Machines are all you need

Give me a reason why your average dude shouldn't do 3x6-10 or 3x8-12, on mostly upper body machines, maybe squats, rdls, calves for legs

i do machines on days where the free weights are too occupied. just +10% the weight, since it's only incidentally usage of the machine, i like to think it actually helps in building muscle equally compared to free weights in this way.

i dont have a reason. Machines are incredibly based but the problem is that machines arent created equal. If you have ever lifted at a hotel gym for example, you'd know. Or unfortunately most commercial gyms too. But if you have hammer strength, nautilus etc. then by all means.

      Yeah. This.
In the gym we have 2 machines for shoulders, 1 of them takes a rotator cuff a year aprox, the other one its freaking cumtastic I can get sick pumps and get sore for days.

No stabilization = weak accessory muscles, and these look aesthetic. It's why gymnasts look so aesthetic.

    >Meme machines are actually good because you don't have to worry about fatiguing your stabilizers!
    >Ack why do I keep getting injured?

doesn't matter, not the point, some dude with a life going in for like 30 minutes 3 times a week, just looking better, mobility and cardio is a completely separate thing, acting like doing standing OHP because it works your "stabilizers" is gonna help you with shoulder mobility and posture is stupid, stop trying to get the best of 2 shitty worlds

tbf tho nvm on this because standing ohp is one of my favorite exercises, I hate the shoulder machine, haven't found a good shoulder machine yet. Not like I'd want one though

        Based.
Free weight strength exercises don't work your "stabilizers" any more than their machine counterparts do. Stabilizers need to be trained directly and, surprise surprise, the best way to hit them is with cables and purpose-built machines.

Most shoulder press machines are designed to emulate a dumbbell shoulder press (or a behind the neck press) rather than a barbell OHP. It's a shame but tbh OHP is a complex lift and I'm not sure how they could capture it. The biggest downside of machines is that you can often do the exercise not-as-intended and still look like you're completing reps and OHP would suffer from this big time.

Because none of that exists outside of the gym. You will have strength and no practice applying it to anything interesting or real. As a crutch to keep you healthy it's fine. As a way to live it's not. Go do something real to build muscles, like shoveling dirt.

I'd say a freeweight > machine when it's a lift which biomechanically aligns with the movement pattern best + stimulates the most muscle when you DON'T lift in exactly a straight line. I've been doing Smith machine overhead press for a while and I've come to the conclusion that it's actually a bit of a pain because you should be kind of pressing up and back rather than a straight line in order to stimulate the most muscle in your delts on this lift. But shrugs are done in a straight line basically so they go well on the smith machine.

Because body weight and alternating grip is all you really need and paying for a gym is like lying for a social club that you’re not supposed to be social at and therefore moronic

you can, but make sure to work your spinal erectors as well (although I do not think that it is better than free weight)

I would think rdls would hit them enough?

You train what you train. Hence if bodybuilding is your goal, machines are great for isolation. So are straps and hooks btw or anything else that allows you to individually target any muscle. This is also great if you are injured.
If you have a different goal like functionality than machines can still help but are less important.

honestly its just cause free weights are more fun, going in for however long a day and doing machines is just inherently more boring, even if it'll get you the same results
