Tell me what you do instead of CICO for cutting

Not here to argue if CICO works or not, I'm sure it does for some, personally I don't like the shit metabolism it induces. So I've been looking into fasting. Extended works for sure but it gives me harsh insomnia so that's a no go. Intermittent feels like a meme honestly. OMAD fricks with your metabolism the same way CICO does unless you gorge yourself with 2500 cals all at once, so using it to curb insomnia like I thought won't work. Keto is a thing for a reason but malnutrition for an extended period of time doesnt feel right to me idk, open to hear some thoughts though. Right now I'm fasting one day on and the next day I eat maintenance, that's the best compromise I was able to find between all the variables.

    Your metabolism drops by a few 100 calories AT THE ABSOLUTE MOST while cutting. How the frick do you know what your metabolism is like, you mouthbreating moron?

      Your body deals with pure starvation in a different way than being in a calorie deficit. If you have some calories getting in then your body prioritizes using less energy to survive on the available food source. If you have no food your body prioritizes preserving your body so that it can find a food source.

        You have to fast for days before you go into "starvation mode". And your body will not go into "starvation mode" if you have 20+ pounds of bodyfat to feed off of. Not to mention, you've never been in "starvation mode" unless you were in a hospital because there is a serious risk of refeeding syndrome.

        Put the fork down for a couple days so you can recalibrate your appetite fatass. I promise you won't die.

    CICO is a meme that only morons follow. The correct way to do it is to count the calories of food that you prepared yourself so you can make sure you are getting the numbers right.

    Sounds like CICO right? The problem is 90% of people doing CICO only eat processed foods because it's easier to track by just using the number on the label.

    I did CICO for 3 months straight because I thought my wife was either lying or not doing it correctly because she wasn't losing anything. I ate 1800 calories a day for 3 months of just processed foods so I can use the labels as proof of exactly what I was eating so I could rub it in my wife's face.

    What surprised me was I lost nothing. I had plenty to lose, but nothing. My daily maintenance calories had always been 2500 give or take for years.

    Now I'm not saying CICO doesn't work. I'm just saying you can't trust that you're counting the calories right by eating processed foods. I'm not saying they are lying on packaging on purpose, but who actually checks every processed food that is out there?

    For the last 2 years I have been IF, around 2 to 3 thousand calories a day, consumed at night in the span of 4 hours. I only eat non processed foods that I cook and prepare myself. No oils, only butter and lard/tallow. No chicken or eggs unless from MY flock. Very little pork (my kids don't like it), the majority of my protein is from beef or eggs.

    I have lost 45 pounds in the last 2 years. All after the age of 30. My strength is better than ever. All lingering health issues I had been dealing with for years, gone.

    But this is what works for me. Mainly due to the fact I grew up without eating breakfast and lunch due to being poor so I am used to it. Spent my 20s incorporating breakfast and lunch into my diet due to having kids.

    You need to try harder to find what works for YOU. If CICO isn't working, then you are not counting the calories right or relying on a label to do it for you.

    I find alot of the metabolism concerns are solved by still using CICO at higher absolute values.

    So instead of wherever your normal CICO numbers, find a way to do it about 800 calories higher (2300 to 1500 ---> 3100 to 2300). Of course that does mean you have to find the time to burn 800 more calories a day.

    calories in = calories out is a physical fact, not a diet, you fat clowns.
    you can't reliably calculate how much energy you need at maintenance, that depends on way too many variables. the only way to know what your maintenance calories is to see with which diet you are staying the same weight. so the only logical consequence you can draw from "cico" is that if you're fat and want to lose weight you have to EAT LESS AND MOVE MORE.

      The tried and tested method is to estimate your maintenance calories, eat at exactly that level for two weeks and add/subtract based on how much you gained or lost during that time.

      Calories are a measurement of heat energy and not an effective measure of the energy you will derive from food you consume.

      Measurement of calories in food is done by way of exploding them inside a bomb calorimeter. Humans don't processes food this way.

      The second law of thermodynamics DOES NOT APPLY to humans. Humans are an OPEN system. The second law of thermodynamics is discussing closed systems.

      When you eat protein it's not necessarily used for energy because it's going to replenish your amino acid pools but you also have to expend energy to get to that point. So what is the actual energy intake of this protein?

      How much are you shitting? Are you measuring your shit to see how many calories WEREN'T USED FOR ENERGY.

      Not to mention labels are allowed to be wrong by up to 20 percent. Not to mention that your metabolism up and down regulates.

      To think you can adequately measure a 500 calorie deficit is laughable. Don't make the mistake of thinking this means you can't overconsume but the fact is CICO itself is wholly unable to inform you on this.

    If you really don't want to do CICO or fasting, there is another strategy you can use.
    Cook all of your own food. I mean every single thing you put in your goddam mouth. Anything you shove in your gullet has to be prepared using at least 3 BASE ingredients of some sort (ie. chicken breast, blueberries, rice). That way you know exactly what you're putting in your body and the act of having to cook will eliminate snacking.
    Also, no cheating by eating one or two base ingredients thrown together.
    If you literally cannot stop shoving your face, at least make sure you're gorging yourself on quality food.

    For fasting it is easier to not jump in all at once. Start with intermittent fasting then go to OMAD then start your fast. If you are already producing ketones before your fast it will make your fast a lot easier. You could also do keto or carnivore before you start fasting to get the same effect.

    You can eat like a basket of fries 10pc double quarter pounder bacon and honestlt id just get more nuggets than a milkshake or mcflurry but you have to do it like 30-40min before lifting and to go hard like youre bulking. Also try to only do it on leg day or add like 10 sets of cleans and abs or so,e shit.

    Ive been losing weight eating like 3k drinking about 1000 minimum just because of high workload. Aka i missed out on a shitload of gains.
