Stupid things you believed when you were a noob

What were some silly things you believed when you were a noob?

I'll start:
>Training more than 3 times per week would do nothing unless you were an experienced lifter
>Compounds are all you need to look like a bodybuilder and the people doing isolations/machines were idiots.
>Used to believe the number printed on a dumbbell applied to the single dumbbell only rather than the pair.
>cardio kills gains

Lol, forgetting to subtract the weight of the material removed to make the hole in the centre too

wait...are you saying that they dont weight them as the finished product so they are actually significantly different weights despite what they are numbered? bah god wtf

The numbers are more reliable if used to determine the density of the starting material used. If I remember correctly, they start off with a square material that has a standardized weight. From there, they do gnomish trickery to shave of as much metal as possible. In extreme cases, they create air pockets inside of them to make their final weight and density even lower.

Compounds are enough for abs and you don’t have to work them directly.

Why is this one regurgitated on this board so frequently anyway? Is it just the standard 4chin trolling or do people unironically think that squats alone will give you a six pack?

        >squats alone will give you a six pack?

I used to think that squats were plenty enough work for abs, but that getting a six pack started in the kitchen.

Which it does for the most part, then I learned that your abs might look like shit if they're undeveloped, and that doing some rollouts is worth tacking on the end of leg day.

I never do ab work and have visible abs. This one is true, maybe you're just fat.

That I could become ultra fit by force of will alone. If I ignored all pain and sensibility. I would run a half marathon to work and another back. Then cycle 60 miles the day after. I would abuse amphetamines to get through the misery.
Don’t get me wrong, I was super fit and I passed a special operations forces selection process on this basis. But there were people who were faster than me who didn’t work as hard as me.
I unironically needed starting strength to reign me in.

It sounds like you were right, you literally became ultra fit, so much so you were part able to pass a that meant for elites of the military.

The issue is that you were over doing what was required for what you wanted and you adjusted.

Didn't grow that much, I couldn't eat enough to be anything but really skinny, lots of injuries, and I got overtraining syndrome that took about a year to fully recover from. Genuinely stupid to do

That I need upper and lower chest exercises. Biggest chest muscle is the pectoralis major, which is a two head muscle with one part attached to collarbone and the other to the chest bone. Can’t contract one head without contracting the other. Both heads contract whether you Bench Press flat or incline.

You know what's really fucking amazing?

The shit that dyel normies who don't practice an ounce of self-restraint, nor have ever lifted believe.

    >Oh you started lifting weights? You should use an ab-wheel so you can get a six-pack

    >Why are you watching what you eat, anon? Don't you work out? You can eat anything you want as long as you burn the calories later.

    >You shouldn't use machines, anon, I heard they aren't good for building muscle.

    >Isn't creatine dangerous? You shouldn't risk your health to get stronger, anon.

    >All those powders can't be healthy, anon.

    >What do you mean Arnold took steroids, anon? He looked that way because he spent all his free time in the gym. You'd look like him, too if you did it all day.

    >Steroids are illegal, anon, they can't legally give them to *insert unnaturally swole actor here*

And the list goes on, and on

Idk about England specifically but if you're friends with a urologist, he might be willing to prescribe TRT. It won't be the same as a full blast and I doubt he'd be willing to risk his job to prescribe you 500mg/ week. There's also a chance of getting prescribed HCG and HNG if you can get a doctor to say that you're infertile.

But illegally there may or may not be places that you can find gear on the interwebz. Chances are that it won't be pharma-grade

are all you need to look like a bodybuilder and the people doing isolations/machines were idiots.
I had this thinking until now. I dropped most of the compound lifts except OHP. I now do split routines of machines and isolation lifts.

      Anonymous

Pure isolations are also dumb as hell.
Hit your compounds, structure the sets and rep ranges and weights to meet your goals (strength, explosiveness, starting a pump and forcing cloodflow, etc). Then switch to dumbbell work, cables, and machines.
Compounds hit so many auxillary muscles and allow for progressive overload in a way that that most bodybuilders would call you stupid for removing them altogether.

    > if a muscle group "is worked" (theoretically) in a compound, it's gonna grow even though you never fucking feel it ever
    > no need for lots of protein, 50g per day is fine
    > no need for having scheduled planned meals, you can just fucking improvise 4 times per day
    > no need to eat ASAP after you train
    > training a muscle group once a week for 2-3 sets is enough
    > nothing wrong with going over 30 reps, it still works well
    > never lock out
