So I’m going to have to quit this shit after only 3 months, hopefully it hasn’t done any permanent damage, it didn’t even clear my acne yet. Anyone have other ideas how to get rid of acne? I have been thinking of trying an extreme elimination diet like beef only but don’t know where to start. Acne has been my biggest insecurity for 10 years now and it’s safe to say it has limited me severely in life.
why do you have to quit?
I have a bunch of sides like worse depression, muscles take long to recover, my libido tanked and I don’t feel much in my dick, recently my knees and shoulders started to feel funny too. I could deal with all of this for a few more months, but I can’t deal with the extreme headaches I started to get every morning recently.
Just reduce you dosage. The way accutane is prescribed is antiquated and unnecessary.
How old are you ? This class of medicines fuses growth plates prematurely.
Do the headaches come with nausea/vision issues? If they do that's actually pretty fricked and could be a sign of intracranial hypertension. Consider getting your eyes checked for pressure.
Use topical retinoids if the systematic effects are too much. Retinoids have anti-androgen effects which is what you want in your skin, androgens cause excess sebum secretions in skin, but systematically it can have the negative low-test effects you are experiencing. As a cream it will almost entirely stay in your skin where you want it. The third generation topical retinoids like adapalene/differin are the least likely to have the unwanted side effects.
Same thing with vitamin A? I didn't know about the anti androgenic sides and I've been mega dosing vitamin A... gonna stop now because test is more valuable than skin.b
>depression
Who cares, it's temporary and you should realize it's just a side
>muscles take long to recover
You're dehydrated
>libido tanked
You're nuking your liver so that's a given, you basically have whiskey dick for 6 months, deal with it
>muh joints
Bullshit
>muh headaches
You're dehydrated
Imagine being so weak willed you can't tank 6 months of slightly decreased QoL in exchange for flawless vampire skin for life. You aren't worthy, scum.
Doesn't it permanently damage your balls and test levels too?
i just started on Isotretinoin, been 2 weeks, no sides yet (that i know of), but then again i already had rock bottom libido, haven't had sex in over 10 years
I don’t believe this isn’t curing your acne. It just works (tm). What’s your dose?
It does work I’m just nowhere near fully clear yet. 30mg
Accutane is the last line of defense, you have no choice but to stick with it. Nothing else is going to be as effective. You’re going to quit and the acne that has cleared so far is going to come back, then how will you feel?
Frankly, reading the other post you made you sound like a massive hypochondriac wimp and need to just get over some stuff and keep moving forward.
Yeah I’m manifesting the immobilizing, knife digging through my right eye socket headaches with my hypochondriac mind. Do you have personal stake in Roche or some shit?
I lowered to 10mg 3days ago but the headaches haven’t stopped sadly
I dunno what else to tell you man. You can quit, have your acne come back (100% guaranteed it will), start shitting yourself wishing you were back on, then trying to eliminate foods for the next year with the constant worry that it’s not working. At least accutane gives you the peace of mind that it works.
You sound like a whiny b***h. Just take some Motrin.
You can reduce it to 10 for lower sides but longer time to clear. I use 10.
> I have been thinking of trying an extreme elimination diet like beef only but don’t know where to start
Do an eliminiation diet but don't be moronic about it. You won't single out shit if you stop eating everything. Start with eliminiating prime suspects for 2-3 months. That's dairy and processed sugar for most people, so no milk, yoghurt, whey, cheese, chocolate, candy, ice cream, etc. If your skin gets better, you can add one of those back and look for changes.
How to get rid of cystic acne without scarring?
Stick through it anon and stop being a b***h
I got the suicidal thoughts, heart pain and muscles not recovering side effects too among others and I pulled through because its better than being a greasy frick that repels woman with their monstrous visage
After a 6 month dose I have not had a single spot in the 10 years since I took it and my face/hair doesnt get oily
Just do it, homosexual
vitamin B5 high dose
i was on roaccutane then minocycline for over a decade combined. turned out diet was the biggest cause of my acne and eliminating dairy totally cleared it all up. if i eat a chocolate bar or milk based biscuits i get a breakout later that day, it's insane
by all means tablets are an option but you should also work through your diet in a process of elimination and burn the candle from both ends
another thing i was doing that fricked me up was washing my face like 6 times a day, every 2-3 hours. i scaled this back to just my daily shower during which i use an amino micellar scrub followed by a charcoal wash
avoid any witchs hazel or other types of toners too, they either didn't help or made it worse
Go keto carnivore. Helped me.
Im on accutane too and I have severe acne ever seen puberty. Stick with it and try to distract yourself by reading running or working out. Stay strong, the “pain” now is less excruciating than popped pimples or cysts down the road
I'm currently on Accutane and I've had a ton of side effects too. Some mild headaches, really fricking bad joint pain, some muscle pain, crazy irritability, fatigue, changes in concentration. Ended up going down to a dose of 20 mg that I take once every two or three days. Improved it enough to be tolerable, though still definitely having some of them. One of the things that has helped a ton is taking a vitamin b complex every day. Might not be good for me to take that much but honestly I just cannot deal with the awful cystic acne anymore. I've been on it for 6 mo at this low dose and it's working, so that is something you can do. I'll be stopping next month so here's to hoping it is permanent.
Also if your derm didn't warn you, keep an eye on those headaches. You can get idiopathic intracranial hypertension (pseudotumor cerebri) from this stuff
I only got super dry itchy eyes, chapped lips and dry hair
Also, it stopped my face from being oily afterwards
i had nosebleeds and dry lips all the time.
was using eye drops regularly. still did over a year and it never came back except for occasional pimples
Open question: I've heard there's evidence that if you haven't had any new acne for two months while on accutane that that is a good marker that your acne won't come back and that you can stop, even if you're only 3/4/etc. months in. Is that a meme or real? I've been on this two months and closing in on 1.5 months with no new acne and I'm on a hope and cope wienertail that that might mean I can stop early.
You have a fair shot. A lot of it based on supposition and seeing less relapse patients based on going the extra two months. It's more prudence/good practice than a guarantee.
Non-inflammatory diet. Changes from person to person but for me, no nuts, nothing containing sugar
Do t quit, keep it going. I did Accutane when I was like 16 years old for 6 months. Acne got a lot worse during that time but immediately once I finished up the trial, never had a bad acne problem again
At worst I’ll get one or two small pimples that easily go away in a day or two during the summer time heat.
why quit after 3 months? I got it for 18 months in my late teens. cleared my acne perfectly... only left the scars of them.
nothing before has helped, but it takes at least 8-12 months.
I'm doing 20mg twice a week, only 2 weeks in though.
Should I do it 3 times a week? No sides so far, and I'd like to keep it that way.
Did some digging, and (anecdotally) seems 20mg twice a week is a popular low-dose cycle.
to anyone who has completed a cycle of accutane, what do you do for your skin now? I'm clueless and dont want my acne to come back
Quitting accutane is easy. Just start taking a "hair skin and nails" supplement to help out moving forward: you can get one at costco for cheap, look for the word "biotin."
Additionally, you will need two new moisturizers for basic use. One basic body/crude lotion and one specific to the face (if you want to cut down on wrinkles and have great skin into you're 30's/40's): I suggest a light lotion from aveeno or neutrogena with some hyaluronic acid in it, as well as a topical 15 spf brightening lotion for the face and neck during the day.
You will want to continue with tretinoin cream (Rx only) at night. Only apply wet and start with a very, very low dose and light application at first.
Best wishes.
shower every day but only use a bar of white dove sensitive skin soap even use it in your hair and keep your hair short
Clearing my body of fungal parasites has done wonders for my skin. Check out /cdf/ on /x/ since accutane is end of the line and you're quitting. Worst case, you spent some time reading shit.
Stop fapping, stop eating and drinking sugar, cut all alcohol and protein powder
Also cut caffeine
Get all your nutrients from WHOLE foods and make sure you get PLENTY of electrolytes and fiber
