It would give you something to do every day for a couple of years, force you learn cool shit like shooting guns. Make some friends, see some cool shit, and get some life-long benefits like insurance.

Well uhhh, normally you have some philosophy or something mixed in with it to actually give your life purpose.
For me, it was reading the book of five rings and the four agreements. The "warrior" philosophy is pretty much what you're aiming for if you want to feel happy but it gets lost in translation when you're dealing with the average person.
Don't listen to any of them, just follow the way of the warrior and seek perfection. Nothing external will make you happy.
These guys all offer you this material stuff to solve your problems when in reality all of your problems are already solved and you just have to realize it.
i like looking and feeling strong. lifting heavy weights while i grunt like an butthole seems to tap into some primal parts of my brain. i pace around my dumbbells or barbells psyching myself up, tense my body into position while grunting to lift the weight. it's better than sex.
Isn't making your adhd less severe worth it? I also lift for mental health and find the effort is more than worth not being a depressed sack of shit.

I became a lonely, depressed guy during my young adult years, getting a muscular lean body was never going to fix that because I never cared about "exercising my mind"

The gym has done wonders for my insomnia. Before I would get 5 or 6 hours of sleep, maybe 7 on a good day. Now that I exercise regularly, I actually feel sleepy at night and am able to get 8 - 9 hours consistently. This alone has had a massively positive ripple effect in my life
