So I have a tooth that has received a root canal treatment years ago. Was fine but it started to hurt two days ago.

So I have a tooth that has received a root canal treatment years ago. Was fine but it started to hurt two days ago. Apparently it's fucked. If I'm correct, I can either do another root canal treatment or get an implant. Which one should I choose?

If the prognosis is good then have it retreated at an endodontist.
Always better to keep your tooth in your bone.

I keep reading shit about how leaving a dead tooth is bad for you and releases toxic shit into your body. Any truth to it?

If the root canal treatment is done well and there is no chronic inflammation under the tooth, then no.
If you have like 5+ rotten teeth with huge inflammations under them then it can cause some health problems. My colleague removed like 5 FUBAR decayed teeth for his friend and he said that he literally stopped being tired all the time.

The very same tooth I'm talking about was giving me heart palpitations until it received a root canal treatment. Never had them before and never had them again after it was treated. Pain is very bearable so it shouldn't do any harm to wait until Monday, right?

Most likely nothing is going to happen. If it becomes painful then some antibiotics is all you need.

Dentalfag, can you answer a question about the industry for me. Is it run for profit as opposed to actually helping people?
      >be me, 47 year old boomer
      >when I was like 20 or 21 dentist said I needed all my teeth removing and to get false teeth instead
      >I cant remember the reason he gave why though
      >but this was very expensive
      >couldn't afford it so didnt do it, and never got around to it
      >fast forward to now, as I said I'm almost 50 and still have all my teeth
      >never had any problems with them, they look fine and never caused pain

Am I right to assume I was lied to and the dentist was trying to make money by charging me for extractions and then false teeth? Are a lot of dentists bad like this?

Like I said I cant remember the reason he gave. And it was just a routine checkup, they weren't hurting or anything. I've never been back to a dentist since

so which part of your tooth is alive after a root canal ?

when I was 2 or 3 and lived in the notorious socialist shithole known as canada, one of my baby teeth was fucked because of the poor diet one could expect from living in a land with no freedom, so I was sent to a soh-ree excuse for a dentist, where the concept of anesthesia or any kind of pain killing was unheard of. they just pulled my tooth out without explanation and told me to shut up, because like any normal 2 or 3 year old I was wailing. Now that I live in a country that understands modern medicine, I was able to have more advanced dental work done including surgery without any pain... but any time I learn or hear about any kind of dental work or surgery I get horrible flashbacks. I despise all dentists but compared to canadians they are all virtuous saints. fuck canada.

      cool story bro

have two dental implants due to falling on my face. They're fine but fucking expensive. always better to keep a tooth. No decent dentist will recommend a implant unless absolutely necessary.
Maybe consider a dental crown as root-filled teeth are generally weaker, but this depends on how ur current root canal failed. odds are u just suck at brushing, so l2p fag

No. This is literally the only broken tooth I have never had in my life. I have no fillings on my other teeth. It's funny you should mention it because that teeth was rotting from the inside but there was no cavity. There must have been a small fissure which he did not see. I'm very thorough with my dental hygiene.

in '96 or '97, also around the time my younger brother was born, where doctors encouraged my mother to have a natural birth. I was born from a c-section in a different country, and apparently the "doctors" in canada were not aware of the fact that a natural birth after a c-section is extremely dangerous for the mother. after realizing my brother would not come out after many days, they performed a second c-section after all, which was nearly botched and required twice the recovery time. by all laws of nature and canadian medical journals my mother should be dead, but luckily she is alive to this day.

It's interesting. You seem to trust modern medicine a lot because of the experiences you've made. I on the other hand distrust modern medicine a lot. I think modern medicine often does more harm.

I have a healthy distrust for modern medicine, but an even greater distrust for anyone who practices medicine in canada or an equivalent communist hellhole.

Dental guy here. Did you get a crown on it? Typically, after root canal treatment a crown is indicated. Depending on what tooth it is (I assume molar) you can get the root canal done again because the first one didnt work (maybe missed a canal) or get extracted and implant placed. They would need to get a panoramic before doing that to see bone level.

i recently had it done because my tooth ended up fucked from the first time a dentist tried drilling out the cavity that had rotted one third of the tooth. the area around it was inflamed and caused headaches. had the canals drilled, cleaned and filled at a much more expensive and reputable dentist. no regrets so far.

You can also just pull it out and leave it like that.
The sane but costly option is the implant but there is a chance of your body rejecting it and that money being metaphorically flushed down the drain.
