all it takes to disprove CICO as the end all be all is one guy eating over calculated "maintenance" and not gaining weight due to compensatory metabolic actions that still satisfy the laws of physics but confound diet strategies

no, go to a basic calorie calculator website and it will guestimate your calories based on self-reported exercise level. entirely based on "what your metabolic output should be, in theory" as opposed to real life results, not to mention calories out is ridiculously unstable and easy to manipulate

You're right, all it takes is a mongoloid, one who can't do simple addition, to attribute his 47 IQ grasp on basic math to "compensatory metabolic actions" and thus "refute" cico. Bonus points if he not only then says cico doesn't work, but also doesn't post body with timestamp.

the only real argument against CICO is that the calories on nutrition label in the United States are allowed a 20% margin of error, and when you tell some fat ass that they can eat whatever they want, and they just have to count calories, even if they end up counting the calories nothing will change if all they are eating is processed junk.
Give a fatass a scale and make them count the calories in chicken, rice, and broccoli, and they will lose weight.

        >Give a fatass a scale and make them count the calories in chicken, rice, and broccoli, and they will lose weight.
except even if you read forums where people who believe in CICO who repeatedly do this to anal levels, they'll have times they can't lose weight and blame "water"

          Anonymous

They're counting wrong or it really is water cause their sodium is too high. This shit is so simple. You really have to put in effort to be this stupid.

            Anonymous

two copes in one sentence. you're telling me the body will compensate for high sodium by driving water intake? gee i wonder if that applies to literally anything else you consume

              Anonymous

High sodium can drive water retention, and sure, if your food is salty you're probably going to drink more as well. Go wild on some pepperoni pizza and tell me how much you gained overnight. I promise, that's not 10 lbs of fat.

well duh. point is, there will be people on a strict calorie-counted diet who don't lose weight in one week despite doing everything "right" (because they have no idea what their calories out are) and they'll blame the water boogeyman

He still mentions that factors such as his macros are very important too. He's not just stuffing his face with pure slop. I'm pretty sure in this video specifically (from which OP's picrel was taken from) he talks about eating two crispy chicken sandwiches from wendys. He actually talks about this same "treat" in multiple videos and makes the same point - even the slop he eats while following the laws of CICO follows some structure in order to get 250g of protein daily while also accounting for carbs and fat

        Anonymous

I'll add— if you care about maintaining or growing muscle, you do need to modulate your protein intake based on how your carbs and fats are allocated, as carbs are protein sparing. Fats require protein to be converted to muscle glycogen. So a low carb diet would ideally require a higher than usual (1g/lb) amount of protein to avoid catabolism.

Lol I didn't know he ate that much in one sitting, I wonder if he was fat growing up. Also I think you just have to take his eating videos as one offs, I doubt he has 4000cal of cinnamon toast crunch written into his daily diet but rather he did it for a video

Retatd. If something you're doing dietarily or otherwise is making it so you can't gain weight eating past your precious maintenance, the said action has increased your maintenance. What about that is hard to understand?

if you wanna cheat look into HGH or HCG, your growth plates are probably formed but you could squeeze some inches out of God knows where

25 is the upper limit, very few people actually grow past age 18-20, it moatly depends on when you atart puberty, if you start at age 12, you're done at age 18-19, start at age 15 your done at age 21-22 ect, it used to happen more in the past where puberty would be delayed due to poor nutrition.

He was lean as hell at his peak bulk of 245 and even more so at 235, right now he'd be stage lean at 220 tops.

If he wants to be IFBB big he needs to eventually bulk to a fluffy 260-270 then cut. So far he's avoided getting fat or bloated on his bulks.

    >CICO is objectively true
    >situational factors can make it more difficult to accurately measure CICO, depending on the person the difference between calories eaten and calories truly entering the body's thermodynamic system can vary
    >it is still a very simple matter to restrict calories in since CI will always be strictly less than calories eaten
    >additional action may be required to ensure that CO isn't dipping to compensate
Not sure why any of this is controversial. CICO is true but sometimes difficult to accurately measure and therefore other methodologies may be useful. Everyone has valid points here, it's a false argument.

      Anonymous

pretty fair take. the main thing that bugs me is that people turn to it as a tautology and act like any further discussion (like how CI affects CO) is unneeded because "do you even physics bro"

        Anonymous

        Fair, that's reductive and annoying.

      Anonymous

Finally an intelligent post. This is absolutely correct. CICO is nothing more or less than the understanding that energy intake and energy output are the hard limits to our weight fluctuation. It won't get you precise numbers, but it will get you an accurate range for a healthy human without catastrophic damage to their metabolism (which can likely still be predicted with their own offset).

What good does it do if it can't be precise? Well your metabolism can be kept relatively stable long enough to narrow down your energy expenditure range and identify good targets to hit for a deficit or reasonable surplus before a fast. It can be used to put caloric numbers to the level of hunger you experience and demystify why you're feeling what you're feeling. It can be used to guage what foods increase or decrease satiety for the same caloric budget. Spoilers, deep fried canola oils, ultra processed wheat, corn syrup, and other junk foods are designed to decrease satiety.

CICO is a diagnostic tool. It can be a diet on its own but usually will lead to a specific strategy as you discover what foods are and aren't worth it given your lifestyle
