Don't skip leg day bro. Top heavy vehicles are shit because they roll over too easily. Strengthen your core, support your core. Support your upper body with your lower body.
Ppl say to me “your arms are big, how much do you bench bro”
I don’t bench lol they would probably be smaller if I gave two shits about bench. Benching is just a way to impress normies with a decent number for one rep max, if you are not trying to be a power lifter you do not have to bench. So tired of of ppl acting like benching is the only way to grow and the only standard of strength. Bench is still a good lift but easily the most overrated.
“If you wanna get big you must bench 5 sets of three and half ass your isolations, nothing else will work”
enlight us, I'm still a newbie and the benches is always occupied so i just do knee push-ups, easy pull ups and some random chest machines on 14 lb sth. Can I subtitute bench completely?
Just don't let your ego take over and focus on controlling the weight. Don't even bother with a weight that you can't at least do 10 SLOW and controlled reps with. Literally just try one set of 10 and count each rep's descent to 4 seconds. Thank me later
It's just to have him practice an exaggerated set. If he's lifting with his shoulders then this will help him feel his chest guaranteed. Once he knows how to lift with his chest he'll be able to go from there
this is terrible advice if you actually care about getting stronger, the descent only needs to be slow enough for you to keep tight and maintain the bar path
you never want to do slow a concentric in either case

There's very little reason to do a bench press beyond some light rep work with it. There are a ton of alternatives that do a lot less damage to your body. Going heavy on bench for 99% of lifters is pointless and doing it at all isn't even necessary if you want chest growth.
>damage from bench
???
Lat pulldown puts tension on the eccentric, different tension curve

The lat pull-down is the most useless exercise because any man should be able to do pull-ups and they’re just better. Like if you can do a single pull-up you’re almost maxing out most commercial cable machines and you get to a threshold where you’re literally too strong to even start the exercise because you have to put in 225+ start at which case you literally can’t even sit down unless you’re obese
I agree bench is for posers and a waste of gym time. I usually work back, legs, shoulders and arms in the gym then do 100 pushups on my off days for push gains. Looking at my logbook I haven't touched a bench press since 11-11-23 and then it was low weight high reps for endurance.
Bench is great. All the bad rep it gets is because fools turn it into a shoulder exercise instead of one for your chest. I always ignored it, but this year I realised u gotta Bench if u want the b***hes. Now I'm making sick gains and always look forward to it

I wonder if people who started lifting around the same time are coming to the same realizations around the same time or if I've just been blind to the truth. I also just realized how to train chest on bench, I've been lifting on and off for almost two years now. Hbu?
Joocy pecs are very aesthetic and it's a fun lift. Of the big 4 it feels the furthest from snap city for me as well so I unambiguously enjoy it. When I do the other three, particularly squat, blowing my fricking knees out or destroying my back are lurking in the back of my head. Bench is just LIGHT WEIGHT BABY
Bench is the ultimate dyel filter because their back is so underdeveloped they literally cant hold a proper arch thus going straight to snap city with even modest weight
Bench Press is good as a moron filter because they all snap their shoulders and stop lifting at some point. Happened to the local gymtard just last week.
Lmao I remember this guy I used to be friends with got into lifting and immediately got obsessed with getting his bench up. He just wanted to train his bench and pull ups. He wanted to reach 2pl8 on bench so bad that he would regularly have to lift his ass off the bench and struggle for dear life on his last rep of every set. Sure enough he started getting loads of injuries and just made due with the ugly tinder hoe he was able to get due to his financial situation
I was going to friend's gym for some time and bench press was the most inscrutable for me.
It seems like one of the most important things is to bench a lot, while also making sure you do it as easy for yourself, as possible, doing a bridge, pushing with your legs, using some weird equipment. I just don't get it, aren't you supposed to be lifting it with your chest? I'd rather lift less, but more efficiently during workout, than ego lift like that...
I think I will forever hate bench press because I had to spot him every time.
DYEL cope. You need a strong back to have a good bench. The two are inexorably linked. Your back is weak and your chest is weak, simple as. >210x8 flat bench >90x8 DB bench
Bench is my favorite exercise, its the most fun, it gives me big arms and big pecs, it makes me feel good and people always mires my bench in the gym. This thread was made by a benchlet contrarian.
Hey anons, are plate-loaded chest press machines worse than regular barbell bench press? I feel safer working with machines tho so I'm not afraid of adding more weight and doing more reps with them but the movement doesn't feel very natural compared to bench presses.
But are they really that much worse in terms of body development and strength? Because honestly, I'm too afraid of injuring myself so I 'd rather prefer to ignore bench presses entirely if possible.
In a home gym and no spotter scenario, which is better, lighter barbell with more reps or heavy ass dumbells? The latter? Would that mean it's possible to substitute barbell press with dumbell press?
Squats
>grinds your shoulders into dust
heh nothing personnel
your shoulders into dust
you're doing it wrong
deadlift, squat
Can't.
nah
Squats, deadlifts, any lower body barbell compound
decline bench
If its so useless I just might
Post body
homosexual alert
dyel alert

The only people that squat in my gym are girls
All the chads and big guys do upper body
Don't skip leg day bro. Top heavy vehicles are shit because they roll over too easily. Strengthen your core, support your core. Support your upper body with your lower body.
What is actually wrong with squats?
Ppl say to me “your arms are big, how much do you bench bro”

>Can I subtitute bench completely?
You can but it's suboptimal. If you can bench, do bench. It's the most efficient use of time.
Thanks, I'll keep it in mind.
push ups and dips

Do not count to 4, that’s moronic.

Show chest.

You not heard of gravity?
o.o i like bench press
Makes me happy, all that's needed to validate it.

Post body.
Been benching over a decade and my shoulders are fine.

im 158lbs but the machine goes to like 250 lbs tho
Lat pulldown puts tension on the eccentric, different tension curve
You can do this on pull ups to moron, just control and go slow on the way down
Actually I used to use them to do one hand pulldowns back when I couldn't do one handed pullups
Off to a bad start. Anyways, deadlifts
And decline bench press since lower chest muscle doesn't exist
the point is to remove the front delts from the equation.

most useless functionally but u built a big chest which looks alpha
OHP is probably a better press movement

It's fun but db's are superior
You're not living if you're not maxing out on bench every week
Bench is the ultimate dyel filter because their back is so underdeveloped they literally cant hold a proper arch thus going straight to snap city with even modest weight
This, until you get good at bench, the hardest part is keeping your scapula pulled back into proper position
actual answer: shrugs

They are better for focused hypertrophy of pecs, but worse for "balanced" and "overall" strength.

Just do dumbbells (flat and incline) to make your chest grow. Barbell fricks your shit up
