What is the best amount to squat per week? I've been doing twice a week except for once a week every month and I am noticing steady progress

        Anonymous

twice a week regular squats plus some accessories like leg extensions or hack squats on non squat days is literally all you need for legs no cap

        Anonymous

You can do leg press + RDLs + leg extensions + leg curls, twice a week. This way you can do higher reps without recking your joints and your squat and deadlift will go way up.
But you will have to use your hips on the leg press instead of doing ROM equal to your penile length.

          Anonymous

Why would you have to use your hips more on a leg press when you can simply put your toes MUCH lower on the press plate and make it almost completely quad-dominant?
That's the focus of my 2nd leg session each week - my heels aren't even on the press plate, I cut the weight in half or more of what I can do with feet higher, and I do slow 10 second negatives until I bottom out just before my ass would come off the support pad. Quads get fried, hams and hips get pretty well no recruitment, and all is well.
Pair that shit with BSS and you'll be doing the fricking crip walk out of the gym at the end.

            Anonymous

I mentioned leg press as the heavy quad exercise. Both leg press and hack squats are time efficient and energy efficient since they build the legs without recking your lower back, shoulders and elbows like the squat.
If you are a masochist who likes one legged work then be my guest, but most people really want to be in and out of the gym and leg press + leg extensions hit the quads sufficiently.

              Anonymous

Why are people here still saying you'll wreck yourself squatting? Are you simply trying to hold people back from their true potential? Because there's no other reason to say it.
Sure, you CAN get big without squatting. But squats, while effective, are also fun to do when you develop a proficiency with them.
and wrecking shoulders and elbows? Holy shit, I've NEVER known anyone to wreck those from squatting, those are bench-related issues which then make it HARD to get in proper position squatting once they happen, but those are NOT remotely common for squat related injuries.
And again, if you LEARN to brace your core (which 99% of you do NOT know how to do properly), your odds of injuring your back even when going very heavy are slim to none.
Maybe, instead of demonizing things you're too lazy or weak to do, understand that your lack of proper knowledge of bracing is something you should have spent more time on and maybe you too could be squatting double bodyweight.

                >Are you simply trying to hold people back from their true potential?
more hold people back from having herniated discs, which is the most likely outcome of stubbornly pushing yourself on squats
the reward are bigger quads and not much else
novices shouldn't be encouraged to be squat simps, but for some reason many internet lifting communities tried to groom every new lifter into becoming a wannabe powerlifter
this is not only stupid but straight up harmful

what do you do if you go for a PR but you're actually weaker than your previous PR so you just can't even move the weight at all on the way up? you can't just duck and dump the weight. way easier and safer to just put the safeties 1 rung belowyour depth and just leave the bar there

Every time I squat, the pins are about 2" below my parallel depth. Only about once every 2-3 years do I miss a squat, and they catch it perfectly as I just let myself sink down a bit lower to let it catch the weight so I can get out from under it.

Squat and deadlift are unnecessary stress on the spine, and quiet unintuitive in the sense that you really have to teach and cue the right form otherwise the natural way you tend to do the lift will be wrong. There are many single leg exercises and other types of exercises that are better.

he could just squat and deadlift once or twice a week and do just fine

      >Squat and deadlift are unnecessary stress on the spine,
How fricking moronic. The spine was MADE to take stress, it's that morons who don't know how to brace their core and always try to max out for a new PR get their backs fricked while everyone else is fine.
You may as well say that knees aren't meant to take stress so you'd better get a wheelchair and stop walking and running so you can save your legs. You fricking mongoloid.

        Anonymous

True, the spine was made to take on an extra 500lbs. The guy you replied to must be oblivious to the fact that all 600lb land whales have no health problems whatsoever and have perfectly functioning joints.

          Anonymous

Yeah, that's TOTALLY what I said, mongoloid.
The spine was, in fact, MADE to be able to take stress and carry additional weight on the body. That is fact, if you try to imply it isn't, you should just leave the internet immediately and never come back.
          >a 600 lb. landwhale is the same as a guy who spent 10 years building his body up to take on massive weight, really, it's the exact same!
Did I quantify the level of stress? No. It becomes what your supporting system can handle. If you have a core that can handle stabilization of huge weight, then you can support it without spinal damage, period. If you don't, you can get fricked up. But implying that everyone who squats/deadlifts is "gonna get fricked up" is pure gayscience moronation with no evidence other than "That guy who squatted every day for years like a moron got hurt so that proves my homosexual theory" shit.
Why are so many DYEL morons here LARPing as if they know anything about lifting? It really pains me, I think you should never set foot in a gym again, go back to sucking wiener at your local glory hole, and stick to what you're good at. Because this ain't it. I've been squatting 500+ for 20 years and deadlifting over 600 just as long, and my back is just fine. Your brain, however, is failing.

Eat a Black person dick, homosexual. I'm turning 49 next month, and sometimes, the only way to get through a thick zoomer skull is to speak to you like the petulant kids you are.
I'll always be better than you even as an old man. I know this pains you to grasp this, that your pseudoscience bullshit will keep you weak forever, but it's okay to let the truth in. Better you figure out now that lifting isn't for you and that you should just stop, than for you to waste another few years of coming here complaining that you're not making any gains while simultaneously giving 25% of your actual maximum effort and ability. It'll be good to let it go and find yourself a new hobby.

the "natural" way you tend to lift blows out the back of moronic normies picking up 10kg boxes all the time
those lifts are a great filter for morons

There was a bunch of guys doing it at the same time, me included. I ended up at 80 days before my knees was so swollen that I couldn’t take it anymore. Ivan kept going. Think he was at day 200 when I quit.

There needs to be a clinical review on what causes squat autism (squatism). It's ONLY that lift, even bench specialists don't go full moron like this.

I think it's an obsession about *proving* you're not a leg day skipper and you want to be the special snowflake doing something that sucks so that you have that card to pull to imply everyone else doesn't train as hard as you. Insecurity mostly

Except they do, they just aren't loud mouthed about their autism, its the most fun next to chin ups or pull ups when it comes to exercise tbfh.

No they don't, that's a complete lie and I challenge you to find anyone nearly as autistic. You can't because if you benched every day and threw everything else to the side your shoulder rips off. Squatism even has a longer history because it first got popularized with squats and milk.
