Stronglift 5X5?

I’ve been in and out of the gym for a year and I want to get back seriously
I’m considering running Stronglifts 5X5 + assistance work for 8-12 weeks until I can switch to an intermediate program.
I’m curious what everyone thinks about that? I really want to work on my strength and aesthetics, but my strength foundation is horribly shot after a year of not lifting.
I’m also a bit skinnyfat so I’ll be in a slight deficit.

If your final goal is aesthetics (hypertrophy) just start with it. don't fall for the strength moronation please

It's a beginner program. Everybody is supposed to stop using It at some point

No one needs a beginner program. the only thing that really needs to change from a beginner to someone more experienced is volume and intensity

Do you know of any aesthetics routines for someone who is basically a beginner? And can I run this in a slight calorie deficit to lose some of the fat?

        >you're small and weak?
Hypertrophy routines give you mass faster than powersharting... Unless you're referring to estrogenic bodyfat, then, yes, you'd be correct. Also, nobody gives a single flying frick about your 400lbs deadlift, sperg

          I'm talking about YOU.
YOU are small? Yes? little girl arms and back?
you must be since you think a 400 lb deadlift makes one some sort of fat powerlifter

Build strength for a few months then switch to hypertrophy, that way you'll be doing heavier hypertrophy. Also include a couple accessory lifts after each session, weighted dips, chinups, pull-ups, lateral raises and concentration curls are all good ones to cycle around your rotation depending on the compounds for that session. Make sure you're training calves/abs also twice a week.

Is a small calorie deficit a bad idea?

Calories surplus for strength training, you're going to want to be fueling your body enough so you don't plateau or get burnt out/feel better going into your workouts

got recently back into lifting as well, I do a slightly readjusted version of this; it's going very good so far

    >I really want to work on my strength and aesthetics
It's great for strength, rather poor for aesthetics.
    This is Mehdi from StrongLifts:

It's not a bad physique, but as you can see, it's not what aesthetics lifters are aiming for.

What would a beginner aesthetics program look like?

        >What would a beginner aesthetics program look like?
I've yet to discover an aesthetics program that works natty.

3x10 instead of 5x5 on compounds (except deadlift: 2x5).
highbar squat instead of lowbar, and twice a week instead of 3 times.
bench and ohp, but also triceps isolation and lateral delts.
pullup negatives, but also lat pulldown and curls.
cable row instead of barbell row.
        facepulls and an ab exercise.

      >three big plates
      >one small one
      >400 lbs
Anyways SL is just a worse version of SS
And anyone who tries to 'do hypertrophy' while being too weak to hit 1/2/3/4 will remain forever small

SL is good if you skip benching.
