New Year's resolutions check in

So it's 3 weeks into the new year how are you doing with your New Year's resolutions?

I always give myself kind of vague resolution so I don't need to be super strict because then it's too easy to say that I messed it up so there's no point continuing

This year my resolutions are
1. get back into swimming
2. Continue my 10,000 steps a day which I have done for over 3 years now
3. Pass the comp Tia Network plus exam
4. Change up my lifting regime into something more enjoyable so I will be more consistent with it than I was last year
5. Clean my apartment at least to the point that when I bring home twinks from Grindr or Jak'D I'm not embarrassed when they see my house

I found a gym on top of this mountain

When giving yourself New Year's resolutions don't give yourself incredibly strict ones if possible. For instance if you bench press 100 kilos and you want to bench press 140 kilos don't make 140 kilos your goal. Make your goal to bench press more.

If you can run 5 km in 25 minutes and you want to run it in 20 minutes don't make that your goal just make your goal to be consistent with your running and to get a faster time.

The only reason to be strict is if you need specific numbers for a job or a competition or some real reason.

It's also important not to punish yourself if you fail your resolution at some point. The goal is to run 5 km three times a week and one day you feel really sick and you can't run for two or three weeks that's not a good excuse to just cancel the whole resolution. You should get back into it when you can because running 5 km three times a week 40 weeks of the year is a lot better than doing it for 0 weeks of the year.

Poor advice. Set yourself realistic goals but make them specific and quantifiable, otherwise you don't know if you actually achieved them or not. Wooly shit like "improve fitness" can mean anything depending on how you measure it.

And it doesn't automatically follow that failure is a reason to beat yourself up. Aim for the stars, even if you fall short you'll have reached the moon.

Mine were simply improve my cardio and lose bf% both are going well. To all the resolution haters time is a canvas to weave on and it worked out well to wait until after Christmas and NYE celebrations to start aggressively cutting.

        True
I'm still getting over my ex and I'm just using that as an excuse to give me time to work on myself. Honestly I just don't feel like pursuing anyone right now

It appears to me that you are a gigantic homosexual, since you can not tolerate discomfort towards yourself. Setting specific goals IS the number one factor to success in your new year's resolutions. Failure is not bad. Failure teaches you to keep going.

this lukewarm behaviour........... can get you far if you stick with it, BUT it will be much slower, tbqh

I started working out with this type of mental cope, and it worked to get me to stick with it, but I wasted quite literally 2 years and barely being halfway where I wanted

I haven't planned them, just any 10. I won't tell you which one I'm reading now because someone will spoil it. However, the other one I'm reading in parallel is Global Economic History by Robert C. Allen.

Fair. I’ll have to look into Global Economic History, thanks for mentioning it. If you’re into that topic, there’s a few good ones I can recommend.

              It’s mostly the classics, but:
              Adam Smith, Wealth of Nations
              Nicolas Oresme, De Moneta
Guido Hülseman, The Ethics of Money Production
Murray Rothbard, Anatomy of the State
              Ludwig von Mieses, Human Action
              Eichenberger, How global Currencies work

And if you’re interested in crypto, Saifedean Amous, The Bitcoin Standard and Principles of Economics.

For me it was more about gaining the means to start than starting specifically during the new year, but alas
    >start working out again
I have been pretty consistent, and have gotten stronger
    >get a part time job and keep at it
    started on the third
    >make more connections with strangers
    >find a girl to fall in love with
    >learn to cook more good food
    >get back to language learning
    >get consistent at learning to draw
