Turning 23 was more depressing to me than turning 30. I just knew it was over at 23 for some reason, I was no longer actually young

Depends on the individual, but probably getting there.

By the way I don't mean life sucks after that or anything, I just mean you don't have that sort of youthful excitedness anymore. There is a very specific feeling which you just dont get anymore after your early 20s, even if your life is going fine. There is still plenty of reason to live after that obviously, it's just always kind of wistful remembering how it felt being young.

I think it's just a coming of age thing, you have that youthful hope and energy that you know could change the world if given the chance but you come to face the fact that we're just a part of this massive inefficient organism that can only be killed by natural causes

I would ask how but obviously it varies from person to person.
I think just regaining a sense of calm amidst the storm is a lot more than most people can manage these days, it feels like the collective consciousness has rotted significantly in the past 10 years or so.

Though I agree with you on this as well. The collective consciousness stagnation and decay feels all too real and palpable to me too. Like somewhere starting in 2012-2015, and certainly after it, no one's really got the same feel, and I think everyone would agree.

I often think this as well but I'm not sure if it's just because I was more ignorant and carefree back then. I'm 24 so I don't have a huge frame of reference. Perhaps some older anons can chime in? Has there really been a significant decay in the past 10 years that isn't just nostalgia bias?

Nothing against you two, but reading these posts kind of gets me more motivated than ever to recover my lost sense of self. I just respond very well to negative reinforcement, and seeing these makes me want to do something about it that I alone could not achieve. So for that, I thank you.

Depends on where and who. There are the stereotypical ones where people just complain about their wives. Then there are ones where the people there know multiple religious scriptures, the history of psychology, and are positive and well spoken and still read a lot. The worst imo are some of the christian ones who are obsessed with pornography and speak vacantly about jesus. Other christian ones talk about comparative mythology with buddhism and hinduism. It really depends on where and who.

You do if you want to be around people who are humble and open minded and not just trying to one-up one another.
The frustrating thing about normal religious groups is they are often unwilling to read even basic texts from other religions. I had a conversation with a pastor with a masters degree in theology who not only hadn't read the bhagavad gita but didn't know what it was. Now he was reading st. augustine and it was an oxford world classics so I asked him about it. The reason why this is crazy is that the gita is only about 200 pages. I also asked him to elaborate about gnosticism and he either wouldn't tell me because it's heresy or didn't know that much about it. Well, at least I learned more about augustine since my general knowledge of christian history starts at the schism and goes through the reformation.

I'm who he's talking to. Honestly, just having equity in a house with enough land for a garden and chickens if you want them, a career with growth potential, good knowledge of how to pay as little taxes as possible, a brain with enough knowledge on cars, home repair, finance to not be ripped off, a loving wife with a stable personalith, and 2-5 kids with the financial means to not send them to a public school is all anybody could ask for by 40. Even so you have a little time to marry younger and have kids. But as for career, you just end up falling into success if you aren't dumb, or afraid of failure, and work hard. You really don't need that much to be doing well if you don't define it by buying jet skis, blow, hookers, etc.

Best ways to minimize paying taxes for the common man is you do not marry your wife legally and then have her file as a single mother for financial assistance, you use the schedule c tax deduction to put your entire income tax burden into a personal business with minimal work required like buying into a drive through car wash, asic bitcoin miners, vending machines, etc. Always max out your tax write-off donations for the year and just donate into your kids private school or home school co-op. With a home school co-op you just have parents work together to teach kids to the parents strength and you basically pool money into the non-profit that you spend on your kids that would have been stolen anyway.

Private school and home school are a meme. But I live in an area with good public schools if you are a good student and get into the gifted program. Don't know how it is for you but those schools are infinitely better than any private school or homeschool in my area.

Unless you get ap credits that is pointless. State run schooling is inherently evil. Your kid can have a ged by 14-16 and a BS by 18-20 easily while having a friend group with co-ops. There is zero benefit to going to a state run facility or allowing the state steal your money to raise your kids for you.

The prussian model of schooling, which we have, is about training children to respect authority more than anything. The rockafellers brought it here to train and convince rural people to come live in cities and work in factories. The socialization is completely incidental. The networking you get done at a good grad school through conferences is more important than your freshman dorm as well, especially with the bachelors drop-out rates at most schools being ~50%. There are better socialization opportunities than sending your kid to a state run day prison.

Send away summer camps like sailing camp, sports camps, and a home school co-op which pools kids and has parents volenteer to teach the kids based on their specialities. For example, a veterinarian teaches biology, a computer scientist teaches mathmatics and computing, etc. If you "donate" your money into the co-op and write it off on your taxes you can use the funding toward things like sleep-away camps while only using money that the state otherwise would steal from you. As a bonus they don't have to associate with poors.

When did I ever say that at all? I said you should give your kid a fast track to success by skipping the wasted school time where they don'tlearn anything, avoid allowing the state to raise them for you, and give them rich social experiences funded by private money. Talk to any homeschooler who follows the state curriculum guidelines and they'll tell you they need like 2.5hrs a day of actual learning time to meet that. It's just a complete waste of time. You can do that as a kid or do 4 hours and be ahead and still have 4 or more extra hours a day to frick around playing.

Another tip I have that the very rich use but is less accessible to common people but some employee-owned companies offer is just being payed in stock options because capital gains tax when you sell is maximum 20% and lower the longer you hold instead of capping out near 37%. That's why ceos can so frequently claim to barely get a salary.

Now I'm in my 30s and I don't even feel my birthdays. I'm not particularly depressed about it because there is such little difference between saying you are 30 vs 31 or 32 that it all meshes into one and doesn't matter with people in their 20s still looking at you like you're ancient regardless if you're 30 or 36

No I loved it. Trump winning was one of the funniest things to ever happen. Him treating political debates like WWE prematches was fricking hilarious. Things will only be downhill for the rest of our lives and our kids will have worse lives than we did. Europe and the anglosphere are destined for collapse this century.

          >Things will only be downhill for the rest of our lives
Wrong way of looking at it. We get to live through one of the most transformative eras in human history in the lead up to 2050. The world map will literally change before out eyes; and, if you're a real go getter, you can play a hand in changing it because you have access to so many people/ideas/resources through the internet.

tl;dr The world is going to be EXTREMELY interesting over the next few decades and you have far more sway in how it goes then any other time in human history.

Let's face it: nobody cares about saving the world, they just care about themselves. Anyone taking action do it to ease their eco-anxiety. If saving the world made you rich it would have been solved before it was even a problem.

I'm 26 and feel pretty much the same as I did when I was 18. I basically did nothing for 3 years during the COVID/post-COVID period other than work from home and that killed a lot of momentum I was building up. It happened right when I was in the middle of uni, I lost an internship and had to study an extra year because of that bullshit virus. Now I'm working but feel stagnant and like there's nowhere else to go other than working the rest of my life.
