There are legends of water fasts that prevented loose skin.

      Anonymous

How does that work? Wouldnt the skin need to be hydrated for proper reduction?

        Anonymous

        It's dumbasses being dumbasses.
Water fast means dehydration so skin reduces to a small membrane across the entire body.
However water fast also means dehydration which prevents skin regeneration, so it damages your skin more.

        Age is only factor.
Even people with excessively fat bodies have extreme reduction in loose skin if done earlier in life.

You have a pretty good chance of not having loose skin, except for maybe your breasts. Basically if your lard hasn't folded over ("dunlap disease", or your gut dun lapped over your belt), you have a chance.

I started at same weight, although three inches taller. Only loose skin I have is a bit at the bottom of my ass. Its not bad though, more an issue of still having a hank hill ass than anything else I think.

I'm at pic 3 and have been so for a couple of months without success, were you on a TDEE-1000cal and lift/walk or a bigger deficit/different plan?

        Anonymous

Aimed for 1,000 cal/day deficit give or take. OMAD the first few months, didn't work out at all for the first two months or so; focused on fixing one shit habit at a time, which works better for me. Then started adding in calisthenics/dumbbells/kettlebells/rowing over time.

      Anonymous

      What was your diet?

        Anonymous

        Changed over time.
Early on when I was doing OMAD it was either: 1) one sandwich and three scrambled eggs 2)two sandwiches or 3) six scrambled eggs, plus a lot of vegetables I could eat raw in either case (spinach, tomatoes, carrots, sugar snap peas, etc). Sandwiches were ham, onions, cheese, brown mustard.
Later on I switched to what I still eat almost every week. Cook 8-10 lbs of chicken thighs every Sunday, cooked weight comes out to 5-6 lbs, enough to get me through the week. If pork loin is on sale I'll get that instead of chicken thighs, about same amount of raw weight. Large curd cottage cheese, all the same vegetables. That's basically dinner.
Sometimes I'll do roasted potato wedges or white rice as well. Sometimes hard boiled eggs. Snacks are things like rice cakes with roasted red pepper hummus or a bit of peanut butter. If I have breakfast, its usually overnight oats with 2% milk, a scoop of protein powder and a bit of honey.
I only drink water, black coffee and tea.

The trick with diet, I think, is find a handful of things that work for you and that you can eat over and over and not get tired of them. And obviously that meets your macro and calorie requirements. That's your baseline. So me for me its chicken thighs, cottage cheese and veggies, as far as dinner goes. Then you can branch out from there if you want. If you frick up or its not working, go back to the baseline diet for awhile and then try again. Or if you're a turbo autist like me, eat the same meal almost every day for a year+.

Did you maintain your caloric deficit of 1000 kcal when you started working out? What exercise regimens did you do over the course of your cut?

            Anonymous

I tried to maintain it. Towards the end it was almost impossible, and most days it was more like 600-800 deficit. TDEE drops as you lose weight (started at 3000 and by last May it was down to about 2280), so its eating less and less to maintain same deficit. And I get really fricking cold in a deep cut, which is miserable. Digesting food creates a lot of heat, so you get a lot less of that when you eat a lot less. I'd have my A/C set at 80 in the middle of the Texas summer and I'd still get chilly sometimes.

Exercising was pretty mild to be honest, wouldn't even call it a program or regimen. Rowing, when I was doing it consistently, was about 20-30 minutes a day. Then I would pick three or four exercises/lifts to do each day: say pullups, dips, incline dumbell press and hanging leg raises. Typically every day I would do pullups or chinups (alternating days) and something for core, then a couple for a major muscle group (chest, arms, legs, etc). I would do a set of each exercise whenever I took a break from work, since I work from home, and do four to six rounds per day. The idea was 1) something is better than nothing and 2) since I hadn't worked out seriously since my 20s, when I was in the military, I wanted to ease back into it to reduce risk of taking a trip to snap city. My joints and back are already pretty fricked from eight years in the Marines.

I still basically do that, hence not much in the way of lean mass gains—there is some but a lot less than if I had a serious program. I'm probably joining a gym in March, as I've basically been at the limit of what I can do with my home setup for awhile, and I don't want to spend any more to improve it.

Awesome progress, buddy. Are you by any chance flexing in these pics? Jw because I’m at about half your progress and my loose skin flap only disappears when I flex. It gives me some hope.

        Anonymous

I started lightly flexing core in the January one, not straining really hard or anything. I don't know why I did, but then I just kept on doing it to be consistent. I still had core definition not flexing, just less. Wasn't flexing anything else, and I never developed loose skin on my torso.

    Missing info:
    - age
    - for how long have you been morbidly obese
Those infos are quite relevant for your question.

Anyway, if you're looking for excuses to remain a fat frick, well live the fat frick life I guess. Your loss.

        Anonymous

If you've been morbidly obese for no more than one and a half year and you are in your 20s, you have good chances to recover. The more you wait, the more difficult.
Pick a diet you can sustain in the long run and lose weight slowly (even more slowly if you're hitting the gym and putting on lean mass). Drink a lot, some homosexual has already suggested water fasting which is totally inane. If anything, you should try to prevent dryness and use a moisturizer, like a skin oil for stretch marks (often used for pregnancy)
Your goal could be realistically accomplished in ~42 weeks, and you realistically could loose ~42 pounds for summer season with a nice potential for muscle mass.
Obviously you should quit smoking and don't expose to UVA/UVB w/o and adequate SPF.

If you're over 30% bf, you are more likely to have loose skin. The odds increase the longer and older you get.
You're not going to be one of those saggy freaks but you might have some loose skin.
Honestly, just lose the weight slowly with rolling water fast and cardio. Once you're down to 20% bf, start a hypertrophy program to increase muscle and tone.

        Anonymous

        >Once you're down to 20% bf, start a hypertrophy program to increase muscle and tone.
im on GZCLP right now but I was planning on swapping to a hypertrophy program once i finish the program in 3-6 months
        are there any you'd recommend?

          Anonymous

GZCLP is great but keep in mind, you aren't going to see a lot of muscle when you're also trying to cut. You tend to lose muscle when losing fat. While you can certainly preserve some of that muscle by lifting, it's easier to just lose the weight overall and then focus on building muscle. You'll see progress faster this way.

Personally, I started out with Strong Lifts 5x5. Helps you gain strength and perfect form before doing a 5 day bro split.

I don't know about how you'll end up - but I lost 190-200 lbs in the past year @ 6'1 (left is like 480ish and right is 275ish) and I have loose skin forming all over my lower abdomen, between my thighs, under upper arms, and now on my ass.

I have stretch marks everywhere on my body, so no matter how much I lose I'll always look like a circus freak. The pic from right is a month and a half old , I'm like 255ish now. I'm a 29 year old kissless hugless handholdless dateless virgin.
