I took omeprazole for almost a year and found out the hard way that I had some mineral/vitamin deficiency later on, primarily magnesium.

I'm in the same boat as you, I went to a naturopathic doc and he told me to get off of it and warned me that doing so will reintroduce all the bacteria to your gut that was previously suppressed, resulting in basically a 3 day hangover. Wasn't pleasant, but I'm glad I'm off of it now. Maybe I should give Magnesium a shot

He cared for my health more than the previous physician who prescribed me, a 24 year old (at that time) man, hypothyroid meds and then told me the resulting heart palpitations were because I was unvaxxed.
I'd go so far as to say I'll never go to a non-naturopathic physician ever again as a result. If I wanted unnecessary pharmaceuticals pressed on me by sociopathic drug dealers, I'd just go to the ghetto.

Same doing SSRIs for a while fricked up my digestive system, I got IBS and all that, after a month of not eating much except beef and eggs, it got all sorted out. My digestive system needed a few weeks of peace to fix itself.

I don't know if the diet is the best thing to do long term, but short term it fixed me.

Tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water first thing in the morning, 1/2 a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water to treat acid reflux. Problem solved in less than month and as long as I stick to the apple cider vinegar in the morning a few days a week it doesn’t come back.

This may help some of you as it did me. I tried all kinds of remedies in the past, including "treating" h-pilory, and nothing worked long term. Until I stopped drinking tap water. It was either something in the pipes, or the chlorine having a bad effect on me, but stopping drinking tap water cured me within days. If I overdo carbs I'd still get reflux sometimes, but it's extremely rare nowadays as I also make sure not to eat too much carbs, maybe once every year or two. If I do long distance running regularly, I don't have to watch the carbs either. For bottled water, always choose the one with the highest amount of magnesium and calcium you can find.

tl;dr stop drinking tap water, watch your carb intake, or do long distance running.

Also have silent reflux. I have been clearing my throat constantly for years, had no idea it was from reflux. Had dental problems too, also from reflux.

Then I had an upper endoscopy and I now have Barrett's Esophagus, which can become esophageal cancer.

So now I'm taking omeprazole and supplements to try to counteract the loss of minerals.

I have heard of someone curing their acid reflux by training their muscles. They are at a slightly declining position, and slowly in erased the decline over several months. This increased the resistance for the swallowing muscles to work against. Eventually the muscles were strengthed and this prevented reflux

Silent reflux is a little different. You never feel the burning. You just notice the effects of it, like constant scratchy or mucousy throat.

You just sound like regular GERD.

It's basically the same thing though.

Would that not lead to atrophy of the already weak sphincter to have a permanent assist for it?

        Anonymous

This is an extreme solution, like if your sphincter is gone and you can't keep food down. And it's got bad downsides.

I'm battling this myself right now. One of the things that seems to help is skipping breakfast, eating a clean lunch and dinner, and no snacking in between. Seems when I constantly have food digesting in my gut my stomach never gets a chance to fully empty and this aggravates the issue.
