Is 5x8-10 moronic? I started lifting again in January and did SL to get back to where I was. Now less than 5 sets seems like half a workout. Weight adjusted so that I'm 1 or 2 reps from failure.
You'll probably will make gains from it for a while but doing 3x10-12 at a heavier weight will give you bigger muscles faster and doing 5x5 at a much heavier weight will give you strength faster.
what some people I know do is they either do both, so 2 chest days per week, one for strength 5x5 and one for mass 3x10-12 or they go in cycles, 2-4 months of strength 5x5 followed by 2-4 months of mass 3x10-12 then you deload for a week amd either go back to strength or you cut bf is its getting to high or if your happy with your size and want that beach ready body.

After having experimented with different set/rep schemes, I always revert back to 4x6-8. Pretty sure, I will stay with it forever, since it just works best for me. Simple double progession, increasing the weight when I can do 8 reps in all sets.
I don't even know what it is about 6-8 reps per set, it just feels right.
Same. 8 reps for the big 3, 10 reps for the others. When I can comfortably do 3x8 and 3x10 with those I put up the weight.
