Is there any downside to doing this? My new job has become the biggest gains goblin in my life. I barely have any time in the morning before I have to leave, and by the time I get home I'm too exhausted to complete a full workout. Recently I've started doing any dumbbell movements I have for the day in the morning, and then when I get back I do any barbell lifts I have. This is all in my home gym, and it typically breaks down to 3 sets in the morning, 3 sets in the afternoon. Am I going to lose gains doing this, and is there a better alternative?

Really? Strange, my reason for asking is that it hasn't felt difficult enough. Simply doing 3 sets and then stopping leaves me feeling unfulfilled. Maybe that means I'm not lifting heavy enough or doing enough reps.
If it doesn't feel difficult enough, then go harder, do more, etc.

The only thing you might (which would only be temporary) is some work capacity, meaning that you no longer are used to long workouts and they gas you out a little more when you return to them. (might not, if you been lifting for a while) but that fixes it self in a few weeks anyway. Yeah its all good to split it up like you proposed.
