Seed oils are necessary for normal bodily function

>George Oswald Burr (Fig. 1), reported that the deficiency disease observed in rats fed a fat-free diet was caused by the absence of dietary fatty acids, not by the lack of a lipoid contained in the fat, and he concluded that fat was an essential dietary component
>Burr then demonstrated that the addition of a small amount of linoleic acid, the 18-carbon ω-6 polyunsaturated fatty acid containing two double bonds (18:2ω-6), cured this deficiency disease and, therefore, was an essential fatty acid
>These two seminal papers are now regarded as classics in biochemistry

    >And later, in the 1960s, patients consuming long-term parenteral (IV) nutrition devoid of linoleic acid developed skin rashes and other signs of essential fatty acid deficiency, which also reversed after the addition of linoleic acid [*].

drink motor oil instead. It's good for an engine so it's good for you too.

according to what you are saying, the rats were fed a fat free diet.

people are arguing that saturated fats are healthier then poly unsaturated fatty acids, thats not the same thing as advocating a fat free diet.

also, linoleic acid is good for you in the right amount and proportions, but the seed oils we consume contain very high amounts of linoleic acid, and not as much omega 3 and 9 in proportion.

so what you just said doesn't address the actual concerns of a diet heavy in seed oils.

        >starve living organisms of essential macronutrient (things that make life and basic organ function possible)
        >give lab rat a small amount of missing, artificially removed macronutrient so that it can continue living
        >anon now thinks sneed oils are good, because lab rats were artificially starved of a macronutrient
This board really is, moronic, then.

That's akshually true but only really in the case of nutrition, select other fields and mostly re: the US.

    What about this then

    >Documented instances of linoleic acid deficiency occur in [*,*]:
    >Infants who are given formula that doesn’t contain essential fatty acids like linoleic acid
    >Seriously ill patients on parenteral (IV) nutrition
    >People who are starving or severely malnourished

So how come linoleic acid is good but seed oils are bad when you say the bad thing in them is linoleic acid?

linoleic acid is actually good for you, but only a certain amount, and only when digested with omega 3 and omega 9, by it self and in high amounts it is bad for you, and they are in high amounts in seed oils and without omega 3 and 9.

additionally, poly unsaturated fats diminish testosterone and promote estrogen, and saturated fats promote testosterone and diminish estrogen.
