I could only grow a goatee and some sideburns, and it filled my cheeks and sides out nicely, looked patchy when I first started growing it all out but after a couple weeks of pube face it came together better than I thought it would

Put lotion on before you apply it, making sure to wait for the lotion to dry before actually putting it on. Then after waiting the 3 or so hours they recommend you leave it be, I'd just wash my face with water only when I could throughout the day, maybe reapplying some lotion on the extra flaky spots, then repeat that every 12 hours or so, the dryness never got all that bad, but my skin is pretty oily as a baseline so that may have helped me personally
Don't do it OP. For every proclaimed success story there are twenty testimonials warning you to steer clear of minox. Finasteride should also be avoided but that's less applicable for beard growthers.
I have yet to find a non-supplement/chemical way to incite beard hair growth, but my two cents is that I'd rather keep my luscious locks than go bald for a beard I'll develop naturally anyway.

Aromatase inhibitors will lower your estrogen hence increase your DHT and maybe give you a beard. But erase the hair off your scalp.
yes it does work and i did get beard gains
but it gave me heart palpitations and i felt like i was going to keel over so i stopped using it and lost all my beard gains
I literally tried this two weeks ago. I stopped about six days in because it caused extremely dry skin on the parts of my face that I applied it to. No skin dryness issues on my actual hairline where I also apply it.

yes it works. i used to only have some chin coverage and baby hairs growing on my cheeks

You have really nice coverage on your chin. Was it like this before? Filling out the chin area and connectors is the hardest.
nope, it was less full. it could be that the minoxidil kickstarted the beard growth which i would have gotten anyway, i was 20 when i started it.
you’re right about the chin and connector area. admittedly i’m still not 100% satisfied, my mustache isn’t as defined and ideally i would want zero empty spots.
I would give you real advice but morons are already throwing you off track and the less people that looksmax the better it is for me.
