This post reveals a fundamental part of the HIT zoomers mindset. Half of the appeal of HIT is not its purported benefits for hypertrophy, but a personality cult around Mentzer, which is why there is such an intense focus on the tragedy of Mentzer not winning this bodybuilding show back in '78 or whenever, and the hatred of Arnold (because his personality cult is viewed as competition for Mentzer's). The other part is that you can pretend to be hardcore while going to the gym for 30 mins once a week.

It wasn't actual meth, it was some amphetamines he used as a preworkout but that's pretty different from what junkies use. Many today use DMAA which is also amphetamines in your preworkout and it's more like caffeine but stronger

        That's different, of course

I train every 4-7 days ideal routine style and I’m seeing crazy gains

          >Why can't I gym 2 days a week and focus the rest of my week to sports training?
According to Mentzer cardio is pointless because weight training for 30 minutes twice is week is more than enough if done with low rest periods. I am also certain he would object to you training some other sport as it would interfere with recovery.

Yeah it’s stupid to waste energy to useless sports if you wanna build mass

No, if anything you will be better off in the gym because of increased capillaries in the muscles.

Yes. And you get way better returns by going farther at a steadier pace, or doing HIIT - both multiple times per week, not just sprinting a mile twice per week

Because every gay is looking for "THE SECRET FORMULA" for easy gains.

And Mentzer "less is more" approach is exactly that. Promises unbelievable results by doing a third of the work.

In reality, we know nowadays that Mentzer’s programs are seriously lacking in volume and frequency to elicit optimal stimulus.

It’s popular for noobs and skinny teenagers (ie reddit) because you don’t use a lot of calories with these quick workouts and still triggers hypertrophy (suboptimally though ) so a noob will gain muscle without having to eat like an ogre.

kek, you are in for a rude awakening if you think gymceling 5 times a week will give you significantly better results than, let's say, 2 intense workouts a week, especially if you're a natty
I might have shit genetics, but I lifted for more a decade and in my experience more than 2 sessions a week border on wasting time
mentzer crowd is definitely onto something

        >seriously lacking in volume and frequency to elicit optimal stimulus.
The stimulus is caused by mechanical tension, which itself has nothing to do with volume or frequency. These are completely separate concepts.

Mechanical tension is only one factor of the stimulus, saying that frequency and volume don’t have a role in the growth stimulus is being a delusional brainlet

          >Mechanical tension is only one factor of the stimulus, saying that frequency and volume don’t have a role in the growth stimulus is being a delusional brainlet
Imagine an individual muscle fiber within the muscle. It's sole purpose is to contract when ordered. Do you think this fiber keeps track of how many times it has contracted, using a little counter? Do you think it keeps a little calendar to mark down when it was last used? No, that's ridiculous. All it can do it contract. When ALL the fibers have contracted, and mechanical tension is at its peak, that's when your body decides that it's time to add more muscle. Your body simply does not know how many workouts you've done this week or how many reps you did yesterday. It doesn't matter.

Nobody implied that a muscle had a brain, moron. You're making a shit strawman argument.

Not a strawman, since that's not what I said. I said they do not have the ability to track volume and frequency. Your claim that volume and frequency factor into the stimulus you get in the workout is wrong.

palestinetel or schonfeld who advocate for obsenly high volume without ever going close to failure have people in gyms for hours and alot of people do realize that a few hard sets taken to or close to failure are really all you need
are there alot of people doing acutal HIT i.e. taking sets beyond failure via eccentrics or drop sets or assisted reps or is it people returing to a reasonable quality over quantity approach?

The just do 10 sets of 10 reps or any other scheme can be said to be just as much of a
      >"THE SECRET FORMULA"
The high volume routines themselves come from muscle mags in the 30's to 70's sold in this exact way. Just do the rain dance ten times instead of once and it will rain.

In reality, the ideas Mentzer inherited were simply just about find the most efficient way to produce results.
      >a third of the work.
You do work more in the last couple reps and that partial rep when failure than you do in all the sets combined of a typical high volume program. Reps in high volume programs tend to be low fairly low effort reps, so lots of sets are required to compensate for that.
      >we know nowadays that Mentzer’s programs are seriously lacking in volume and frequency to elicit optimal stimulus.
No. We don't. Frequency tends to not matter. Once per week per muscle group makes very little difference compared to two or more times per week when volume is equalized (without considering any differences in training methodologies), and additional volume being beneficial depends on training methodology and the qualities of your sets. If you are using slow negatives, taking a set to failure, etc. you likely do not need anywhere close to the amount of volume of someone who doesn't go to failure and doesn't use slow negatives.

The volume and frequency recommendations commonly cited are just the opinions of some official organizations and are not necessarily correct in general.
