Almost all muscles can be trained effectively with machines

Of course free weights are better for strength, as I can’t recall ever seeing any machine powerlifting events.

However for hypertrophy, you actually don’t want to involve “stabilizer” muscles, as they take tension away from the targeted muscle

This, contrary to what most n00bs think, stabilisers aren't actually connected to your primary movers they're effectively walled off by tendonous membranes.
Have you ever seen a marbled steak? Same idea

This is moronic, you won't get stronger so long as the weight is the same, and you sure as shit cannot push MORE weight when using free weights.
If anything it would be the opposite.

Redpill my on why free weights are better than using the workout machines?

Free weights are better because you build both strength as well as technique. You don't just learn how to move weight but also how to move it correctly, without artificial guidance.
This is good for gaining real world usability of your muscles, where a heavy box that you might pick up is also not guided by some kind of rail system that keeps it straight for you.
You also will likely use additional muscles to correct the positions of the free weights, which is always a good thing.

Of course, if you just want to get yuge, you can use either one.

Balancing heavy free weights hits muscles differently than using a machine that only moves in a certain direction. I'm talking out of my ass of course

You are actually lifting shit as opposed to making a certain movement with resistance.

They're not. Machines are safer and more effective. They provide a predictable motion so you can't hurt yourself and you can use more weight. Anyone that uses free weights is basically a ludite moron, it's like using a flip phone

most machines have zero transfer to anything else. you can do all the leg presses and hack squats in the world and it will have zero effect on your squat or jumping or anything else. same with hammer strength pressing machines, zero effect on benching or any other presses. squats and pulls transfer over to each other and to other things like throwing and jumping. dips, ohp and bench all transfer over to each other. most machines do nothing except make you better at that specific machine. only exception is maybe the belt squat machine.

They're not better, they're different. Free weights require the use of stabilizer muscles and that has benefits.

Bro no one uses stabilisers in real life this shit has to die

They aren’t really. They’re multipurpose, at least. Most machines have max 2 different uses, and take up a lot of space. Some exercises are impractical to do on machines, like hip thrusts.

One of the main downsides of free weights is that people get lazy on their technique when they get tired. You aren’t going to failure if you aren’t doing exact technique on EVERY rep. By bringing in muscles other than the ones you’re targeting, you’re just making yourself more tired and getting less hypertrophy.
To this end, machines are way better because they almost force you to have good form.

    Anyways, take the ring pill

Efficiency of a workout. Compound movements with free weights hit more muscles than the analogous movement on a machine because there's more freedom of movement during a rep. Though this also makes free weights generally more fatiguing, so you might wish to focus on a set of movements that isolate specific muscles if your goal is muscle volume as opposed to strength.

Though I promise you no one will give a frick about your maxes on a Smith machine or leg press.

They're not. You can build muscle very well with machines because of the tension the cables provide that free weight doesn't.
    >stabilizers
Sure, that's a good thing. But you can just stabilize by using your body like a normal person. A casual lifter who just wants muscle will benefit greatly from machines.

Stabilisers, muscle that you use to keep a good posture and to control balance.

if you use machines you will target specific muscles and grow them fine but you will not have the additional benefit of working out stabilisers.
Machines are safer if you don't use safeties or if you ego lift with free weights. If you avoid these two things you shouldn't get injured

  24. 11 months ago
    Anonymous

the are harder to stabilize so they also work your minor stabilizing muscles
Perfect as a measure of general strength and if you're a beginner who only want to do a few compound lifts without being too autistic about it.

Machines are generally safer to use at heavier weights but use fewer muscle groups. great if your goal is bodybuilding and if you want to micromanage muscles autistically. but using pure machines means that you need to spend hours and do much more workouts

less likely to neglect smaller supporting muscles mainly, and easier to load.

You can just put them under a desk or into a corner when you're finished using them.
Seriously, they're not better or worse, but lifting them free makes you think more about how your whole body works, from your hands gripping to how your feet are positioned. This also makes them more dangerous if you're careless or stupid.

Now go pick up a fricking barbell. Then a couple dumbbells. ellipticals are auxiliary. Anyone who tells you otherwise is smoking copium. Soibois only use machines because they are easier. Once they pick up a bar it hurts their little ego. So they avoid it like the plague.
