Why do jannies keep deleting the hair loss general threads? We could have an FAQ consistently posted that addresses every question and every argument about to be posed in this thread.
To give my 2 cents, finasteride is well-studied and has been around for a long time and is very safe. There is a 1-3% chance of contracting erectile dysfunction, but in the vast majority (>99%) of such cases, you simply stop taking finasteride and your erections return to normal.
Some people have reported symtpoms persisting after cessation, but such people were often older than 40 or obese to begin with.
You can expect a shedding phase, which you will begin to recover from 6 months after starting usage, after which you can expect a cessation of hair loss or modest gains.
Because it's not directly fit related, it probably belongs on IST
>Some people have reported symtpoms persisting after cessation, but such people were often older than 40 or obese to begin with.
Actually, most PFS studies show it's more common in younger men, like 20s and 30s, compared to older men
Can this reverse thin (not bald) hair
Yes, it can thicken individual hair follicles and produce more in thinning areas. 70% reported noticeable hair growth in 2 years
do topical finasteride, it only has to function on the scalp where it gets absorbed, so theres no reason to take a pill systemically where DHT has useful functions
Topical finasteride does still go systemic, but to a less degree, and lowers significant amounts of DHT
The harsh truth is, there's no consensus. Yes, most studies show finasteride is usually safe, but the fact is that persistent side effects do occur and we have no treatment. So it's a big risk
>Yes, it can thicken individual hair follicles and produce more in thinning areas. 70% reported noticeable hair growth in 2 years
with just fin? i thought you needed min too
Good question. So actually, finasteride actually results in better regrowth that minoxidil. Minoxidil's real purpose is actually to slow hair loss, only around half of men get regrowth and it's pretty minor. Finasteride results in more hair regrowth in more men, nearly 70% in two years will get more regrowth than minoxidil. Of course, they can be used together for the greatest benefit, but minoxidil won't stop hair loss like finasteride will, only slow it down.
Minoxidil (if you're a responder, which like you said, only half of men are) is the GOAT for regrowth BUT like you said it doesn't actually prevent hair loss, so eventually the DHT rapes your follicles beyond the point where even minox can save them.
Personally I'm a nonresponder to min so I just use fin. I'm starting to see recovery from my initial shed.
how long did it take you to recover? I'm only 2 months in but I'm taking 1mg 3x per week and I keep getting stressed about if I should up the dosage to 1mg daily
Fin is for slowing hair loss, dutasteride close to full stops it and minoxidil is to make your hair fuller, thicker and also obviously helps slow down hair loss but not as good as fin.

Works. Stop if suicidal thoughts persist (they are quite fricked on Fin). When you pop one of the capsules the goo inside looks extremely like it’s poisonous.

doesn't matter how it enters your body, finasteride will effect it the same way even if it enters the blood through skin absorption or by being metabolized by the liver. same with minoxidil, topical application isn't any different and you're just lowering your effective dose and getting worse results in the end.
>Now that the dust has mostly settled, what’s the verdict on pic related?
it's better and cheaper to just take dutasteride, take one 0.5mg pill per day for a few months to reach steady state then reduce to 2-3 pills per week.
Been taking 1.25mg a day for about 2 years, friend of mine for over 3. We both still have our hair, it got more dense again and neither of us has had any problems (like my sex drive is still through the roof). Though I'd wager we both do not have low t levels, so if you do maybe be more careful.
Same. Though I take 0.5mg a day since finasteride is expensive a shit here and I'm a poorgay. My friend has been on it for years. No problems at all for either of us.
I think the ones that get problems with it were already fatass/depressed/low-t to begin with.
>1mg
a little overkill in most cases
Show me one study backing this up

Then why do threads like this get to stay up?

I'm on 2mg a day for 8 months and have seen zero improvement

Helped me very much, no brain fog. Not a full recovery but it is a long road. Dont wait too much

trans rights are human rights, chuddy boy
So 1mg a day is too much?
Idk I have good hair but I'm taking it with my morning sups just to be safe and it seems fine

Dutasteride has countless anecdotes where it made people worse, very few results to be seen from just dut on reddit

Do people do minoxidil directly after microneedling or a day after?
I bet there is at least one person on fit that takes both fin and test and this is just too fricking funny for me.
I wish there was a good amount of before and after pics that arent taken (and therefore edited or hair fiberss added) by sales companies
