lets be real, people only ohp with a barbell to be le hipster and because nobody does it at their gym but theres no reason to do it over dumbbell
Two-handed regular ohp just feels more satisfying than doing it with dumbells
This exercise never fricking feels good or "right" to me whether it's done with barbell or db. Frick overhead presssing, all my homies hate overhead pressing
I do these every time with 75s, feels good for me. I'd say they don't make barbell OHP pointless though, since standing OHP is much different from seated and supported.
Just do both. >But muh bench works front delts too
YOU ARE A homosexual. Just do both OHP and then dumbell shoulderpress in the 8-12 range and your shoulders will blow up in size.
Why do people act as if you can't do more than one exercise per muscle group lol.

Oh shit. I didn't realize someone else already made that joke. I'm not really racist btw. I just think they're unsettling and not very smart. Not a huge deal but it gets annoying when they're boated in mass to your country. I don't like to be hateful. I only call them Black folk because they don't respect you if you're polite.
>My shoulders click when seated
Rotator cuff.
Either you're too hunched over, or your arms are too far out. Try to bring them in slightly. Trust me, I used to ignore the clicking, and then I injured my bicep tendon because of it. 2 years of no upper body work... It's not worth it bro.
In all seriousness though no it does not. Both exercises hit the shoulders differently. Standing OHP is objectively the best possible exercise for your shoulders since it forces you to be stable which increases strength on multiple parts of your body. If you do it right you should even feel your core getting worked. You can't get this with dumbbells sitting down. Stop being lazy.
Whats the proper form on these? like how do you bring them at that position? kick them up with knees? seems kinda hard to do
also what should the elbow angle be?
Once I got up to 85lb DB press I literally had to switch to BB because kicking them up exhausted my ass. I don't know proper technique to get them up but I would kick them up one by one with my knees.
You gotta like... really know the sweet spot for the kick up because one time I kicked a little to hard and it went a little too far back and I had a pinched nerve or smth for like a month.
I'll admit that I definitely would feel the DB press more but I still feel BB press and my shoulders have grown and strength has improved so ima just stick with BB.
>need 2pl8's to get enough stimulus for hypertrophy >gym only has up to 100 lb barbells >still need to get barbells into position instead of just lifting the bar of the rack
yes, sitting is better for shoulder isolation, standing is better as a quasi compound, since it takes a good amount of core strength to stay stable during the lift.
This is why seated dumbbell OHP is king and standing barbell OHP is an ego lift
IST will never admit it though, literally go to any gym and see how many people are bb OHPing, the biggest guys in mine with Boulder shoulders only do the shoulder machine and dumbbell
I switched to db press when I stalled out on bb, I liked db press and I added a lot of weight doing it but when I switched back to bb press I found I could only do slightly more weight than when I stopped, I really expected a db movement to translate into a bb movement pretty close to 1 for 1 but for whatever reason I got basically no progress out of months of adding weight to db press. Also db did not clear up my muscle imbalance and my left shoulder is still a bit weaker than my right 🙁
So I’m just going to stick to bb press because I feel like it’s functionally better to be stronger in that movement for quality of life.
I’m still looking for a remedy bro, I try doing more dumbbell movements and just waiting tell my left side catches up to move up on weight but I’m not really sure there’s anything better you can do. Also I swear every time I pull a muscle it’s always my left side.
I don't do dumbbell since BTN is my preferred variant.
Also, I need more pec work so I do incline instead of OHP.
I tweak my lower back on barbell at about the same rate I frick up my neck doing seated db
Yes I'm a formlet
Try lower weights and isolating your low back, abs, and neck/traps.
They are getting injured because they are weak, or you are overloading them.

Yeah do unilateral, and try to REALLY focus on the left side when doing lifts.
I had a similar issue with curls. Would get elbow pain since my right was doing all the lifting. After curling with what felt like only my left arm via ez bar curls my left adapted and now I am more balanced.
I love this dude
He seems a nice guy
he is a douche
I like that exercise
lets be real, people only ohp with a barbell to be le hipster and because nobody does it at their gym but theres no reason to do it over dumbbell
I just like doing barbell press. I the only one doing them on my gym tho
Wrong. Once you get to big boy weights OHP becomes amazing at working your core and back
I do it because it is the best lift for your upper body, with the second pull ups and third dips.
weighted neutral grip chinups is
It just feels that way because you have to tense the whole body, you wont get big abs from OHP, at least not compared to isolating abs.
>lifting a bar with huge plates over your head while you power stance. Everyone watching
Or
>sit in your big boy chair while you use your knees to bump up your little toy car wheels and feebly lift them, arms wobbling around
Wheres the competition?
I like the feeling of barbell press more
Two-handed regular ohp just feels more satisfying than doing it with dumbells
>I just feel Black folk should get reparations
OK redditor
I feel stronger with a bar and i like it more
This exercise never fricking feels good or "right" to me whether it's done with barbell or db. Frick overhead presssing, all my homies hate overhead pressing
Start doing viking press with a landmine attachment - totally changed the game for me, no more uncomfortable strict pressing
I do these every time with 75s, feels good for me. I'd say they don't make barbell OHP pointless though, since standing OHP is much different from seated and supported.
>sitting
not an actual exercise, fatty
be a man and just stand up
I've come to prefer these. Way more ergonomic. I still barbell OHP sometimes though.
I've done these way more than barbell, but I've been trying to do more standing OHP because it's harder and I like the full body engagement.
>frick you all, I ego lifted dumbbell OHP and strained my chicken neck instead of progressing like I should have!
oh no! Anyway...
it was barbell ohp not dumbbell
edited it for you:
>frick you all, I ego lifted barbell OHP and strained my chicken neck instead of progressing like I should have!

Black person
Don't try to lift weight that you can't lift with proper form.
Just do both.
>But muh bench works front delts too

I want to play monopoly with her and throw the little hotels in her cleavage
>Nose piercings
Back to the African tribes with her.
My shoulders click when seated but on OHP they don't.I do both anyway

Thanks bro I will try it.
what you mean bring them in slightly? as in closer to ur shoulders?
I think he meant keep your elbows at 45 degrees
Warm up with lu raises.
Stop being a b***h
Will try
lol
LMAO even

barbell is more prone to injury the risk isnt worth it
Maybe if you are DYEL
I tweak my lower back on barbell at about the same rate I frick up my neck doing seated db
Yes I'm a formlet
Some exercises just don't work for everyone, even if you don't want to do squats nobody can tell you shit honestly it's your body
the point is that you don't need a chest focused exercise if you already do OHP
False and suboptimal. OHP + weighted dips.
yeah I agree, dips is superior to bench, but it's also a very easy way to snap city
Love this exercise, gets my shoulders worked without being hard
Dont ego lift
Pic rel
i like bb more feels better. db is alright feel like i cant do as much maybe because of my shite core
>doesn't do both
ngmi
for hypertrophy yes
nobody does barbell OHP for hypertrophy, they do it because its cool to press heavy weight over your head
They do it because they're dyels larping as strong
What's his name and his gf's name again?
Jim Nasium
Do both dumbass
Arnold press is better
Arnold press is my main, and it's frickign amazing for shoulders.
I already do standing dumbbell OHP, is seated dumbbell better?
Why the frick is my standing barbell ohp so much weaker than my seated db ohp?
Stabilizers
ok zoomer
>Makes your shoulders injury proof
>by injuring you so badly you can't even use them anymore, this making them injury proof
What's it like being made of glass?
These are particularly dangerous for novices who haven't trained their ability to get their scapula in the correct position.
Behind neck press feel better for me.
Whats the proper form on these? like how do you bring them at that position? kick them up with knees? seems kinda hard to do

Shit is so annoying.

The idea of doing any exercise sitting down, if you don't have to sit down, is moronic.
Standing OHP > any meme sitting shoulder press
>filters your shitty shoulder mobility
Are you homosexuals not just doing both lifts...?

Very common in todays age to have big imbalances.
Do you need to use two dumbbells or is one arm at a time fine?
try standing one arm press instead
