When will you autists admit that mentzer was a methhead with a training ideology that simply doesn't work especially for naturals. Volume is king.
Post physique
His training methodoly is like meth made into a training plan
Holy shit has anyone noticed this before
What's going on the b-bros?
Indeed, Mentzer should have won. Better definition all around, legs are better, core is better. All around a more balanced physique. All that said he shouldn't have thrown the towel after losing, he should have kept competing
Mentzer looks like a fricking twig, Arnold dwarfs him in yoke size, chest thickness and even arm thickness
what the frick how did I not see that before
Holy shit
don't get it
Look in the circle
Is that photoshopped?
haha funny meme
Thats fricked up.
Cant believe he did this. Dude is fricked in the head for sure
what does he know?
No fricking way. Holy shit.
when you shit brix
b-bros..???
IT'S A FRICKING GHOST
how far back does this go? and how long will it be allowed to continue?
>Mentzer retired from competitive bodybuilding after the 1980 Mr. Olympia at the age of 29. He maintained that the contest results were predetermined in favor of Schwarzenegger, and held this opinion throughout his life.
Literally mindbroken by Arnold
A lot of people said Arnold was not in his usual good shape. Wasn't just Mentzer
Still mogs
The criteria for the show wasn't size, else Lou would have been Arnold every single time.
>Arnold 1.88 m / 6'2"
>Lou Ferrigno 1.96 m / 6'4" and 35 pounds heavier
The criteria was deveopment, definition, etc. Arnold was given the prize, because muh fame
any pic lou arnold and mentzer side by side?
didnt know arnold used to twinkmaxx
Arnold still mogs him.
I
Mike Mentzer was right about everything, but the IST and r/fit/ness people hate him because he didn't pretend that every workout style has merit like you people do. He was far more passionate, caring, and correct than anyone else is and was.
Do every real set to failure.
I have made really good gains for the first time in years following his philosophy. Volume cucks get it backwards. Roids allow you to recover quicker, allowing for more volume. At this point I stopped caring tho. People can either try Mentzer's style and do it right or frick off
>Roids allow you to recover quicker, allowing for more volume
And then the tendon snaps and the gains are gone since roider muscle growth tends to far outpace their tendon development. Natties can handle volume if they train for it. You can become a calisthenics bro and handle 300 pull ups a day for three to four days a week or whatever the ideal volume calisthenic bro program these days. The real question is whether or not that much volume is enjoyable and whether or not it's better to do higher weights in lower rep ranges.
Mentzer's program is nowhere near enough to build a good foundation for a lifter since you definitely need more frequency as a beginner to build that foundation. Moreover, Mentzer's program came when he already had a foundation in lifting so his ideas are skewed somewhat by his perspective. Mentzer is certainly right about the two hours twice a day being unnecessary and about not needing a half-dozen exercises per muscle group. The best way to train is more in the middle as was done in the Silver Era. Those lifters typically did three full days/week which lasted maybe an hour to an hour and a half per day and whenever they introduced a beginner routine, they would assign three full body days/week. Reggie Park's beginner program (the same Arnold started on) consisted of two exercises:
>Exercise A
5x5 back squats
5x5 chin ups or pull ups
5x5 dips or bench press
2x10 curls
2x10 wrist work
2x15-20 calves
>Exercise B
Front Squats 5×5
Rows 5×5
Standing Press 5×5
Deadlifts 3×5 (2 warm-up sets and 1 “stabilizer set”)
Wrist Work 2×10
Calves 2×15-20
And you were supposed to alternate between the two each week. So the first week you would do A -> B -> A, then on the second week you do B-> A-> B, and so on. Reggie Park would vary his personal program when training for Mr. Universe however and it came with its own logic.
nice cherrypicked picture. just watched some footage, it's not even close, Mentzer was the obvious choice
Mike forgot chest day
arnie forgot hiswholefrickingtorso day
arnolds chest and bis are fricking out of this world im mirin so hard
Did Schwarzenegger ever lose? I can't imagine anyone looking better than him.
He lost to Frank Zane in Mr Universe ('68 I believe)
Zane beat him once. They both had God tier bodies but in different ways. Personally I think Zane looked better.
There is a reason schwarzeBlack person has bought the rights of the 80 Olympia.

>peak mentzer barely beats out deflated Arnold, and only in some poses
Lol
>arnold as measuring stick
lol
where's that australian show video? it's "gone" lol
what a little cutie
where do I start with mentzermaxxing bros?
how about his books?
yeah which one, that was the question.
Read his earlier stuff before he retired, he went off the rails afterwords. Also look at his actual workouts. They’re good.
Here’s his back workout in the late 70s. Note how he uses pre fatigue super sets, and usually does 2 main working sets. None of the “one set to failure, workout once every 4-7 days” nonsense he is now known for preaching. Watch all the videos in this series, they are informative about how he actually worked out. He doesn’t mention warm up sets though, you’ll have to figure that one out yourself.
Arnold is living proof is that all you need are chest and arms, and no one could match his arms back then, and his chest is still unbeaten.
You’re forgetting his shoulders. They’re fricking huge, especially when you realize they still look big attached to his chest and arm. Mentzer had a better back and legs. Arnie had the best chest, arms and shoulders.
-eight-trained each muscle more than once a week
Mentzer is a moron that thinks that Ramon Dino can beat CBum
>Lose
>"It was all a conspiracy Arnold was buddies with the judges yada yada"
>Quit
>Stews on it like a b***h his whole lie
>Become a coked out meth head freak
>Still a manlet
>Dies young
Nice hero you got there Mentzgays
i'd rather idolize a meth head than a globalist cuck
don't idolize anybody, idolatry is a sin
I don't idolize him, I just think he was right about most things. Except philosophy. His ayn rand love was cringe
Bodybuilding is the gayest fricking shit I've ever seen.
>All footage lost
>All raw pictures lost
>What we have is a couple pics from the sides from unusual photographers
>Mike Mentzer, being a couple inches shorter, was heavier than Arnold
>Mentzer had more definition than Arnold
>Mentzer had better cuts than Arnold
>Posedows Mentzer dominated
Oh but Arnold looks better in this one pic because Mentzer's chest is small!!!!!!111!
Bodybuilding is not for normies. Seeing Mentzer's dense muscle compared to the bloat Arnold brought in should've placed him at least 8th. Everything is just too convenient for blackBlack person.
that nicks strength and power guy on YT found some old lost photos of arnold on a roof in his offseason, he looked fat and deflated lol
ITT homosexuals arguing about a men's beauty pageant from 40 years ago
anyone tried mike's approach to exercise? sounds quite crazy to think about doing just 1-2 sets per exercise even if its to failure, i have been trying it with around 4 sets to failure with less weight than usual and it working great so far
If you want to do one set to failure you have to practice it. Meaning do a set to failure and take 15 big breaths then do another one, 15 more big breaths and a third, and if you still have energy after this you're not ready and you need to do a beginner program. If you're properly destroyed you can see how putting it all into one extended set does more to massacre your muscles than pumping out relatively easy reps for an hour and you can work on doing the first set harder. You'll know when you only need one followup set or zero.
i see what you mean, started lifting weights 2 months ago and i'm doing 4-5 sets to failure and around 4 exercises a day(squats/dl/calf raises/situps on leg day ie) , waiting 1-2m between sets but never considered the possibility of a "big" set where you rest a bit and keep going so i'll try that, the thing is training that way, especially with the big compound lifts such as squat takes a huge mental effort, doing curls or calf raises to failure is a joke but pushups/squats/dl is tough
Don't do it until you have decent lifts. Just progressing the weight on the bar each time is plenty of intensity for now. Mentzer was right but he didnt understand that producing maximum intensity isn't something that people who aren't freaks can just do from day one.
I have and
is absolutely correct
I literally can't go that hard
I can do a "max" set and be able to do more reps after a short period, because I'm not yet able to put everything into that one set. Definitely takes practice.
I've been doing it since the start of April and my lifts have increased in weight and/or reps each workout, as Mike said it would. I already had a decent base, basically at 1/2/3/4 before I started. I switched to the yates split but with more rest days. I like how dorian split up the workouts, but each muscle every 6 days is too much since I'm not blasting deca. I'm shooting for each muscle every 10-12 days
>low volume
>on a natty
pick one METHzen
Dorian Yates also followed Mike's training philosophy and dominated the bb world for years, and he's still around preaching it to this day.
arnold just has better sculpted shapes of every single muscle
just look about how well rounded his biceps and triceps are
how smooth and well proportioned his chest and torso are
there is not a single muscle that would look like it shouldnt be there
he actually looks like an ancient greek sculpture
and mr olympia is all about exactly that
no wonder he won
simple as that
so cope and seethe, the rest of people
He does look amazing with all this fat and water weight he brings to the table. And it's functional too. It's a good look. Bodybuilding though, moronic that it is, is about getting rid of all that and somehow not losing muscle. Mentzer obviously did that better.
