>BJJ will ruin your body
What if I don't compete? I just want to do something more engaging than rooooning for cardio
t. brazillian white belt who started taking 3 classes a week on top of weightlifiting
Is that from a watch or chest strap? We aren’t allowed to wear watches and I’ve been iffy on wearing the chest strap as there is some level of sparring or hitting the torso for conditioning every session. Is sad because I feel like there’s no point wearing a tracker any more when it doesn’t account for Muay Thai classes in recovery/training load.
Have absolutely no fricking idea why people want to make getting their joints twisted while rolling around with other men their hobby. It’s unironically more important to LOOK formidable (ie work out and be muscular) than to actually be formidable. Having people not want to mess with you is far superior to being a potential target who might be able to do a wrist lock in the right situation
Partially true, but then you have a level of inner doubt *can I actually fight*, type of though process and it bites the back of your mind.
It may make you pussy, with constant inner doubt, despite being a big guy. In fact it is very common.
>Women smell that type of self doubt easily on you and threat you worse. >More predatory people at work smell it on you and threat you worse. >It helps with managing more intense situations in life in general, despite no fighting being involved.
It's best to have some level of fighting capability backed by training, not the *I CAN FIGHT BRO* street type of shit.
*I trained when I was 14* type of arguments also fall flat pretty badly. A man should be capable of fighting. It makes you more durable in basic shit.
>It’s unironically more important to LOOK formidable (ie work out and be muscular) than to actually be formidable. Having people not want to mess with you is far superior to being a potential target who might be able to do a wrist lock in the right situation
Lol. No, it doesn't work that way, zoomerinho.
probably because lethwei is literally illegal in most countries, here is the list of countries where it is allowed:
Myanmar, Japan, Singapore, Slovakia, Austria, Thailand, Taiwan, England, United States (only the state of Wyoming), New Zealand and Poland
Boxing/kickboxing if you don't spar, maybe Judo if you can find a place that will just do drills and then no contact stuff like Karate and Krav Maga. Sparring is the place where people get hurt, more so at "serious" gyms full of tryhard homosexuals that go 100% all the time.
>more so at "serious" gyms full of tryhard homosexuals that go 100% all the time.
We have multiple pros and national title holders for muay thai. Sparring is very light except for dudes preparing for fights
It’s funny how some people think light sparring is worthwhile at all. There is a reason hard sparring has been done for so long. And it’s not becuase people are being try hard. It’s so that when you actually have an actual fight, you are comfortable from your sparring and can do what you do while sparring. It’s just like in bjj where people do not roll light all the time. It’s supposed to be hard to mimic a real competition. Those who want to be good at striking arts simply have to risk hard sparring. Nobody is going to become a world champion doing light sparring all the time.
I don’t see why you just changing the words makes any difference. Even a hobbyist whatever that means to you will end up with a worse body than if he never did bjj at all. It does not improve your body like doing strength training or cardio would. Each session has a very real risk of dramatically decreasing your quality of life in old age and even middle age. This might not even be noticeable after training. A person might feel fine but may have put himself in a decreased position for having a healthy body later in life.
If by "useful" you mean in a street fight, it's not. If you face more than one opponent, which is likely, you will grapple one and then the others will kick your head in. And against just one untrained person, even Aikido can be effective.
I know and I hate it. I'm too much of a turbomotivated boomer not fall for it, but I hate to think what this place does for young and easily moldable guys.
Started BJJ in my 20s and go to a 2 stripe blue belt. Now I'm in my mid 30s, have a career to tend to and a busy life, and honestly even managing 2-3x a week to training on top of the busy schedule is hardly worth it anymore. The load on the body, the recovery necessary after each workout and the injuries you get, are just not worth the squeeze for me.
Between fighting with kids/YA who are in their prime and other people who have nothing going on in their lifes other than training 7x a week, I just don't have it in me any more. I rather go do some boxing and lifting, than risk getting some joint fricked up due to spazz white belt or someone who is in competition mode. People who are in the honeymoon phase will defend this, as well as people who have committed by giving every thing else for BJJ, but you will know this to be true.
>i got old >things i did when i was young caught up with me >my body has started aching
so this motherfricker got old? that's all these guys are saying, it's all the football players are saying. Shit catches up with you, get over it. You will also die at some point, and there will be a cause.
Yes. But who wants to feel like a cripple in their 40s? These activities are simply not worth it unless you are making millions of dollars and can just retire.
>purple belt
>30 something baldcell
>dyel
I don't listen to losers like that, sorry
Saw this cringe video pop up in my feed as well. Definitely not clicking on some reddit video.
Let me give you a quick rundown from
A blackbelt with a full head of hair and piercing blue eyes:
BJJ will ruin your body. It is extremely unlikely that it will save your life.
It saved his life in the sense that others say Dark Souls saved their life. It’s that sort of cringe video.
>BJJ will ruin your body

Muay thai is far better cardio.

Chest. Sadly now that i swapped to bjj i can't use it
Ride a bicycle
so do you get a hair transplant once you graduate from brown belt?

It looks like all of these happen cause these guys do it as a lifestyle rather than a hobby
israelite jit su is a racket. Muay Thai is highly effective.
nothing done at a high level is healthy especially if it's based on physical performance.
if you don't want to destroy your body with bjj the last thing you should do is go into MT and do that in spades + get CTE
>20 minutes video
why are youtubers like this
20 minutes is the magic cutoff for Youtube monetization and the algorithm. It encorages people to stretch their videos out
Erm I'm not gonna watch his life story
Summarize the vid in 1 word
>Summarize the vid in 1 word
homosexual
>le joe rogan said i can kill you with juio jitsui so i did it too!
Why is bjj so absolutely cringe?
Just do Judo or striking arts, moron
>Judo is safer than bjj
lol
lmao even
one of the first lesson in judo is how to fall safely
>one of the first lesson in judo is how to fall sa... ACK
forgot your wojak? /qa/'s death really brought you moron homosexuals everywhere
Black person what? Judo is much more injury prone EVEN with learning how to fall
Same is true of bjj at a decent gym. The issue in judo is more knees and hips
So what martial arts doesn't make you a cripple ?
Any striking art if you don’t compete or do hard headshots in sparring
striking arts, maybe not boxing and lethwei since their rules are moronic
Lethwei is just MT for people who couldn’t cut it in MT anyways. You won’t even find a real lethwei gym outside of Bangkok
Try borneo. Why the frick would lethwei be in thailand?
There are good lethwei gyms in Thailand. Overall a better place for a westerner to go than Burma.
yeah, this is what dave leduc did
Until he got b& for being autistic and shittalking buakaw

it's worthwhile for hobbyists, doesn't make sense to go 100% every single day bc you want to win some rolls after class, easy ass way to burnout

Yeah, sparring is what gives you CTE. I'd rather choose a sport that doesn't make you get beaten in the head for years on end.
Pencak Silat
>So what martial arts doesn't make you a cripple ?
Everything done before the 1960s. Unironically.
Boxing? My man Teddy Roosevelt was an avid boxer, and he didn't seem moronic.
I do drunken style (like drunken boxing etc). Never lost a fight. People always get surprised
BJJ seems useful but i heard about one dude becoming paralyzed from the neck down from putting too much weight on his neck and i lost all interest
If by "useful" you mean in a street fight, it's not. If you face more than one opponent, which is likely, you will grapple one and then the others will kick your head in. And against just one untrained person, even Aikido can be effective.
i like sambo
sambo is hard as frick to find sadly
Frick you gays, I'm gonna take judo classes on top of my gymratting and there's nothing you can do to stop me.
go for it anon, this entire board is just demotivation central
I know and I hate it. I'm too much of a turbomotivated boomer not fall for it, but I hate to think what this place does for young and easily moldable guys.
Same. Even with injury risk I want to bury 2 years into BJJ before I move onto something else.

look up what the human weapon Georges St-Pierre was doing while he was training for fights for inspiration
>i got old
>things i did when i was young caught up with me

I don't see anyone who has a career and life going for them purposefully getting into street fights.
