Retard low IQ question but

Did you buy a pair of shoes specifically to wear in the gym? What happens if you just go in there with your everyday shoes?

No, but you can buy those foot-shaped shoes with the toes, or some flat-footed Vans or basketball shoes if it's more comfortable when you squat.

Nothing "happens" if you wear regular shoes. The only morons are the ones that walk around in their socks (it's disgusting and cringe).

I don't walk around in my socks, but I do take my shoes off for squats and diddlies. If you think socks are the most disgusting thing in the gym though anon, you must be a highly regarded member of your community

Nobody wants your stinky sweaty footprints on the mats. People just abstain from confronting you about it bc they all think you are mentally challenged.

      I did (knot)

You are supposed to go with shoes you only use there i guess, i use my everyday shoes and nobody has complained about it

Yeah i have a pair of offbrand chucks for the gym because I prefer a supported heel and arch in my everyday shoes.

Climbing gyms are the ones that have rules about wearing outdoor shoes to the gym but I don't think anyone really cares outside of that.

Used to wear my everyday Summer shoes and took them off when I squatted until a significantly more jacked dude approached me and asked if I saw the vids of ppl squatting in socks and losing their footing, snapping their knees.
Soon after my gym introduced a shoes are mandatory rule and I bought some Converse specifically for the gym.

Who tf wears shoes in the gym, or anywhere indoors (excluding public places where people just trample in and out as they please), and why? Why are Americans like this?

Because there you're merely passing throughand it would be quite an annoyance to have a dedicated locker room for every grocery store or library.

The gym is a public place. Do you want your socks to get soaked with anon’s ass sweat?

I seriously hope you don’t go to the gym with every day shoes. The absolute worst of which are boomer sneakers. Incels here have it all wrong. Women judge first and foremost by the type of shoes you wear

this is a genuine question so its OK you asked
there is a thing called lifting shoes, yes, but they probably arent worth the investment for 90% of active gym goers. im not saying 90% of the population, I'm saying 90% of gymbros.

what matters is you dont lift in a running shoe, as they have different heel and tip balance, so you cant tap into your core strength as much as you could during compound lifts

lifting in a converse is a better idea instead of a running shoe, or barefoot, if you are gonna occupy a rack for some time. walking around without shoes is bad etiquette in EU though I dont know how burgers do it across the pond

this is true but irrelevant in case of gym shoes

    np autist bro:
old converse and vans are the classic "gym shoe" choice for regular guys. Wear either to be the most inconspicuous.
Most every-day shoes are pretty inconspicuous too, nobody will notice them since most of this type of shoe already look like trainers, like Nike AF1s Pumas, adidas, etc,

Generally speaking you'd only need gym specific shoes if you wear other shoes throughout the day, like dress shoes at work or something or if its winter/raining and you arrive at the gym with dirty/wet shoes.
As a matter of politeness you should change shoes before going out on the gym floor.

You don't need lifting shoes until you're well past 1/2/3/4 and really know what you're doing or why you need them.
I squat 3pl8 and dont use lifting shoes (or a belt!) but everyone is different.

I always wear a highly durable running shoes and I never change them other than when I need to wear dress shoes. I have a backup pair when they finally start falling apart. .

I feel like it's safer and better to get used to one type of footwear, using a different type of one specifically for lifting is like the antithesis of that. Super occasionally I also go barefoot, should do it more often. But I don't lift heavy barefoot.

Dude, your "everyday shoes" have all the dirt and grime of the street on them, please do not go into the gym and track your filthy street shoes all over the place.

I've got some shoes I use just for running. I run a lot so, I'm rough on them and burn through them quickly. That and they wind up drenched with sweat.

I did get a pair for the gym. High quality high top converse, but you can also get the more expensive actual lifting shows. They only really matter for movements where you need your hips to go low while still maintaining form. So basically squat and deadlift and Olympic lift type movements. For pretty much any upper body movement its useless because your feet don't do much if anything (maybe hip drive but your shoes won't matter for that. Barefoot/socks works too. Basically what you want them for is to have a flat surface. Things like tennis shoes have fake foam arches that squish with heavy weight, so its not stable and it's like lifting on sand vs lifting on stone. The expensive weight lift shoes have the flat surface but actually have an incline so if your ankles don't have good range, you can go deeper without needing ankle flexibility.

Basically you don't need any equipment as long as you stretch and work on flexibility. But if you don't like dirty socks/feet in a public gym, get converse or flat bottoms. If you REALLY care about lifting to shell out money, or have very bad flexibility and still want to lift with good flexibility, get specialized shoes.
