There's no way you can be a healthy investment banker right? They sit in front of a computer for 80hrs a week.

Only junior analysts are forced to slave away 16 hours a day. If you survive the first 2-3 years without succumbing to amphetamine/cocaine addiction, suicide or burning out, things tend to get a lot comfier because you can offload a lot of your work onto a fresh batch of junior analysts

investment banking is the biggest cuck shit these days, anybody with a brain is in tech now

Investment banking is still the most cutthroat work environment on earth. There is a much higher chance of success in tech for anyone with an IQ above 110, but the ceiling isn't very high even if you get into FAANG. The only exception would be startups, but the easy VC money boat has sailed and it's not coming back in the forseeable future. In investment banking there is no ceiling and there never will be. The lack of a ceiling attracts the best and brightest from all over the world

To add to this, if you consider yourself an excellent programmer and mathematician, the best use of your spare time would be to work on an algo system. If you're really as good as you think you are, there is an enormous amount of hedge funds who are willing to pay top dollar. A friend of a friend sold a system with a 41% hit-rate (where the losing trades lost an average of 2%, while the winning trades made an average of 13%) to a London based hedge fund for $80M. Beats slaving away at Google for $200k/year

lol, not true at all you fucking retard. you have a way better chance of making huge bank in tech, and especially transitioning into fintech, algo trading.

investment banking is slave work for people who cant do anything better

so not only are you deluded about ib actually being a desirable career, it hasn't been in decades, you also have a thin skin. get the fuck out of here.

I make 7 figures and will inherit 8 figures from my dad... who was in ib and who thankfully prevented me from even considering ib slave work.

When you're a trustfund baby your career path seldom matters. Probably want to keep that part to yourself from now on

                Proof?
Also have you considered the fact that you're in your current position BECAUSE of your father working in IB?

oh I know I got everything from my dad. I'm so fucking lucky. although he wanted me to go into tax consulting instead of becoming a trader, which truthfully is a better industry and I could have started my own business. but the knowledge of the industry is real, ib is a shit job for people who can't make it at anything better. and these days there are a lot better you can do. ib was great once but it isn't anymore. when I meet the new grad hires it's just a fucking joke, they're all overworked slaves and they all burn out and go do jobs worse than just working at any run of the mill tech company anyways. such a tiny proportion stay on and the truth is if they're actually good they would have been better off in any other section of finance. if you want a slave job just do mbb consulting, pe prefers to hire consultants anyways and consulting is actually a growing industry unlike ib which is a smaller pool of high paying jobs every year.

                >ib slave work
it's slave work for the first few years to weed out the people who don't have what it takes. if your father was worked to the bone throughout his career he had to be one of the dumbest motherfuckers in the industry

lol no. all the best hedge funds, algos, vc, good pe prefer to hire from top tech companies or top phd students in technical backgrounds. ib is not prestigious anymore, it's slave work. not only that but it's a tiny field now and the profit days are long over. the best money is all in the exit opportunities... except those opportunities prefer actual quants and not ib slaves.

I'm not even shitting on tech, it's a good line of work to get into but if you think IB isn't highly prestigious then I don't know what to tell you.

They're usually pretty fit, as somebody who is motivated enough to i-bank will also have the discipline needed to squeeze in the morning workout at Equinox or wherever.

However, the high-stress lifestyle and constant rush of cortisol is bad for long term health.

lol, maybe if you get your info from movies. in reality ib slaves tend to be sickly overworked people with bags in their eyes. absolutely no time for fitness.

My sides turned gray by the time I was 31 form the stress. Almost looks like Paulie from Sopranos. Ridiculous considering my fathers hair didn't turn gray until he was 60+

IB is cool but not a really viable path unless you go to an elite target university. if you're some schmuck like me you should get an engineering degree and get into technical sales. if you're good and grind that shit out you can make six figures pretty early on.
