Yes... In the sense that if the bar you have access weight significantly less than a standard bar, don't go around saying you lift X amount of plates because it would be a lie. For lifting purposes it doesn't matter

  2. 6 months ago
    Anonymous

If you lift the bar with zero plates on it, you're lifting 45lbs.

      Anonymous

I thought the bar was only 25lbs

        Anonymous

Depends on the bar. Most full-size 1" (one inch) bars are in that range (6-8 feet, 7 most common as far as I know). 2" (two inch) Olympic bars are 45

I have never seen a 25 pound bar

because the bar is holding the weight you subtract the weight of the bar from your total

WHy is this even a thing. It has been this way for 40+ yrs.

the bar weighs 45lbs. You add two 45lb plates and you are lifting 135.

    That never changes.

Also your weight factors in so if you weigh 200lbs and lift 145lbs you are actually lifting negative weight, moron.

  11. 6 months ago

bar doesn't have any weight. Lifting 1 bar is the same as lifting 100 bars

  12. 6 months ago
    Anonymous

Actually it doesnt matter what these morons think, you can count the bar or not, in the end it comes down to the fact that every competitive weightlifting sport, either olympic or powerlifting, includes bar weight and this should be the end of it

  13. 6 months ago
    Anonymous

no because you are not lifting the bar. you are lifting the weights attached to the end of the bar. you just simply grab and hold the bar, it doesnt weigh anything its the WEIGHTS that weigh.

  14. 6 months ago
    Anonymous

Yes you count the bar. Just make sure you know what it weighs. When people 1pl8 being 135lbs that's because the standard bar 45lbs, then the two 45lb plates being the additional 90.

  26. 6 months ago

An entire 30 lb dumbbell weighs 30 lbs. It isn't just 30 lbs in the ends with the handle not counted. Why shouldn't you count the 45 lb barbell as weight you're lifting if you're doing a standard barbell movement? You're lifting it so it counts.

Throw the entire one pl8 of barbell and it hits a grandma then on newspaper it's going to say "local twink homosexual threw 135lbs of barbell at poor granny" and not "local twink homosexual threw 90lbs of barbell at poor granny"

Gosh IST is the dumbest board

yeah dont you measure the weight of the bar before every lift? wtf is wrong with you guys. only dyels count the fricking bar. just think for a second. wouldnt the weight of the bar be written on it like every fricking weight ever if it mattered? do you count the 2 lbs bar on a dumbell as well? do you count the weight of the cable and the grip when doing cable rows? ffs i hate newbies. youre not impressing anyone by israeliteing an extra few pounds on your lifts if anything youre setting yourself up for exposing yourself as an dyel larper.

      Anonymous

I take this as a joke, but for the poor unfortunate noobies here: This comment is moronic. You don't have to "measure" what the bar weighs. By default, it's either 45 lbs or 20 kg. Women's bars are 35 lbs or 15 kg. Decent-quality olympic-style (50mm/2" sleeve diameter) barbells usually say what the bar weighs on the end cap. It always says what the bar weighs where you buy it.

This joke isn't very funny, and if it weren't a joke, saying something like this doesn't deserve any argumentation. This is a time waster. Just point and laugh, if it's worth your time.
