nobody cared until I benched 225
also easier to shoot down your non lifter friends when they butt in with their moronic >hurr durr i dumbbell press 95 each hand
>Barbell is better for giving shoulder injuries.
I can't do barbell because I don't have a setup for it, but I do think dumbbells can get you into snap city much easier once you get up to a certain weight. I've had more close calls than I'd care to admit with 85+lb dumbbells that I can easily bench for 8-12reps once they're in position, but getting them into position, and to a lesser degree out, doesn't leave much room for error.
barbell: >more triceps due to lateral force transfer >higher pec load due to lower stability demands >can easily load very high weights
dumbbell: >less triceps, more pecs >easier on the shoulder joint due to adjustable rotation angle >can go as deep as you want >higher stability demands, limiting pec load >difficult to get into position, especially with heavy weights
in conclusion: both are similarly effective for increasing pec size.
Dumbbells because I’m DYEL and all the big scary guys are always hanging out 5-10 people around the barbell. Every day. Every hour. Even at 9 AM opening time of the gym or 8 PM closing time. It’s like when one crew disappears a new crew replaces them.
Im not picking one or the other. They are both part of my routine. Sometimes I alternate every week, sometimes I do dumbbells for 3 months, then barbell for 3 months. For hypertrophy, strength and plateau reasons. Dumbbells are easier to perform on a cut, the weight matters less and I get a better stimulus.
Barbell is more fun when on a gaining phase, better for strength and sometimes just fun to lift heavy and impress normies. Nobody has ever looked or said anything to me for using 40-50kg dumbbells but when I bench 3pl8 people unironically take a video and go for fist bumps lol. Im not a powersharter so its basically double my bodyweight and they are just surprised I guess.
I workout in my home gym, alone, at night, after my family goes to bed. I use dumb bells, because, God forbid I make a mistake, I'd rather just break my floor than have my family wake up to find me dead with a broken neck or rib cage.
Barbell, ALWAYS. This is NOT a question...

Barbell because it's a higher number and it's more popular, boosting your confidence and desirability.
barbell when plateau'ed
dumbbell otherwise
dumbbells allow for a better ROM and have a better stimulus:fatigue ratio
barbell allows you to progressive overload easier
No skin in this race, I stopped benching once I hit 3pl8 and realized it was giving me big breasts and not growing my arms at all
>it was giving me big breasts and not growing my arms at all
so what you're saying is the bench press did exactly its function?
I was a grooming victim of powerfats, they told me a big bench would give me big arms and I believed them
>scientifically
>IST
lmao. lol, dare i say

95 dumbbell press is unironically heavy. try it
thanx but I'd rather not
barbell if you lift for outside validation
dumbbell if you lift for result
scientific source: a three headed bismuth european bison told this to me in my dream
barbell because I own a barbell
Dumbbell is better for giving chest size. Barbell is better for giving shoulder injuries.

I, uh, just lift.

barbell for strength, followed by dumbbell for volume

result of case study, n=1
Barbell because it's easier to overload since it's simpler to spot.
Machine press is better. Especially a Nautilus or Hammer Strength press.
the best machine is actually the smith machine at a 15 degree only incline
