boosting immune system
makes blood move quicker=better erections
you burn more callories
your body adjusts after some time and you get +5 against cold
good way to wake up quickly
when taken after a workout relaxes muscles and isn't even unpleasant as body is hot and take lower temperature more easily
in contrast to hot showers cold showerd don't hurt hair
What I have all noticed. Going from vasodilation (when lifting, I also take garlic/ginger so I get huge pumps) to sudden vasoconstriction and back actually has helped me cure Raynaud's-like symptoms of poor circulation in my extremities.
It also is inevitable as the skin on my face and scalp get extremely dry and irritated with hot water, as does my hair.
On the inflammation question, I've noticed an interesting dissonance in the discussion: those who say inflammation is good think cold showers are bad for the body because it kills inflammation, however if you've ever taken a (real) cold shower that actually dropped your body temp you will know that you get a massive boost in body heat and vasodilation/inflammation right after the shower is done and for approximately two to three hours after in my experience.
So what's the deal? I understand inflammation is key to repairing muscles/tissue as the body needs to flood the area with blood and nutrients, but cold showers actually BOOST inflammation as a "bounceback" effect.
I've been taking cold showers for close to three years now. The brown fat I cannot attest to, though I will say that I've developed more fat on my traps and upper chest, areas which are the most exposed to the cold water. I don't mind it because it makes me look bigger.
The cold resistance is real too. And I feel like I sleep better after taking a cold shower.
This is encouraging because I've had similar symptoms and my experiments with sauna and cold showers have given similar results. I've started to think of arterial health as something that gets trained, like going through repeated vasoconstriction and vasodilation must do something like make the arteries more flexible, or dislodge plaque or something. But I've really noticed the effect with circulation.
SUPPOSEDLY, I didn't read any of the sources, but APPARENTLY, there is research and data that suggests cold showering a couple times a week has a lot of benefits including changing some type of fat you have into a different type of fat which is easier to burn, so it helps you be less fat
but then also you shouldn't do it immediately after working out, because there's apparently also data that suggests that cold showering right after lifting is bad for hypertrophy so if you want to build huge enormous muscles then do cold showers on your rest days or at least maybe 6 hours after you exercise
>some type of fat you have into a different type of fat which is easier to burn, so it helps you be less fat
It's called brown fat dude...
As fat is exposed to cold weather for long enough, about 15 minutes a day. It converts to brown fat in a desperate attempt to keep body temperature stabilized.
This fat is designed to utilize energy, so yes it does help keep you skinny, but it doesn't actually help produce tangible results to boosting muscle growth or any other health benefit other than being skinny.
Whites and athletic people naturally have more brown fat because whites are exposed to colder temperatures and athletic persons are more likely to continue to workout in cold weather opposed to fatties.
Cold showers have a possibility to induce brown fat, but is it really a cold shower or is it just cold compared to you. Remember showers will always be pumping water that is ground temperature.
It has to be at least 58 degrees constantly for this to be achieved.
That is the exact temperature outside during fall that cold exposure begins and you develop brown fat to survive the winter.
This is also why you get suddenly cold in fall and early winter you are usually mildly warm.
Fatties have less brown fat both because they go outside less and because fat is a natural insulator. So less of their core body temperature is changed by cold weather.
>cold shower bad for hypertrophy
suddenly extreme changes are bad for muscle growth because inflammation is necessary for the body to heal. heat is equally as bad if the heat acts as a vasodilator.
Light stretching and elevation are always best for healing right after use.
There's almost no gold standard research on cold water exposure (randomised, controlled). However you can fairly safely assume that cold water causes short term cortisol and norepinephrine release (read, stress, shock). Regular, reasonably safe stresses on the system are posited to moderate (read, train, desensitise) the body's response to them and thus unexpected stress too. So if you live a reasonably cushy life and suffer from anxiety or the negative effects of stress (nearly everyone does), you may see some benefits. Of course, you'd get similar benefits riding a skateboard naked down a hill in a black neighbourhood yelling NIGGEERRRRSSSSS, but you may feel that a less safe way of eliciting a stress response
I can only speak of the psychosomatic effect of a cold rinse after a shower : a few minutes after the shower, you start feeling a wave of good feelings superior to the one after a regular warm shower with no cold rinse.
That's just my anecdotal response but I know it's true for other people too. Maybe not everyone, though.
It's all about proving to your mind that you are in charge, you can overcome things you don't really want to do and do it anyway. It's all about will power.
unless you're so poor that you can't afford gas to heat your shower, cold showers give absolutely NO real long term benefits.
Maybe some short term like waking you up and help you oxygenate.
Full cold showers: summer is a breeze, winter got kind of woeful. Middle of winter I caught bronchitis from my friend's kid so I had to go back to hot showers. I never went back to cold, didn't miss it, and the heat helps my bones and muscles feel good. Was an interesting 8 months. Saved tons of $ on my electricity bills. The end.
Cold showers are okay but don’t make them your whole lifestyle like huberman redditor types. Ice baths are pure memes, spike your cortisol and adrenaline which wreak havoc on your internal organs.
It's a shower and it's cold
It’s also wet.
>don’t torture yourself
Weak.
Saves on gas innit, makes putler seethe
Do a navy shower instead. You save significantly more than adjusting the temperature
There's no benefits, don't torture yourself

Cold showers don't move blood quicker or relax muscles. Quite the opposite. Cold causes vasoconstriction.
>Cold causes vasoconstriction
Yeah short term, but long term it improve cirulation

>No actually, go sit in hot air for 20 minutes
Which one is it.>pour cold water over yourself

Both, moron. Exposing your body to (mild, controlled) temperature variation helps to train its response to natural temperature variation.
>what is swimming in a pool/river/lake/ocean like normal people
again, you guys are full of mysteries today

I use it as a pre-workout ritual
makes me feel like an animal before I smash some weights
Induce stress response to get shit done. Make it a special thing and don't abuse it tho. Serotonin and cortisol are estrogenic.

Black folk
Wash your dishes in cold water and see what happens. Cold water morons all smell like shit
>soap, soap, what is, soap
bonafide moron
There is zero evidence they help you physiologically. People who say they boost test, convert fat to brown fat etc are full of shit.
As a willpower exercise they can be useful, you'll feel revitalised and 'awake' from the shock of the cold water but that's about it dawg
I do it sometimes to test my willpower It's fun.

>what are constricted blood vessels warming back up and "increasing" bloodflow (back to normal) to your brain
yeah real mystery what's going on there
they're stupid, an unneeded shock to the body
>but anon, shocking the body is good psychologically
lift heavier for the shock then pussay
It's all about proving to your mind that you are in charge, you can overcome things you don't really want to do and do it anyway. It's all about will power.
humiliation ritual
It's snake oil for schizos. Just rinse with cold water after a normal hot shower.
Shower hot, but rinse hair with cold water for shiny, healthy looking hair
