the benefit that you get whilst exercising your brain to learn a language or a poem is more so than learning a poem itself. you're reprogramming a brain to create new neural pathways that will make you more intelligent. this is why you learn pythagoras theorem and seemingly stupid shit at school. it trains your brain to not be fricking stupid and post shit like this. congrats, you're a brainlet with a google

Oh yeah that guy. How's he doing anyway?

    >What excuse can we afford a man who, taking monthly payments from some thirty-something patrons, produces no product for their dégustation?

    >It is said that the greater part of a writer’s time is spent in reading, and that he may turn over a whole library in order to produce a single article; that his patron, while he receives nothing, pays instead for that period of gestation.

    >All this is true, but so long an absence from (his blog) has a more substantial excuse, and it is that I was for almost two months imprisoned for state benefit fraud.

    >I detailed some months ago how I went about this, and in doing so sealed my own fate. The article was not long after discovered by my Employment Coach who, morally outraged by my crime, and offended by the unflattering portrait which I had made her, swiftly reported me to the authorities.

tl;dr he was taking welfare benefits without telling the state about his meager writing income and got caught. Dude definitely qualifies for a "Could lifting have saved him?" thread.

Anyone who lifts knows this to be right, just can't accept it because of ego.
If you push yourself to accomplish something all your time is for that goal. Losing weight, getting fit, etc... is a full time endeavour. Same with studying to be an A student or trying to be a good pianist.
If you are lucky there is something you center your life around, as most people do, and the rest it's secondary or complementary to that. Family, job, hobbies,drugs,... I'm not saying you can't get fit while being learned, I'm saying that if pressed to leave one of the two for the other, you already knew what to drop.

Sorta, like I wish I would have brought my bike sooner instead of "focusing on the gym".
There are some things I wish I would have done earlier instead of being a gym rat, like playing volley more, going outdoors more, but I'm too much of a social pariah, the gym was a comfy shelter. Glad I woke up though and I'm no longer 100% gym focused. Less gains, strength went don't but I really don't care about it as much as I did. There are other activities that are worth doing.
Not to say the gym is bad, it's been a sanctuary for me for years, decades. But it's ultimately a place to evolve out of, like some sort of butterfly out of a cocoon.

If you dont like to travel, then sure it would be a waste of time. But many people do want experience other countries and their cultures outside of designated tourist areas, and only 17% of people in the world can speak english. Even knowing basic spanish or arabic opens up many new parts of the world that were off limits outside of designated tourist areas and resorts

        Anonymous

I've traveled to probably around 80 different countries. I only speak 2 languages. It would be almost impossible to know the languages/dialects of all of these cultures. Traveling is not a reason to learn a language. If you plan on going somewhere longterm (a year or more), or it's someplace you plan to visit very frequently, then you mat benefit from learning their native tongue. Otherwise, you are a tourist.
