Get a standing desk.
Standing 8 hours isn't good either. An adjustable desk is the new meta. But this leads us back to OP.
Highly doubt it. I'm standing 14 hours every day. Nothing worse than sitting.
No you are not, you are walking
walking =/= standing
i'm saving up to buy a hoversuit like the Baron Harkonnen
just move around as much as you can and it doesn't matter, you'll hurt your back more forcing yourself into "good" (aesthetic) posture than you will being relaxed. as long as you don't look like pic related and you don't sit for hours upon hours without doing even a little stretching then you're fine
after years of sitting like pic you posted i have either fricked up my spine or pelvis or both slightly
nothing concerning enough to see doc but shit is visible with naked eye when i look at myself in the mirror
could still be fixable, often the spine isn't actually fricked up (you'd want to see a doc if it was), rather the muscles around it that have compensated for the poor position give the impression of a fricked up spine. it might be as easy as getting good control of your scapula, doing thoracic extension exercises, and stretching out your pecs. if you do complex natural movements (building core strength) and stretch often then your ribcage, scapulae and head should hopefully fall into the correct natural position and fix any "spine" issues. this especially applies if you're still relatively young (like 40 and below) but can really help anyone
There are two important parts of proper posture here.
1. Not protruding your neck forward.
2. Not pushing your pelvis back.
In the red image, you are not protruding your neck. But when most people try and sit up straight they tuck their pelvis back and thrust their chest forward. This is wrong.
In the green image, you are less likely to tuck your pelvis, as your body is relaxed. But you will slouch your neck forward. Are you really going to lean your head back and look at your screen through the bottom of your eyes?
The obvious answer is that the red image is the correct way to sit. But you have to learn to NOT tuck your pelvis. Adjusting your chair properly can help. You can also use a pillow to support your lower back if you are struggling with this. Look up youtube videos on this if you actually want help with your posture. Ignore all of the "Do this exercise!" videos. Just look up how to stand and sit with proper posture.
>proper posture
According to whom? Some s o i gay with a university degree.
Sitting is not proper posture no matter how you do it.
The neck and pelvis issues apply when standing. If you sit one way for long periods of time, it affects your posture while standing . If you don't sit very much it probably doesn't matter. But seeing as you are on this website, I can assume you sit for long periods of time.
I have a standing desk. Been using it for almost a year.
Sitting makes you low energy, depressed and fricks up your fitness. Don't do it. There is no correct way to sit.
This anon is mostly right.
You also need to occasionally adjust your sitting position to shift the load to different parts of your body, just minor adjustments though. You'll probably do it without thinking, basically just don't be too strict.
Just sat through a 3 hour corporate training on ergonomics and the answer is one but with your head tilted slightly down.
You have to change your sitting posture all the time. Put legs on the table. Asian squat on your chair. Lotus sitting works well too.
Standing desk is just as bad. Walking is good, but standing is a terrible idea.
Why is standing bad? What the other anon said makes a lot more sense.
Your body needs both rest and movement to be healthy. Too much of one thing is always bad. Staying in the same position for a long time gives some joints and muscles too much rest, and activates other joints and muscles too much.
Standing is better than sitting because you can engage more muscles and relieve some joint stress. But standing for hours will still give you lower back and knee pain.
The same can be said about walking. Walking is obviously better than standing. And walking on uneven terrain is easier than flat terrain for the same reason.
That's why you should change your sitting posture all the time to activate new muscles and joints relieve stress out of other muscles and joints.
In short, there is no perfect posture for standing and sitting.
i have a high table where i can use it standing up, and a high chair so i just jump on the chair when im tired and vice versa
