You can cosplay if you're overweight so long as you choose proper characters that look like you. Otherwise you're going to embarass yourself.

But down the road you should certainly lose weight. Fatties will never be as admired as the thin cuties. Consider it a motivation to get your life in order and become more healthy.

    Depends on your motivation

    >The thought of dressing up as my favorite characters makes me happy, cosplay would be a hobby for myself that makes myself happy
    No

    > I want people to look at me, compliment me, like my posts and take pictures of me at cosplay events
    Yes

This. If you want people to care and like your cosplay, then look appealing. Else, do it only for the fun and self satisfaction.

What are the consequences if I cosplay while being fat?

        Anonymous

literally nothing, unless you consider strangers' internal judgment a consequence. at cons, you will be ignored by most, and complimented by a few people who are passionate about the character you're cosplaying. always a chance some mega sperg could come up to you just to make backhanded comments, but cons should be your best bet. you'll see plenty of other fat cosplayers there too.

if you plan to cosplay online (instagram), you might get a rude comment on occasion. instagram cosplayers are too worried about their own reputation to publicly shame you, though, so i wouldn't worry about it.

don't cosplay on tiktok. risk is much higher than reward for fat cosplayers on that app. but the tiktok cosplay scene is really just an e-fame circle jerk, so there's no reason to bother anyways.

Exercise regularly and eat a balanced diet. Find things you enjoy, in both exercise activities and food. I recommend long leisurely walks and fruit for snacks as starters. Don’t go ana, you’re more likely to rebound and/or only be able to cosplay skelebitches.

From there, wrt cosplay, look at your body with respect and honesty, and think about who you relate to that you would enjoy encapsulating in that or a similar body. Go from there. As previous anons have said, the more your body changes, the more sewing crafting altering etc you’ll have to do, aka the better your cosplays AND physique will get.

You’re maxing out all your levels at once. You only need begin.

You always get bonus points if your body type matches the character, but mostly just do whatever brings you the most joy

If you are too disproportionally sized for the character, I wouldn't recommend it. Only because it can cause difficult in recognizing a cosplay, or just be a bit too awkward. Nothing wrong at all with being a few sizes over or under, but if the character's notable for being super buff or super sticc, super bodacious or super round, it's a bit counterintuitive to cosplay it if you're on the other side of the spectrum. Just please, for the love of God, don't be one of the fat girls who lets her ass hang out and breasts flop around to compensate. I hate that shit so much. But a softer, bigger Miku is very acceptable - don't let other people determine what you do for fun. Remember, you cosplay because you like the character and it's fun, where the recognition should come secondary. Besides, being a little plus size can be endearing.

Woha thanks for posting my flan man, knew I’d get on here someday but wasn’t expecting it to be in such a kind message. Being plus size in cosplay is hard but cosplaying from a fandom you’re passionate about (like touhou lol) makes it worth it. Cosplay isn’t about being sexy or anything like that, just about crafting and having fun. Besides most cosplays come in XL or XXL anyways if you’re doing premade stuff so you really don’t need to be skinny to physically do it. You can get a decent following too as long as your good at makeup or super good at crafting. just stay away from tiktok dear god.

Yes, I dropped almost 100 pounds and half the reason was so I wasn't disgracing my favourite characters by doing a fat version of them.

Sadly , if you are gonna buy cosplay ( anime) , the sizes are really short ( made by Asian measures), so if you can do your own garments and not depend on Asian sellers, you will be fine, lose some weight for healt reasons, not for a fad, cosplay your character , good luck
