I've competed at judo (green belt). Even against black-belts, if you don't "play their game" they won't be able to do shit. That's why it's Shido to be hunched over in competition. I'm not baiting.

Then you competed against shitty black-belts. The main problem with belt system is that the belt does not really indicate your skill (either in judo, or BJJ). The system of degrees in ex-Soviet countries works much better when to get a black-belt you must have a degree of candidate-master which means taking at least bronze in state championship and win at least 3 randoris during this championship.

Dunno how it works in seppostan but here in ausfailia you have the earn points through wins in competition to get judo black belt

              Anonymous

sounds good and pretty similar. However, the main difference here is that you can't win 10 low-level competitions and earn required number of points. You need to win high-level competitions to earn a degree. In either case it is much better than BJJ, when the coach can give you a blue belt because you trained for 5 years

No, techniques in bjj and grapling originated from judo. The Olympic judo rules prohibited groundwork because they want to make it look nice and dynamic. And most people find bjj style grapling boring.

        Anonymous

        >And most people find bjj style grapling boring.
this, IIRC the early days of UFC had fewer rules and were dominated by BJJ, but it became a meme how boring it was watching dudes grapple like that, so they changed the rules to nerf BJJ

      >it's prohibited to hunch or take a "wrestling" stance in comp because none of your techniques would work
It's prohibited because the Olympic Comité decided it would look too much like wrestling otherwise.

        >The OIC was the worst thing that could've happened to Eastern martial arts.
the worst thing that happened to eastern martial arts was coming into contact with the West and getting its shit pushed in.

          Anonymous

Not really, no. A lot of Eastern martial arts are actually quite recent, and some developed in reaction to the West. The reverse also happened, kickboxing changed forever after Rick Roofus got whooped by Muay Thai low kicks. Kyokushin karate also developed in reaction to Muay Thai and kickboxing. Hell, even "old-school" karate took its kicks from Savate.

Go on YouTube and watch what happens when a kung fu guys fights and actual MMA fighter. There is literally hundreds of videos

Judo isn't Kung Fu though. Sanda is, and Sanda fighters do pretty well in K1. The kung-fu masters you see on YouTube usually don't spar because the CCP doesn't want to encourage violence. In Bruce Lee's words, they're trying to learn how to swim on dry land. This is also why Sanda does work: full contact sparring means you either filter out the bullshit or you never stop losing.

              >Ignoring the fact that a lot of big names like Connor McGregor, GSP, Wonderboy Thompson, Bas Rutten and the Machida brothers have a foundation in karate
The only western styles that fare well are wrestling and Dutch kickboxing, with the latter heavily borrowing from Muay Thai and kyokushin karate. Even taekwondo does quite well, but usually as a supplement to Muay Thai rather than as a base/foundation.

I guess there's also Savate, but that's rarely represented in mma because it's obscure (and underrated). So that makes three western styles that fare well.

the real reason to do judo or another martial art with a competitive element is that just lifting weights is fricking boring after a few years. sparring and competing is much, much more fun than just picking things up and putting them down. training to get in bar fights or whatever moronic scenario people armchair theorize about happening is for fools with nothing to lose

Actual krav maga is just a self-defense system for IDF soldiers, it isn't some fancy John Wick gun Kata, they'd get about as much training in unarmed combat as any other military, the truth is unarmed combat is an afterthought for most militaries throughout history, firstly weapons are better at killing, secondly there's the reality of martial arts causing brain damage, and lastly only the most rudimentary moves from structured rules based martial arts actually translate to unarmed combat in reality, and this is usually a means of gaining the initiative so you can end up brutalizing your enemy with an eye gouge or a little genital mutilation.

Lol, judogays are the weaker ones between the martial artists. Wrestlers put up massive numbers in the bar, even in the lighter weight classes, they push a alot and have strong arms. Bjj guys are the same. But judogays are only strong in pulling motions. Judo practicioners don't bench, squat or deadlift. They pull pull pull (no deadlift). Even bjj guys have better strenght. Judo is mostly leverage-play

I am naturally immune to judo, as I am always naked and completely soaked in grease. Good luck.

I think the main issue with Asian martial arts is that most of the ones people actually practice have point systems whereas to avoid actually getting hurt while the prototypical Western martial arts are made such that you win by subduing the other guy. Because of this 90% of Asian martial arts experience means nothing.
To be clear I'm not saying there aren't martial arts from Asia that don't involve getting hit for real, just that most of what regular people actually practice excludes taking real hits and some low income nig who's learnt a few boxing tricks by bare knuckling it with the boys will hard mog most Asian practitioners just by the merit he's experienced real fighting.
Also judo is blatantly not worthwhile.

It's hilarious you think that because a Muay Thai practitioner would destroy a boxer, and a Judoka would destroy a wrestler.
      Many such cases

Westerners had to put boxing gloves on the thais because they were literally coating their knuckles in glass and killing each other for fun

Lmao these threads always drag out the most insecure homos on the site.
    >m-m-muh famous professional fighter
skill gap doesn't overcome brute strength until you're at least competing at a state level.
You white collar homosexuals punching the 9-5 clock and doing an hour of pajama play a week so you can walk around imagining you're a secret weapon? You're a joke.
Seething that if only women knew you could beat up their bodybuilder boyfriends then you would be getting pussy. Protip. You can't. You're not that guy and you never will be. Stop watching gay action movies and pretending you're some kind of hand to hand monster. Literally just start picking heavy shit up you larping troons.

You're simply not aware of the unfair advantage that MMA training in parts after 6 months to a year of regular sessions.

        >after 6 months to a year of regular sessions.
        And there it is again.
        >6 months to a year
        >"regular sessions"
Whatever the frick that means, right?
An hour a day with a former pro?
An hour a week with poser who's been posing slightly longer than you?
But this is the ego they sell you chumps. The same one every delusion-cult martial arts school has relied on for centuries. The "we are, therefore I am" cult.
"Judokas have iron grips, and I am a judoka therefore I have an iron grips".
"MMA fighters are dangerous and I am an MMA fighter therefore I am dangerous".
And everybody in the room circle jerks each other because that's the code.
        "We are, therefore I am..."

And no, the mentality you are describing doesn't last long in an MMA gym because the moment you start sparring you will get your ass kicked and it sucks and you either choose to get better or you quit.
I've seen tons of people quit just because their ego got hurt.

            >because the moment you start sparring you will get your ass kicked
What age do most people actually start practicing martial arts? I started at like around 6 so this whole humility issue for sparring doesn't make sense to me.

Any age but you get muscle heads and gangbangers coming into the gym trying to prove something and getting their asses handed to them by a skinny 16 year old and they never come back. Those types either choose to make it a life style or just drop the whole thing the first time they get their ass kicked.

Judo takes the most important part of wrestling (the takedowns) and perfects them, Judo also has way better ground work. SORRY! Wrestling is a homosexual sport through-and-through.

Bros I used to go to an MMA gym and really liked it. I loved the combo of judo and BJJ, so synergistic. I moved and now there’s only a BJJ gym near me. Would a gym likely also integrate other arts like judo in their pure BJJ classes?
