I just started lifting consistently for 2 months. I’m 230 pounds and 6’1. I can only do like half of a single pull-up? Am I weak as frick if manlets can do these or does it just take time? Or am I too fat and will never do a pull up at this weight?

Valerio Naldi did a 100 kg pullup with a bodyweight of 245.8 lbs.
You're just not strong enough for your weight (too much fat). Keep at it and you'll get there one day.

      >if manlets can do these
manlets have it easier doing pull-ups like they have it easier on the bench because smaller arms means they have to pull/push less distance to complete a rep and the closer it is to them the easier it is to control the weight. but your weight is why you can't do them though not your height

      >Or am I too fat

      > will never do a pull up at this weight?
Not with this bf%. You need to lose fat AND gain muscle, lots in both categories. But you can probably crank out a large number of pullups by simply cutting till you can see veins on your abs.

      Anonymous

You can absolutely do pull ups with a high body fat percentage, they're just way harder than movies etc make them look.
You have to work your way up with assisted pull ups or lat pulldowns until you can do one bodyweight pull up.

      Anonymous

do a couple sets of slow, controlled negatives two or three times per week, and I guarantee you'll be able to do real pull ups by Christmas (most likely much sooner, maybe even by the end of the month)
as others have mentioned, your weight is the biggest problem, but you're definitely not so overweight that pull ups need to be a long term goal. they are a somewhat technical movement if you have never done them before, it is a bit of a process to learn how to engage all of the back muscles to do one properly, but I don't think you are that far off

Why does no one do full rom on these? I went to to lift with my cousin andi did them from deadhang to chest at the bar and he was trying to tell me I don't have to do them like that and it's military style ( whatever that means). I don't listen to him but even when I was going to a public gym I rarely ever saw people do them with full rom

      Anonymous

Because is harder. Chest to bar pull up it is the real thing. That is the next filter.

        Anonymous

It was actually the deadhang he was having a problem with. He would stop right before deadhang

Deadhang isn't good for your elbows when you're doing weighted pull ups

        How so?

          Anonymous

Tension on your tendons isn't linear. The more weight you have on you the harder your tendons work. You can easily snap your body up doing weighted exercises because your body isn't necessarily designed for the extra load without muscle tension

No they are not, you just have to understand that IST is cope posting central with a lot of cross posters from /LULZ/ and similar places.
So you get a lot of mentally deranged morons that cling on to a single physical characteristic of their otherwise decrepit beings.
I am 5'10" with a +3 ape index meaning a wing span of 6'1", my best weighted pull-up is one rep with +90lbs, at a BW of around 190lbs. I've been lifting for 1.5 years, that isn't even particularly good. Unless you are obese there's no excuse to be unable to do pull-ups.
