Honestly went to take a pic and I look to porous, I’d be embarrassed. But the gist I got when it was explained to me is it promotes the body to push the new layers of skin to the fore, and it dries out and forces shedding of the top layers. This can result in acne ‘surfacing’ that wasn’t there when you first start.

It uses a chemotherapy drug derivative of vitamin A that causes your cell tissues to peel and die.
Doing this causes temporary improvements in skin appearance at the cost of getting skin cancer and autoimmune disease a few years down the road - which are symptoms of vitamin A toxicity.

Similar chemical to what third worlders use to destroy their melanin cells in skin whitening creams - which everyone knows is really toxic, but they still do it anyways.

            this is a good point,
every time the human body sheds skin the newer skin is less perfect. that's how aging works.

if this makes you replace the skin on your face faster, then wouldnt it actually age you faster in the long run?

that's not how it works, that anon above is a moron. Tretinoin does increase the shedding of your epidermis but it results in a thinner epidermis (while thickening the lower dermal layers), not necessarily turning your skin over quicker. It does alter and increase the deposition of collagen in your skin which is one of the primary ways it's believed to work.

This is a good post, a lot of anons here are equating increased regeneration and rejuventation with aging (i.e. your cells careening toward senescence). What tret does is increase and alter the deposition of collagen in your skin, which is more like a building block material and not a cell with DNA and telomeres that get shortened. Regeneration and rejuvenation often work on how our body makes and deposits these kinds of building blocks, which is not the same as increasing cellular division

dude you literally just made this up either maliciously or you are incredibly moronic. Vitamin C is the melanocyte-inhibiting ingredient in skin whitening creams seen in East / SE asia, specifically Ethyl Ascorbic acid. Vitamin A is not carcinogenic, the only skin cancer risk is because tretinoin diminishes the epidermis while thickening the underlying dermal layers, which increases your sensitivity to sun. You really are a dumb b***h

It's the "look 30 when you're 40" cream that has all the studies supporting its use as a collagen producer which smoothes wrinkles and softens skin. Retinol is a lesser, weaker version that's sold en masse as goyslop

Word of caution, use moisturizer religiously with this stuff. It dries the absolute frick out of your skin during the loading phase before you adapt to it.

Well vitamin A signalling is associated with higher probability of developing cancer. Doesn't mean it's a high risk but there was a study where smokers were given beta carotene (vitamin A precursor, retinol and tretinoin are derivatives) and it actually increased the incidence of cancer in the treatment group so something to look into.

My forehead and nose used to be absolutely covered in disgusting acne scar craters. I did 6 sessions of erbium YAG laser scar treatments for about $2,200 total over a period of 6 months (1 treatment per month). But I honestly felt like 3 sessions was enough since I didn't really notice a difference after the 3rd treatment. And while the acne scars on my forehead and nose are still there, I'd say they're 75% less noticeable 2 years later (the effects of the laser treatments supposedly last forever). And so I highly recommend it.

As to the treatments itself and the recovery; the treatment sessions are quite quick. Mine only took about 15 minutes. They give you special goggles to wear, wipe down the areas getting lasered with alcohol pads, and then start zapping you. The pain isn't all that bad. Maybe like 6 to 7/10, but brief. The smell of your flesh being burned is kinda gross. They then slather you up with petroleum jelly and send you home. You basically look and feel like you got a bad sun burn for about a week or so.

There's also different types of lasers. The other major alternative to erbium YAG lasers are CO2 lasers. CO2 lasers are more effective, but my dermatologist doesn't like using them because she thinks the erbium YAG lasers are effective enough with much less risk. With CO2 lasers, the damage to your face is more intense, and so you have to take more precautions like not using retinols or taking multivitamins for months. And there's a higher risk of permanent skin pigmentation. But if your scarring is really bad, then you might want to consider CO2 for the best chance of getting results that you're happy with.

I also take 10mg of collagen powder every day and wear a red light therapy mask every day. I use the red light therapy mask from Dr. Dennis Gross because you only have to wear it for 3 minutes a day. It uses both red and blue light therapy. The red light produces collagen and the blue light kills the bacteria in acne. But you can probably find a cheaper one that works just as good.

I also used to apply a retinol cream every day, but I stopped because I have ultra-sensitive skin, and so my skin simply refuses to get used to retinol. It would always turn bright ride and itch regardless of how little I used or which brand I tried. I also gave my skin several attempts to adapt to it over the course of about 2 years, but it never would.

          Anonymous

From the collagen and mask have you noticed any improvement? Does your skin look younger than your peers?

            Anonymous

I'm not sure if the collagen powder or red light therapy mask are actually making a noticeable difference since I did everything at once. The only way that I know that the collagen powder for sure is doing something is that it made the ridges in my finger nails much more noticeable - especially when I was using an expensive brand called Sparkle. And so if the collagen supplement got into my finger nails, then it's probably getting into my hair and the skin on my face too. And I made the $400-ish plunge for the red light therapy mask after watching a bunch of reviewers on YouTube who used it for at least a year. Their skin definitely looked better. And yes, I look young for my age. I'm nearly 40 but look 30. But I'm also a reclusive shut-in that almost never goes outside. And so I probably protected myself from sun damage as well.

Normal collagen gets digested like any protein, collagen peptides don't get hydrolyzed and they are absorbed by the small intestine directly. It has an effect that is mild in normal people but pretty good with those that have deficiencies or are of old age.

              Anonymous

What about pills of hydrolysed marine collagen with hyaluronic acid and coq10 (but with more collagen than the other two)?

              Anonymous

Pepsin literally hydrolyzes protein into peptides. Is there any evidence that pre-hydrolyzed peptides are treated differently by the body than the digested normal collagen? Obviously there are a variety of fragments produced through digestion, so maybe 0.1% of normal collagen survives compared to 99.9% of the special peptides, but if you only eat 10 mg you get the same amount of surviving peptides as someone who eats 10 g collagen (and you don't get the positive effects of bulk collagen consumption)

Eating collagen does nothing for your collagen in your skin which is produced by you. Eating collagen just breaks down in digestion like any protein, so you might as well just eating protein and vitamin C and other things conducive to collagen production.

Protein has different amino acids, collagen has the right ones to you need to boost collagen production. Of course it is not needed if you get the right amount of the amino acids from other sources like meat.

If you eat complete proteins (most animal proteins) you get all the EAAs and can make any that are missing. Collagen only containd 3 AAs only one of which is essential. You're better off consuming dairy or meat (or whey powder) so your body has more AAs to choose from and can make whatever protein it wants. You can't encourage collagen production by eating collagen.

I should do this. Luckily my acne scars never ended up that bad. There are some vague ones barely noticeable that I don't really care about, but one huge crater on my cheek bone from a massive zit I had at 17 I would like fixed. So you don't have to walk around with bandages on your face or anything after the procedure?

Eating collagen does nothing for your collagen in your skin which is produced by you. Eating collagen just breaks down in digestion like any protein, so you might as well just eating protein and vitamin C and other things conducive to collagen production.

Not all proteins are equivalent. They have different compositions. Saying "Eating collagen just breaks down in digestion like any protein" is like saying cheese and olives are nutritionally equivalent because they both have fatty acids that need to be digested. It's moronic. The fatty acid profiles are different. Just because you're getting all the essential AAs doesn't mean you can't benefit from higher doses of the non-essential ones. Glycine for instance, has time and time again show positive health outcomes at higher doses.

You should actually trying taking a deep dive into the literature on these issues before parroting idiotic meme WebMD meme articles on the first page of Google with literal who doctors trying to 'deboonk' any health opinion not endorsed by mainstream medicine. But I guess I'm just wasting my breath, some people are just born to be conformist I suppose.

It’s better. Newest generation of vit A derivatives. Studies show the effect is the same as tretinoin, but with less irritation of the skin due to more direct mechanism of action.

I'd say you need some good old bone broth in you and do the vaseline. I read sad things about young ladies suffering for a year or more to be left with acne scary. I think you young men need to watch some old TV, you'd like Star Trek. Look at the pox scars and wrinkles on those men, that didn't stop us from liking them. Strong and smart young men don't need the face of a boy to get a woman.

          Anonymous

Smile lines are terrible, they are usually the first thing to show age, before your eyes.
You lose facial fat and bone as you get older, making them show more and more.
There is nothing out there to help with this yet, apart from facial fat transfers and such. Expensive.
Being too lean makes you look older, this is true. Also, if you lose weight too fast and aggressively, you can suffer permanent facial fat loss.
An extreme example would be Bryan Johnson, after becoming lean his face actually looks way older and has more deeper lines than videos of him 2 years previously.

          >are these considered good or bad on a guy (or girl too actually)?

Pretty much every girl has them by mid twenties, around when the wall hits.
It looks unattractive, because youth is more important for women.
Guys can pull off not so bad smiles lines like pic related if they are a Chad, but it does reveal age.

how can I apply it on the skin under my pretty long beard? is mixing it with beard oil and just rubbing it over the beard and massaging it into the skin ok?

      Anonymous

you are wasting the tretinoin if you have a big beard, period. When you consider that the therapeutic dose of tretinoin is about the size of a pea, much of that is gonna get trapped in your beard. If you cut it and mix it with beard oil, most of that is still going on the beard hairs and that is tretinoin your skin will never see. Either shave the beard and use it for 6 months to a year for some nice long term benefits (it causes increased collagen deposition so despite what some morons in here have said it can have some lasting benefits) and then grow the beard back, or keep the beard and use it on the rest of your face only. Frankly tho, unless you have serious acne under your beard there's really no point in getting it into that area anyway. Cosmetically, tretinoin is used to lessen shallow wrinkles and crepe-y skin, all of which mostly happens in the nasolabial area, the eyes, and the forehead. It will not provide meaningful benefits to the skin around the jawline and chin unless you have serious acne to treat there

        Anonymous

        >unless you have serious acne under your beard
no acne, but I suffered for years from severe seborrhoeic dermatitis (or I think this is it) on my face and scalp. within hours of washing my beard, I'd get tons of chunky dandruff, red spots breaking out with itching and burning sensation. ketoconazole shampoo didn't help much, but when I combined it recently with NAC, black seed and oregano oil supplements, among others, and highly concentrated topical oregano, rosemary and tea tree essential oils, it disappeared for the first time after a single ketoconazole shampoo application. the skin under my beard is probably in a lamentable state after constant irritation for so long, so I've been thinking about using tretinoin to regenerate it a bit

Nobody on the internet will tell you the truth. Especially stuff that is intrinsically tied to your self-esteem (i.e. all the astroturfing about how Fin will make your dick fall off. How accutane causes suicides), because astroturfers are trying to psyop everyone into despair.
Ask your doctor. Tell him your concerns. He's seen hundreds if not thousands of people use accutane, and its side effects. He'll tell you if anyone's joints got fricked.
I had no side effects personally, but I am an anonymous gay moron on a mongolian disc golf forum.

I used it in high school, it worked wonders for me but it has a shitload of side effects. I remember I was constantly achy and sore because it dries up all the fluid in your body including the synovial fluid in your joints. If you can suffer through it you won't regret it.

his a moron thats all. you can apply everywhere but near eyes. When your skin is not used to it, it will get irritated around the corners of your mouth but over time it will get used to. You should absolutely apply it there, same with nose

Ok so basically you want to avoid getting too close to eyes, but tret travels under the skin up to 2 inches. So it does affect it, just hopefully not destoying the oil glands

yes, some people also claim they can apply right next to their eyes without issues but the oil glands can get damaged permanently so your choice.

I'm a wizard in my mid thirties, but 90% of women older than 30 aren't sexualy attractive to me in the slightest

Is there anything out there to keep youthful facial fat levels?

be overweight. I know alcoholic chain smoking ugly degenerate fat pigs but their face looks much younger becase they are 5'8 and 280lbs and their face is stretched and fat.
other than that I have no idea

I mean as in facial fat deep in the face, fat pads, etc. teens have very thick facial fat, even skinny kids.

      Bryan gets facial fat transfers.
It’s the only thing that will make him look any younger at his age.
Tret won’t help him if you start at 45.

Adding fat seems to be the only way, tho even that still won’t work for most people.
I wish they would fricking hurry up.
I’m mid twenties and they are still good, but I can see them getting slightly worse over the years.

I'm facial creams and popping like 40 antiaging supplements and you can't do anything to stop me. I'm getting a hair transplant too, once I get my chain smoking, and alcohol and opioid addiction in check, because it'd probably cause the grafts to be rejected

I'm 35 and started recently, like 2 months ago, I have almost no wrinkles, despite my absolutely terrible lifestile and both oral supplements and starting actual skin care is visibly reducing the small ones I already have

          whats your hair looking like

terrible. norwood 3 or 4, but with no balding on the top of my head. started balding as soon as I entered puberty, so it's not that bad, considering. I was only applying minox, very irregularly, e.g. once a day, or every few days for some months or years, then nothing for a few years, so far, but recently added microneedling and mild dht blockers, like saw palmetto

it's not OTC. went to some doctor who didn't want to prescribe fin a few years ago, havent tried again yet, because until recently I had to drink half a bottle of vodka to get enough energy to get off the computer and wash my teeth

I'm starting to learn anything at all about skincare, but I'm currently just using pic related as a moisturizer, combined with a generic 1% retinol cream for the night and an herbal foam as a face wash. I'm also applying dilluted essential oils, e.g. oregano, when I see any signs of dandruff or irritation near my etebrows or facial hair, which they seem to help with very well

It slows down absorbtion of carbs in your gut so your blood sugar stays low-ish throughout the day. You want your HbA1c to be in the low 4s and acarbose supports this.

Tretinoin actually ages your skin faster because it increases cell division and we only have a limited telomere length. Notice there are no examples of effective anti-aging. All you get is thin skin with the troony glow. Let me guess, you're one of those brainless who thinks HGH is the fountain of youth?
