People who use their progress as a reference to undermine you

"You can't be lifting only X kg in Y months of practice, I was lifting heavier than you for less time"

"What the hell did you do in X months of practice? I had a better physique than you for half the practice time"

Why do people use their own progress as the ultimate reference? Can't you see that not everyone starts from the same point and progresses at the same speed as you? Do you think the world revolves around you?

Arrogance is a common human trait OP. Some fat frick gets fit and then laughs at skellies who struggle with empty bar. It is what it is

What I can't understand is that people think that just because they've made such and such progress over such and such a period of time, it must be the case for everyone else, and that if they deviate from it (for better or worse progress, but it's often when it's worse that they express their criticism), then something must be wrong. Self-proclaimed reference.

So what are your numbers? Bench, OHP, Dead, Squat. And how long you've been lifting. Let's see it.

A year and a half (I started in September 2022). 65 Bench, 30 OHP, 80 Deadlift (I only started this exercise a month ago), 110 Squat

Fricking lucky c**t. Took me 3 years to get up to 115KG squat. And that's for 1 See? What are you whining about, you're doing better than some of us in just one year. Whatever.

You, you are talking about Kilograms, right?

30KG OHP is pretty shitty. Barley above the empty bar. Get on that. Greyskull LP, alternate it Mon Wed Fri with Bench. Bench is doing alright. Your Dead in one month is hardly worth commenting on. Just make sure you're going up 10lbs until 100KG, then lower it down to 5lbs. Don't be a greedy frick. You try 10lbs after that point, you'll just waste your time. Your squat is very good, assuming it is indeed a deep squat and not some bullshit.

You're closing in on being an intermediate lifter. Time to start thinking about accessories.

I'm bad in general on the upper body, and I'm surprised that you think 65kg in the bench after a year and a half is good, because the bench press is kind of the exercise that everyone does and where everyone goes with their little comment on the speed of progress, the load... and IST has often been pretty adamant on this subject: 65kg in 1 year and a half, it's very bad.

What I didn't mention is that between September 2023 and January 2024, I didn't follow a classic routine but one focused on mind-muscle connection. To put it simply, by August 2023 I'd reached one year of practice and I could never feel my muscles during my workout. Some people told me this was abnormal, even worrying. So I tried to rectify this with an online coach who gave me a routine focused on feeling your muscles, slow tempos, lighter loads, etc.. It wasn't very effective on me, so I went back to a normal program in January 2024, but as a result I'd lost a lot of strength, and I took a month to get it all back.

Maybe it was a scam, but people around me keep saying that feeling your muscles is crucial, and I still can't feel them.

Dude, it took me 3 years to get 85 for 5 bench and that's what, only 40 pounds more than you? People are talking out of their arse on the internet. When you get some douche saying he benched 220lbs age 16, either he's lying or what he really means is he bloatfarted it up for 1 rep with his fat ass because chances are you're talking to an obese American. Don't forget too that our thing is infested with cheating roidtrannies.

Anyway, don't worry about that shit. Just wait until you get your first real injury, kid. Then you can watch all your hard earned strength evaporate into nothingness like it just got Thanos snapped. And plateaus too, those are a real b***h.

I'm not American, I'm French. In France, roiding is probably less widespread than in the United States, or at least people won't talk about it as openly, and we may have to deal more with liars than in the United States, where I suppose the practice is more accepted and therefore people talk about it more easily. But let me reassure you: we also have people in France (sometimes very young, not even 18 years old) who claim to have achieved extraordinary weights in less than a year, with of course the aesthetic physique that goes with it.

There are certainly a lot of roiders out there, but there are also sincere people with just the right genetics. There's a sort of selection bias, or survivor bias, I'm not sure how to call it: those who expose themselves on the Internet are likely to be those for whom lifting has paid off, those for whom it's easy, and so on. The galley slaves with shitty genetics and less-than-stellar final results won't expose themselves, because they'll be lynched.

You haven't even told us what ur height and weight is.
            I started lifting in January 2023, could only bench the bar, I was 5'6 130lbs (167cm 60kg) I'm 150lbs (70kg) now.
I was extremely skinnyfat and weak, my 1rm bench is 80kg and I can 70kg for 5, I mostly do dumbbell overhead press but last time I checked my 1rm for OHP was 40kg, Squat is 2pl8 and Deadlift is 2pl8 (all for 5 reps but I mostly do RDLs instead of conventional deadlifts).
I believe I can reach a 2pl8 bench this year, my lower body is lagging behind because I neglected it for a while, like doing legs once a week.

Also just to add to this, the only people benching 2 plates at my gym (which I can count on my hand) are both roiders, in 1 year of lifting I've only seen it once a 3 plate bench and it was a 40yo dude who's been lifting for 2 decades and does dbol and cruises on test.
I refuse to believe IST lies when they say they are benching that much.

Now that's something I don't agree with. Before I started lifting, people online would tell me "don't worry, at the gym most people don't lift much, they're just starting out, it won't take you long to catch up".

Since I started the gym, I've been doing bench press twice a week. I started with the empty bar (20kg), and as I said I'm at 65kg 1 year later. I can count on one hand the times I've seen boys lift less than that. Only 2 times have I seen a boy lift less than 40kg. Most of the boys I see in the gyms I go to (I mainly frequent 2, which are low-cost mainstream gyms in small towns, so we're not talking about prestigious gyms in Paris for example) lift between 80 and 100kg.

I'm 175cm 74kg and I was 65kg when I started, I bet you'll tell me to eat more, which I really try to do. (according to the calculators I have to eat a little over 3000kcal to gain weight, which seems enormous to me). Unfortunately, I've never been someone with a big appetite, and lifting hasn't changed much in that respect.

yea you gotta eat more. sucks but it is wat it is. if you aren't gaining try to shoot for 3200-3500. switching to a 3 or 4 day program would probably help as well, i noticed I didnt gain weight as fast on PPL when I was doing SS or PHUL.

Yeah some people just dont realize how bad some peoples starting bodies are

My starting body is was so fricking terrible (text book skinnyfat, low test) that my body after 2-3 years of lifting was what most guys START lifting with who have a normal body + normal test

They dont see how bad the starting position was for me compared to them and don't realize how some guys are just cursed with LOW T and will NEVER have a "muscular" look without steroids

The problem is that morons here don't tell their weight and height when talking about numbers.
Black folk that are 100kg at 6'4 lifting 2pl8 bench in a month isn't impressive compared to a manlet benching 1pl8 at 5'6 130lbs.
Tl:Dr ur 1/2/3/4 doesn't mean shit if ur literally lifting ur own weight, you should be 2/3/4/5 minimum.

It's impossible to have a good conversation about this on an anonymous image board. Sometimes you really do just need a reality check for having bad progress and that comes from comparison to other people, but also a lot of people on here just make things up or omit the fact that they're 50 pounds heavier than you or something like that. You're OHPing 30kg after a year and a half lifting so I think you need a reality check.
