I like OHP for my general fitness, but it's so tiring that I can't get a good pump. Great for tendon strength though, so OHP is just great period.
I say mix in some shoulder exercises you can actually go to failure on if you want to get a good burn on them.
>dropping OHP/shoulder press and just doing lateral raises and machine reverse flyes
It's why I made this thread. I feel like I would make progress on my shoulder hypertrophy replacing OHP. But frickk I really fricking love doing OHP and it's one of the few lifts with actual practicle use IRL
Also I worship Charli as a holy goddess, frick tayqueers she's the actual Pop Queen
No no don't replace OHP. OHP is great period, and a great measure of your shoulder strength. They are also fun as frick, and no one in the gym but people who care do them. It's okay to mix in some isolations for your shoulders.
For example, I do squats pretty much every session and I mix in leg and quad isolations. Compounds imo are for maintaining your muscle and tendon health, so that you CAN lift more - and isos are for maximizing your muscle gains with less overall fatigue.
Delts aren't just separated into 3 heads. There's more, don't remember exact number, 6-9? Something like that. So ohp hits your front delts and the parts of lateral delts closer to the front. It also requires some rear delt work for stability.
It's not enough by itself for complete delt hypertrophy. It's also not enough to just do ohp if you want to grow ohp. I was doing 82.5kg x 10 today, my rear delts and triceps fatigued first. It IS great if you want to get massive delts and you also do other shit that focuses on posterior/lateral delt.
45 degree barbell delt row is a compound exercise and btfos just doing isolation lateral raises where you have to focus on traps not overtaking the movement because the weight is so light. Basically compounds are great for hypertrophy (and i include shit like upright rows in compounds; if you're scared of shoulder pain from upright rows go to the cable row lie down and "upright row" there with a rope attachment) because you can go absolutely berserker on them and target muscles will still get hit hard. Whereas on iso you are forced to focus on le muscle and can't go as hard.
It does hit the delts well but it's mostly just anterior or front delts. But getting strong at it and just heaving heavy loads over your head is pretty cool thouh. I like to superset Incline Y Raises and OHP to get all heads of the delts.
I've only been lifting 2 months and evidently had ZERO shoulder/chest muscle because I really struggle with OHP (and bench).
That being said, it's my favorite lift to hit PR's on due to how difficult it is. It's immensely satisfying completing all my reps at a new weight. Feelsgoodman.
>I love OHP bros >I WILL be able to lift my GF (52kg) over my head within the next 6/12/18 months.
MASSIVELY overrated. I don’t care what midwit anons say, fight me. Side delts are by far the most important, and lateral raises hit the side delts way better than OHP. Even front delts, I was hitting 1 pl8 OHP for 5 pretty early into my lifting career with bodybuilding form not moronic power/ego lifter arch back pseudo bench press form and I have a memory from when I was a kid of this surfers shoulders that looked unreal and my side delts were there yet somehow my shoulders still didn’t look like that. I added in incline front raises and what do you know my shoulders got the look despite all the fricking influencers saying front raises aren’t necessary even though all the golden era guys through the Coleman era did them. And obviously rear delt flys hit the rear delts a million times better than OHP. That said I still do OHP and can do sets with 2 pl8. It just looks cool and feels like an accomplishment. Doesn’t mean it’s not overrated for shoulder development though
I tried it. It didn't work. I tried everything else and that didn't work either. I went back to ohp and actually figured out how to bulldog grip it, flare the elbows, and internally rotate the shoulders. Finally got delt doms and (barely) noticeable gains and I'm only at 100lbs for sets of 6-8. I can't wait to be repping my bodyweight and see what God intended for my delts to look like.
If youre natty and 'train for size' youre only going to give up and hate yourself. You cant visible put on that much muscle to give you the feeling of progress, unless you start from absolute dyel mode.
Just lift for strength, strength is a better indicator of longevity and progress.
Completely anecdotal but I've gotten slightly bigger delts dropping OHP/shoulder press and just doing lateral raises and machine reverse flyes

Do it behind the neck for maximum gains.
If you can’t press 1pl you’re a dyel
my wrist and shoulder clicks every rep i do on ohp. it doesnt hurt it just makes me a little nervous.
>i hit 155lb 1rm ohp yesterday
I just switched to dumbells and kinda like how I can arc my arms up and in more so than using a bar.

did not read
forgot the question in OP
do your OHP ffs
How does the workout where you train shoulders look and do you roid?
Pretty good however you shouldn’t neglect side raises and face pull for an harmonious shoulders development
