB types. I did 6 years in the Navy and it was just normal dudes. We all hated it, nobody thought they were better then "civilians" and we thought the hero worship was cringe. We just wanted to workout and get drunk in the barracks. Do our time and get college paid for with some benefits or certs on the side. That's it. It was a fun time, got to travel around and I have cool pictures and stories to tell, no PTSD or missing limbs lol. You'll find maybe 2% of military are the buzzcut having, uptight "sir yes sir I love my country and my bible" types.

Do not enlist. Go to college and commission. Let the Hispanics and blacks enlist, and I say this as a black guy. They can use the structure, most white guys don't need this kind of heavy hand unless they are of the Appalachian stock.

    COMMISSION. DO NOT ENLIST.

They almost got me bro, but I did my research. Enlisting is slavery, they don't even run by the same laws as regular citizens. As an officer you can actually get fired. Enlist and you're shit? Welcome to an even shittier more dumbed down IQ dredge MOS/AFC or whatever. Prepare to be the shittruck guy.

Officer? You have to compete and you need to know how to play the social/career game. It's a real job.

Now, if my future son wanted to join the military - I would tell his ass to only enlist in Space Force or Airforce and nothing else if he wanted to dodge debt. But nothing else, every other branch is trash as far as lifestyle.

          Anonymous

Space force is underrated. It's probably just slightly more complicated cyber security work.

            Anonymous

If you get into the actual cyber sec job in Space/Air force it's nothing but hids/hips logs all day and mabye solarwinds if the shop is up to date but it sets you up for a really nice gig outside of the military with your TS clearance. I lucked out, and the job I got payed for TS clearance for me upon hiring. SpaceF and AirF are legit paths in the military. If you want to kill people/drive tanks/drown then there are other branches for actual boot-brains but being a POG is where it's at.

But just to reiterate, COMMISSION DO NOT ENLIST. DON'T FRICKING ENLIST. COMMISSION, COMMISION, COMMISSION, COMMISSION.
