I don't know if it would cause weight loss. An all donut diet is less restrictive than you think-- it's got a very pleasing ratio of carbs/sugar/fat and salt. Even then though, it might cause weight loss because eating nothing but donuts is fricking nauseating.

eat plants -> blood glucose pumps -> insulin pumps -> blood glucose down -> hunger. eat more plants. any carb you eat spikes blood glucose. fruits do cause sugar cravings. not that difficult to figure out.

People shit on the keto diet or carnivore or whatever, I don't do it myself but for sure it isn't a panacea for everyone. It certainly works well for some people. "Vegans" who eat all sorts of processed carbs and sugars almost always look like shit, though. Unless they're on roids.
I'm sure there are heaps of fat keto lardos out there who think eating 5,000 calories of butter a day will make them lose weight, we all agree those are morons. But I see a lot more people genuinely improving their health through increasing their meat intake than the reverse. The unhealthiest looking people I see are always raw vegans/fruitarians or whatever, those people look sickly, like they're knocking on death's door.
At the end of the day diet is not as important or generalisable as people make it out to be. Since we are all unique, our gut microbiomes even moreso, the diet that works the best for me won't be the same for you, or your friend, or whoever else.
Whoever is selling this idea that there is an ultimate blanket diet that will cure your hemorrhoids, cancer and dementia is a grifter selling bullshit. Diet isn't as important as exercise for the large part. If you exercise regularly you can get away with eating a bit more sloppily for sure. If you're totally sedentary one bad dietary habit will be felt strongly.
At the end of the day, just lift and do regular cardio and try different things out. Increase and decrease your carb, protein and fat ratios and see what feels best for you. Eat a variety of different foods and get as many micronutrients as you can. People complicate this shit to the max to sell you courses and cookbooks and bullshit. Don't be a fricking idiot, it's pretty simple.
