Only one way of eating has ever been proven to reverse heart disease in the majority of patients: a diet centered around whole plant foods. If that’s all a whole-food, plant-based diet could do—reverse our number-one killer—shouldn’t that be the default diet until proven otherwise?

The fact it may also be effective in preventing, treating, and arresting other leading killers seems to make the case for plant-based eating simply overwhelming.

dog are you for real? Did you do absolutely zero research on what you were embarking on or what happened? You do realize that eating saturated fats will frick your blood lipids and this has nothing to do with whether you eat whole foods or not, right? Inb4 the ketolards and carnivore morons screech and holler in response to this; anyone who is genetically disposed to higher cholesterol will convert saturated fats excessively into cholesterol and their blood lipids will get fricked. Some people don't have an issue, but lots do. And believe it or not, dietary cholesterol has little bearing on blood cholesterol

      t. limited saturated fats for 6 months and went from high high hypercholesterolemia to well within the normal range

Also did you limit your total fat intake?

back then I ate bacon and animal fat in large amounts, but I was also just generally eating in large amounts because I was a permabulker. Nuking your insulin levels and blood sugar like that contributes to dyslipidemia, plus I was also a heavy drinker (2-3 nights a week) and this significantly worsened my liver function--- liver is responsible for maintaining blood lipids, so anything you do that impairs liver function, like drinking or drugs, will have a negative effect on your lipids. So it was lots of saturated fats + excessive caloric intake + higher bodyweight + heavy drinking.

I've made several large changes over the years which has kept me healthy. For one, I don't eat much animal fat. I haven't eliminated it from my diet, but I eat leaner meats, I don't eat red meats often and almost no processed meats, I have lowfat cottage cheese and greek yogurt, and don't use butter often. I stick to olive oil and avocado oil. FYI not all vegetable oils are created equal, and some are not great for you or are downright bad for you, so you have to do your homework. But most significantly my overall caloric intake is much lower than it used to be, I have much longer fasted periods, and I am about 25lbs lighter--- this alone is good for general health and insulin sensitivity, but it also means my fat intake is lower overall, saturated and unsaturated alike. I also stopped drinking 3 years ago and I am way healthier and feeling much better overall for it.

The only issue is carbs. If you eat meat till you hit your protein and fill up on some veggies you will be maxxed out. Keto doesn't incorporate veggies which is why it is not sustainable.

Veggies nearly ubiquitously have carbs you mouth breather thus keto cannot consume them. Avoid starch.

Well, yeah. Newborns eat nothing but milk. That works well for a few years. Different life stages. But after a certain age, animal products may no longer be very beneficial, and might even be harmful.

  12. 10 months ago

Vegan diets haven't been "proven" to do anything valid, OP. Even vegans get heart disease, die of heart attacks and cancer, and all the rest.
You can't outrun your genetics. HOWEVER, you can get healthier by eating a diet that doesn't suck. BUT, that doesn't mean you have to eat vegan, just that you have to stop eating shitty goyslop all the fricking time and learn 2 nutrition.
There are plenty of fat and sickly vegans out there, I used to work in the vegan retail products biz and know firsthand how many fat fricks "eat vegan" and look like dogshit whose health is certainly far from ideal.

To be fair, Greger looked just as bad when I met him at the Animal Rights Conference a few times almost 20 years ago, he looked like he was in his 50s when he was still only about 30 years old.
But, he's always looked like complete shit, that is not to be questioned.

        Anonymous

that's fair tbh. Some people look old as frick even young. There is a clip of Gordon Ramsey at 19 and the bloke looks 35

          Anonymous

But, you'd THINK that if his vegan diet was so amazing, he'd actually look a bit better over the years, and here we are, no improvement whatsoever, just a skinnyfat baldlet same as he ever was.

          Anonymous

That's because being a professional chef ages you as much as a warzone.

          Anonymous

Not really, I think it's because Gordon Ramsay got famous late in life and so when we see him young we associate him with the image of old Gordon Ramsay.

It can also be because he hit his apex in life at an old age, and thus throughout his early life there is a sense of aging to him because he still hasn't hit his apex and is thus evolving in a strive to reach it. A lot of people tend to mantain their looks and personality from when they first hit their apex.

I've only eaten vegetables and local eggs for 15 years. lets get this over with
    >I feel great
    >It's much harder to eat right, you cant just 'eat' like when I ate meat, need them proteins
    >I wish people didn't eat farm meat and everyone was a hunter, which is based. Reason? Animal gets to live free until it doesn't.
    >I don't tell people what to do or preach out of context.
    >If I had a kid they would eat meat until they could choose to figure out their own food, like my dog, who eats butchered meat I prep

    any questions?

  15. 10 months ago

I don't even believe vegans are real and no one can convince me otherwise.

  16. 10 months ago

I use to believe the argument that the best diet is the one our ancestors ate for millennia, which was predominantly carnivore.
Then I started thinking that humans back then were in the mode of "survive long enough to reproduce, and live long enough for children to be able to fend for themselves, then die so as not to waste valuable resources of the tribe". At that stage of the human species, it was more about increasing the population and survival to early adulthood, rather than having an extended lifespan well past reproduction to 100 years +.
So carnivore might be optimal for that but not optimal for extended lifespan that we want in the present time.
It's like how milk is the optimal food for all young mammals for rapid growth and development. But if you drank an all milk diet for life it might not be good for an extended lifespan.

We evolved from great apes. All most all of them are herbivores.

The development of being able to eat meat was most likely a last resort like ketosis. Not the norm.

Even the great apes preferentially eat meat when they can get it.
