That's probably because they're healthier. You generally need more sleep the unhealthier you are. You can also make sleep more efficient, resulting in even less time needed.

Your performance can be drastically hindered assuming your body doesn't get the sleep it wants in that time. Sleep deprivation is similar to drunkenness in this regard.

Those who sleep more than 8 hours usually have a very bad quality of sleep. They never fall into deep sleep or rem sleep. Ofc they die at higher rates. They just aimlesly lie in bed and call that sleeping.
So 8 hour sleepers are mostly a mix of people who actually sleep and don't sleep at all.
All in all, the conclusion and the study are both bs and tel us tgat sleeping for 7 hours is better than for 4 hours. That's all.
