the point of yoga is meditation i.e. increased focus. flexibility is just a side effect. you incorporate it in your routine much like going to the gym. if you don't you're not doing it right. what i will say is that with increased focus bunch of wild shit has been happening for me - accidental astral projecting, ~~*the light*~~ and people generally just act fricking weird around me (yeah i can see the irony in what i just said).

politics of all kinds are gay and irrelevant.

    How old are you?

Do stretching and posture work before you develop joint problems. It's far easier to prevent injury than it is to heal it. I'm speaking from experience. I have a calcified and slightly immobile shoulder that I've been working diligently for a year and a half to fix. I've made some progress, but my shoulder is still extremely fricked. Being immobile is a special kind of hell that you want to avoid at all costs.

When I stretch my feet, I mainly stretch my achilleas and use my hands to stretch and massage the plantar facia (tendons from heel to toe) by pulling my toes back and forth. I actually suffer from plantar fasciitis on right foot, hence primarily why i do it. But I enjoy stretching both my feet because it ensures their flexibility and function.

Flexibility is actually wholly underrated. You don't do it to bend like Dhalsim, you do it to protect your body and maximize performance by reduced joint and ligament damage so that you can STAY in the gym.

I had this opinion, then I ended up with chronic back pain. It took me nearly two years of physio and doctor visits before I realized I needed to actually learn how to stretch properly. Now I do a 10 minute routine before I go to bed and I have 0 back pain. All I do is a 5 minute deep squat and toe touches for 5 minutes. If you're reading this don't be a fricking moron like me and neglect your stretching. 10 minutes a day could save you from years of chronic back pain. I look back on those two years and think about how much of my life I wasted because "stretching is a meme".

Back pain sucks. Currently also trying to figure out some routine that works for me. Maybe I'll give those a try.

Lifted and ran for years. Was fit, but always felt kinda not really functional or something.
Tried a pretty intense yoga once. Despite years of lifting, I felt incredible afterwards, DOMs where I didn't know I could feel DOMs. My back stopped hurting, my shoulders stopped hurting, I felt like my hips were wrapped in tight rubberbands and they were just now loosening a bit. There was also just this super calming positive mood boost, different from the usual feeling I get post strength training.
Yoga has ended up being one of my favorite activities, I do it once a week. I just stick on a youtube yoga channel and do it in the AM on the weekends.

Stretching and mobility work is fine. Yoga is a portal to the Demonic. You are doing poses that are literally prayers to Hindu gods (Demons)

Father Gabriel Amorth (the real Pope's exorcist) wrote about this in his books. It opens people up to the Demonic. Especially the more spiritual namaste type yoga. Soccer mom crunch fitness class yoga is mildly better but it's still bad.

Most yoga poses were borrowed from Western gymnastics just 100 years ago. It's not that the movements themselves are demonic, it is that doing them within the context of yoga is inherently connecting you to the spritual. If you make the sign of the cross and kneel down before an icon, you are engaging in an act of devotion, even if you are an atheist who is simply doing it because of some alleged mental benefit. It works the same for yoga. The poses are meant to be invokations of various Hindu deities, and they will function this way whether you like it or not. Again, if you do the movements in another context, for instance in Pilates or within a stretching routine, they're perfectly fine. What matters is the intentionality of whether you're doing "yoga".

A lot of shills peddle a lot of useless shit. Be it for yoga, stretching, dieting, lifting, politics, you can always find someone shilling really terrible, useless garbage.

Generally, stretching is very good. You may be surprised to find out a lot of elite athletes stretch. It doesn't even have to be yoga. Yoga practice just encourages mindfulness and breathing practice with the stretching, and some awkward as hell poses. Posture work can also be beneficial if you're posture is fricked, because bad posture can cause pain.

I do yoga once to twice a week, and a general short stretching routine daily. Mobility is good for you, and really doesn't have to take a long time. You don't have to be able to put your legs over your head, or suck your own wiener, but stretching and mobility work will absolutely help improve recovery and prevent injury.

        >Surya namaskara aka sun salutation is the absolute standard stretching routine.

The thing with yoga is that you can do it every day because there's nothing you need to recover from, and you can do it for as long as you want as well. So it's about developing the willingness to make a long term commitment. For that, you need something which:
        >takes almost no time at all
        >stretches the whole body
        >feels good
        >teaches you the principles of yoga
        >makes you feel like you're engaging with a millennia old tradition
For this reason, I recommend [...], the Sun Salutation. It is compact, and when you breathe correctly with each movement, over time the nature and essence of yoga reveals itself. This is to say, the mind-muscle connection improves because you see how the breath is seamlessly integrated with the whole workings of body and mind. The tangible benefit of this is that you develop a certain added rhythm to your workouts which is more effective at coordinating your lifts.

I hope that makes sense. Personally, I only do about 5-10 minutes of yoga a day, but I do it every day and I can't remember the last time I failed to practise. This is much more important than intensity or flexibility when it comes to developing the kind of mastery I'm talking about.

        >For this reason, I recommend , the Sun Salutation.

You could go to yoga classes for a couple weeks and copy the structure from there (and have someone check your form if you wanted)
Though its almost always breathing/focus warm up > sun salutation > whatever poses > rest to cool down. And like with lifts you warm up first, so do a pose for a short bit couple times, then do it for longer and hold it.
